Shoe expert and Sportitude General Manager Josh, cuts up our Top 3 Performing Stability Shoes of 2023 so far. We pride ourselves here at Sportitude on how much we know about running shoes. We know how shoes feel and function but we really wanted to dive deeper into the engineering of footwear. The only way we can truly know this is by dissecting shoes.
The use of the 4D Guidance System and 3D Guidance System in the Gel Kayano 30 and GT 2000 is largely based around the theory of wider surface area = more stable so we wanted to see how Asics has executed this.
The New Balance Vongo v6 has seen a significant change since v5 going from a dual-pelleted support system to now its less intrusive Stability Plate. We wanted to see how wide these honeycomb shapes were in the plate and the angle of the plate as it transitions through the shoe.
The Glycerin GTS 20 and Adrenaline GTS 22 share the exact same support system, Guiderails. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19, released back in 2018, was one of the first shoes on the market to feature a non-dual density support system, and was and has been an incredibly popular shoe model. We wanted to see exactly what engineering features of the Guiderails makes the shoe so popular and comfortable.

Great review, I have recently found your channel and was pleased with the quality of your detail in depth reviews. The cut in half reminded me of what Rose Anvil is doing with Leather shoes, one suggestion is to cut the shoes longitudinal as well?

At last! I've been waiting years for someone to cut stability shoes so I can see what's inside. May I suggest you test the varying foam densities with a durometer? Knowing how firm the stability elements are would be valuable info. Also, I echo the request for a longitudinal cut of the heel section, please.

I’ve watched hours of reviews of stability shoes, always looking for what will best help me (700mi/yr runner, 10min mile avg flat footed, ~230lb runner). This is the best analytical breakdown I’ve seen. THANK YOU!!

I have an abnormally flat foot. Over pronation to the max. I'm 5'11 at 185 but dropped from 245 to 165 and comfy at 185 now. I've tried New Balance 840s, 880s, 1080 v10-13, but now just got the Vongo because I feel I need more stability than comfort if I want to keep up with all these miles. I'll let you know how I feel about them! I usually get in 30 miles a week. (7:45-8:30/mi averages)

Thanks, Today I tried the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23, Asics Kayano 30 & NB 860 V13. For me it was the 860 ahead of the GTS 23 with Kayano 30 last. The 860 was slightly firmer but most stable, The Brooks upper felt great but the front didn't feel as stable while the Kayano felt like it had too much rocker at the front and the stack felt too high. I needed a wide 2E shoe and the colours in the Asics and Brooks were limited and not as nice. As a bonus, the 860 was on special and AU$90-$100 cheaper.

Interesting look inside. As long as you are mangling a few pairs out of curiosity, I'd be interested to see if that "plate" in the Vongo has much rigidity. My understanding is that it may not have much, because it's not quite intended for typical "plated" results.

Any chance you can cut up one or two more stability runners such as the Puma Forever Run Nitro?

Have you had any hot spot issues? I’ve watched videos that the Brooks Glycerine GTS 20 has a bit wider toe box, and the new Kayano 30 was giving people hot spots, at least in the first 100 miles

Glycerin 21 is the ride you must have if you want stability with lots of cushiness.

Thank you for your in depth review and explaining the exposed foams. Where would the Saucony Tempus rank amongst these stability shoes? Have you cut that shoe in half yet?
@jeffersoncrew1545
@jeffersoncrew1545 4 месяца назад
I absolutely love my Saucony Tempus for their responsiveness and energy return. I can shave a full minute of my everyday mileage pace with the Tempus. But I’ve only tested it up to ~5miles. I’m wary of taking it up to 10, 15-miles given it isn’t as designed for those kind of miles

Which one would you recommend that’s best for overpronation, Kayano 30 or Glycerin GTS 21?
@SportitudeAus

Thanks for watching and great question. Both have worked exceptionally well in that department. To split them is a challenge. What shoe are you coming from? And what did you like or not like about it? This would then us an indication to what characteristics you may find more beneficial in K-30 and Glycerin GTS 21. Josh

That makes so much sense why the guiderail on all brooks kills my arch, because it’s underfoot as well. I have pretty low arches and all brooks hurt my arches, same as hoka’s and Nike due to the higher arch. That’s super interesting, but makes a lot of sense. I tend to fit people with Medium arch in brooks. The Kayano 30 tends to fit I higher arch which adds up the the 4D guidance system is silly to me really shouldn’t be a stability shoes more like a stable neutral shoe
@lakkadbagga
@lakkadbagga 5 месяцев назад
They really need to update or soften the guiderail a bit. It hurts the arch + heel area. Also kayano 30 seems a bit equivalent to tempus, but it is definitely good at stability functions.

@@Norah48 hi, and Oo okay I’ve got a couple I’m in the under armor infinite pro breeze at the moment, and I love the adidas supernova 2, the glycerin gts is a great option if you need a wider toe box. The 860v13 would also be a great option

Stupid to cut the shoe in the spot where your foot needs little to no support. cut it lenght wise. Also becasreful with asics gel if it gets wet it will fall apart, how do i know? Just got a $280 refund and bought brooks instead.
@cscoley
@cscoley 21 день назад
If you cut it lengthwise you're not able to see how the support system is set up. Just look at the new balance, if you cut it lengthwise you wouldn't be able to see the two supports. So don't call people stupid when you're not even thinking. And thanks for the information about the Asics that's good to know
