Saudi Arabia is Building a 2km Skyscraper
Last month, Architect's Journal revealed that Foster + Partners is planning a massive project in Saudi Arabia-a skyscraper stretching 2 kilometers into the sky. If they pull it off, this giant would not only tower over the 828-meter Burj Khalifa but also double the height of Saudi Arabia's previous record attempt, the Jeddah Tower. This monumental building is set to rise in the capital city of Jeddah. This announcement raises a big question: is it really possible to build a skyscraper so tall? And if so, how would engineers and architects go about it?

They were going to build a 170 km long "line" across the desert. For budget reasons it has been reduced to ... 2.4 km. If we apply the same ratio to the 2 km high skyscraper, it will be just over 28 metres tall, 10 floors.

This is just a 1 on 1 copy from the B1M. Maybe come up with your own research in the future

I call bull. They'll dig a hole and just end up staring at. How long will it take to go from the basement to the top floor. Also what happens if there's a fire.

I'm ready to bet anyone 1 million dollars that this is never built.

There are so many things that were "impossible" according to "experts" and "engineers"... stuff like travelling above 30kph was supposed to cause death, reusable rockets. "experts" who run to the usual "it's impossible" are not worth paying attention to... they are doers, not visionaries.

They are only doers once they have done something though right?

@@oliverriall And as history has shown, they do.Engineers shouldn't be naysayers. They should be the people that break down walls through innovation, not the guys trying to maintain the status quo.

Engineering makes many things possible but not everything that is possible is also worth doing it! Saudi-Arabia as a very low population density. There is no need and economic benefit to concentrate people into extremely expensive dystopian arcologies in the middle of a desert.
