@@rekzzz14 The backpacker 10/22 looks way better also. If savage was slapping these out for way cheaper than ruger it would be worth it but not around similar price. Also bx25 mags are nice
Love my Savage bolt rifles but they do have a tendency to rust if you don't keep them well coated. Hopefully they do a better job coating these, since backpacker type guns are tough to keep heavily greased when on the move. Thanks for the video! Hadn't even heard of this one before, looks pretty good.
3:45 - I noticed something considerable in these two groups. In the first group, the first shot had noticeably more velocity than consecutive shots. In the 2nd group, the first two shots had higher velocity, while the rest were noticeably slower.
just want to say thank you for providing informative and useful content. I watch your videos and really learn. I get a better understanding of the how and why these are put into production. what the manufacturer was going for and how well they perform. that is all due to your presentation style and knowledge. very much appreciated and hope you continue. ill go over to patreon and donate.
The "running" with a piece in each hand after the takedown is exactly what I would have done in your place. I laughed out loud and said "Excellent, yes." to myself.
My ruger take down would be off by a foot after taking the barrel off and on I called ruger and they told me to tighten the adjustment nut tighter and I did and problem solved.
Interesting. I bought a Savage A22 and at 55 years of age it was my first semi-auto rifle. Very very pleased with the gun. Surprised actually. I hunt small game and the accuracy is more than good enough for that. A good rabbit slayer. A sub-sonic target lr bullet will tumble inside a rabbit's rib cage causing massive damage... 2 ribs in and 4 going out.
100 yds with a takedown -- nothing wrong with that … great video as usual Have you ever tried the Browning .22 automatic takedown ….. bottom ejection loads from the stock….. used it for yrs on a plantation north of Tallahassee Florida
@@shawnschaitel838 what’s your point? I was making an observation. I mentioned nothing about the price. I like Savage and I like this A22 takedown…that said I do wish it was like the Magpul backpacker where the barrel clips into the rear of the stock instead of being two separate pieces.
I love my savage bolt action rimfire.. I have wanted to do a backpacker takedown for the last year and now I may wait longer to see if magpul releases a stock for it
Looks like Savage copied the Magpul Backpacker stock for the Ruger 10/22 - except the forearm doesn't seem to lock into the bottom of the stock. Or does it?
Wish savage would have made the fore end nest into the buttstock like the magpul backpacker… if it came like that from the factory, damn this thing would be 10/10
Great video thanks. Honestly, how can it not be the wind? It affects my golf ball greatly. Appreciate the review thanks... how would this compare to the Ruger 10/22 the newer one... strictly for plinking indoor. Thanks.. The ease of takedown and cleaning is a big deal for me. The Savage sold down here comes with a scope.
I’ve owned both and here’s what I’ll say…the Ruger does have better aftermarket support but the Savage is far easier to disassemble and clean. There are flush and extended mags for both and both were accurate and ran well with multiple 22lr loads. Pick whichever one speaks to you more and you’ll likely enjoy it.
I have several .22s and they don't do much for me but they are good for getting the ladies started. Unfortunately once they shoot one of the larger guns they don't want to go back to the .22.
Magpul works with a variety of companies, for instance you can get a 110 with a Magpul stock directly from Savage. Thompson Center also used a Magpul type stock on their 10/22 clone.
What is the length to pull on it? That's why I don't have a Ruger 10/22 cuz it's too short in the stock for me. I don't feel comfortable with it. And do you have to really put your head down heavy duty to get to the iron sights like they did when they first came out with in the first ones? That's all I got to ask. That's all I got to say about this. Good to see you back on the channel. I hope you enjoyed your turkey
I dont see the real difference to a 10-22 tactical TD. Possibly the trigger is better on this...the Rugers original trigger is like pulling trough oatmeal. :)
Good question, I've been thinking about getting a 64 for a long time. For the price of the 64 compared to a 10/22 takedown it's a lot more value than the 1022's which in addition are known to be more plagued with jams.
@@mariner3485 Nice, that reminds me I wanted the Marlin Papoose ever since I watched NutNFancy do his review on it as his version of the best takedown survival rifle.
I had a 64 for a very short time…very poorly made and it would jam repeatedly if it wasn’t spotlessly clean…like 20-25 rounds and it would start jamming. I very quickly moved on to better firearms. I’ve had several 10/22’s and an A22…they were all good rifles and worked well without issues.
I just wanna ask. Why does it sound so clunky with a suppressor? Or is that just my phone? Sounds like a toy plastic gun hitting plastic to plastic. Lmk plz
I am a little confused which is not unusual. Are you saying that the zero moved a quarter to half inch after you broke down the rifle? is that to be expected every time ?
Yes the zero point can move because the barrel was removed and the scope is mounted to the receiver. That’s why there are scour type mounts for the Ruger, which mount an optic to the barrel, thus not causing a zero shift. The only downside to the Ruger scout style mount is, you’d have to pick an optic that isn’t dependent on eye relief, like a red dot. The shift is minimal…I had a Ruger takedown for years with a red dot on it and it reliably and repeatedly hit targets after disassembly/reassembly.
That stock looks like my magpul X22 backpacker and does it come with it or did you have to get it aftermarket? Second does it use Ruger 10/22 magazines?
The stock is new, as is the rifle, for Savage. It’s the stock that comes with it and it does not take 10/22 mags. The Savage mags are similar, 10-round rotary, but they’re proprietary to Savage. Butler Creek also makes 25-round mags for the A-22.
@22plinkster The green tags what was your bullet drop at 100 yards? I find with my 10/22 green tags drop as much as 6 inches with my model 60 they drop 4.5 inches at 100 yards. Savage has always made good budget rifles, but I think they out did Ruger on the takedowns. Just so you know I'm no fan of take down rifles the bullet shift you had is only one reason to not want one.
I commented on this video 4 days ago. Somebody named Scott Eger said I was selected to win a prize and I needed to contact him. Do you know Scott Eger? Is this some sort of a scam?? I am 68 years old and have never won anything so you can see why I am suspicious. I love your videos. I try to duplicate some of your shots. Never made one yet.
When you are shooting a group you don't chase your previous shots. You just maintain the same point of aim and check the POI and MPI at the end of the string.
nothing wrong with savage, just rather have my ruger take down, it will do the exact same thing the savage does, only difference with mine it's scope only no iron sights
Survival scenarios I believe. Say you go on a week long backpacking trip and get lost or hurt. This backpack rifle will be handy for hunting small game and warding off any predators. Having it in a backpack keeps you from needing to carry it constantly.
Poaching! Hunting where you're not supposed to and don't want to draw attention to yourself. I've got a couple of Little Badgers in 22LR and 22WMR for such purposes. Very useful.
@@scottyV1000 Yes, I agree. I was simply answering the question why it's called and marketed as a backpack gun. I'd personally rather have a 10mm in a chest rig holster for any bear encounters. Also remember, not every state has bears.
Slightly disappointed, not with your video, it was great as always. I was hoping that the forend would click into the notch in the buttstock like the magpul backpacker and i couldn't tell if it could take ruger mags but it doesn't look like it does. Be alot cooler if it did 😎
savage a22 is a piece of crap...i got me a new one...40 rounds through it before the handle on the charging piece broke off,,,several jams prior to that, and is not accurate, and several rounds would not even fire...i wont be buying any more savages...
