It's an absolute "tack hammer" from 100 yards. I shot a one inch hole out of the center of the target with 50 rounds. The heavy barrell makes it a heavy gun in the woods though.
I’m sorry but I call bs on that.. i have one myself and have watched some of the best shooters on RU-vid shoot 100 yard groups with it.. 50 round one inch group at 100 yards is an exaggeration
My friend, I purchased the same rifle several years back except mine is stainless and came with a laminate thumbhole stock... around 5 bills if I remember correctly. Hard to describe how accurate the thing is. BSA Sweet .17 scope...I think.
I hsve a 93R17 GV like the one in the video, with the difference being that mine has the Accu-Trigger. I'm using a Hawke Vantage 3-9X scope on mine, fitted to the rifle with Weaver extra-high Quad-Lock ring mounts. It's a VERY accurate combo. Ammo is a little pricey compared to .22 LR but worth it to me, as the accuracy is so satisfying. It's probably my favorite of all the multitude of rifles I've had over the years, It is tremendous fun to shoot.
Just wanted to say "Hello and God Bless". I just bought a 93R17 FV too. Mine has the black synthetic stock. I took it to the range yesterday to sight-in and test some ammo. It shot Hornady 17gr v-max and CCI 17gr v-max both equally good, very good. All I had at the time was a Simmons 3-9x32 scope so that's what's on it for now, but it works good. What scope did you end up getting?
I bought this exact gun about 4 months ago. Threw a vortex crossfire 2x7 on that I had laying around. I just sighted it in a couple of days ago. I love this gun more than any of my 22s. Fun to shoot and pretty accurate even for a guy that's a little shaky when shooting.
You shoot dimes at 100 yards. Get some good glass on it. Nice gun. Primary Arms scopes have life time warranty and their scopes are nice. Blue locktight those bases. I had one come loose.
I have a Savage 9317HMR in full synthetic and it is one of my favorite rifles. Many of my friends love shooting it as well. Speed and it's flat trajectory make this tack driver a favorite. Thanks to this sweet rifle I have filled my cabinets with several bad to the bone Savage rifles. including the stainless all weather in 7mm Remington Magnum.
I've got the same gun in stainless I started out with a 3x9-40 Vortex Crossfire & hated it terrible eye box & it got dark at high power so I went with a Vortex Viper gen2 & I'm happy with it buy once cry once. I figure it's a 1MOA gun half the time I'm under 1" & the other half I'm a little over 1" at 100 yards for the price a guy can't complain.
I got one of these a few years back at a gun show, bought and mounted a BSA sweet 17 scope. No complaints. Takes out the logo from a bud can at 50.. biggest issue I've had is cleaning gear..
I just picked the exact one up yesterday, and a 22 mag Simon scope with the rings, and found out that the rings don't fit the mount..never seen mounts like that before..either have to replace those with a standard rail mount or something else..kinda sucks..
I bought one when they first came out, 149.00 yes with the bull barrel. Was 189.00 with a scope already on it. But i didn't like the cheap ass scope so i just bought the gun. Wish i would have bought a couple more lol.
Same model I got awhile back. Shot surprisingly accurate. Ran across a deal on a MDT LSS chassis (1/2 price). During swap noticed "BOYD" was embossed in the barrel channel of the original wood stock. Did not expect that. If not familiar with BOYD stocks look them up. They make beautiful laminated stocks in dozens of colors/configurations for about (or less) than you paid for rifle. Anyway back to topic....., put a BSA SWEET 17 scope on it and standard AR pistol grip/buffer tube and an inexpensive buttstock. RIFLE BASIX makes trigger kits for these (~$100, non-Accutrigger model) Totally transformed the rifle. It will hit cornstalks at 150 yards if I can do my part. Of course now it's a $700 rimfire ($900 if you don't count the chassis discount)
I have this same rifle. Had the Marlin XT-17 with the polymer stock and accu-trigger and I like the Savage much better. I put a cheap Amazon 6x24 x50 scope on the Marlin and sold it. I put a Tasco 3x9x40 on the Savage, but haven't shot it yet.
Great rifle I have one my scope was around $50 new in a pawn shop tasco 4 to 9 x50 IL shoots great have shot 250 yards at a one gallon milk jug with red food coloring and water hit 17 out of 20 shots blew the jug apart after the first couple shot but still enough left to shoot at very satisfied
Got a Bushnell Dusk & Dawn 3x9 40 off Amazon for under $90 for my 22-250. Not a bad little scope for the money. Great caliber. May look for one of these now for a knock around gun.
Our local Walmart got 2 of those in 3 days ago and I was fortunate enough to be there when they put them out. I bought the .17 HMR and almost bought the 22 HMR as well but an older gentleman was wanting it so I just bought the one. Wishing now I would have bought both. You will not believe how accurate that thing is, even though the trigger is a little heavy.
@@coolv03 Mine was not adjustable by any normal means but I have, since my original comment, installed a Rifle Basix trigger and it is just right. Very well spent money.
@@coolv03 Yes sir, correct. I have since purchased one that does and gifted it to someone but it has the synthetic stock whereas mine is the wooden one. Good and accurate little rimfires. Take care.
You are wrong. I bought a savage 17hmr years ago from Walmart and was disappointed to find out it didn’t have the accutrigger. Called savage and asked them if I could buy an accutrigger from them and install it. Lady at savage told me it wouldn’t fit. I asked why and why my rifle didn’t come with one. She told me the Walmart rifles are special order rifles from savage and only sold to Walmart in that configuration. She said if I wanted that same rifle with the factory accutrigger then I would have to buy it elsewhere. She said the inside of mine and the others were different enough the trigger wouldn’t fit. I shouldn’t say you are wrong, that’s just what savage told me.
It’s a Walmart Special(order). These are made (for Walmart) to trick people into thinking they are lower priced. But in fact they are not the same rifle sold elsewhere.
In your situation I would probably just take a bill and buy one of the scopes at Walmart and call it good. Now if you do not mind I have a question. I looked at the same rifle with a different stock at one of my favorite local gun stores and to me the magazine release felt like if I was not careful it was going to break. Does yours feel as cheaply made? Keep in mind this was like six or seven months ago so they might be a little different. I was looking at several different firearms at the time and despite being a wood and metal kind of guy I ended up going with a Ruger Precision Rimfire. To be candid I got it because it seemed so much better made, I love the features and there is just something about the way it looks but I still want the Savage. So I would like to hear your thoughts.
Mike thanks for the input. I actually had a Sig Romeo 5 lying around and threw it in just so we could take it out. It was dead on. The mag release does just feel like a piece of spring steel but does not feel like its going to break. It is a "budget" model but I really like it and my son has a blast shooting it.
I have killed many a wild hogs with mine, I put a Vortex 3x9x40 with bdc, I don't suggest using it for squirrel hunting because the squirrel will explode when it hits it! I manly use mine for hogs, coyotes, armadillos. I've taken 200# hogs at 230 yards, and coyotes out to a little over 300 yards, no problem.
I have a different model of the same .17HMR the Savage 93R17 Minimalist. I have Weaver 47330 medium 4 bolt rings with a used Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 Nikoplex reticle. Just a straight crosshair scope, no tic marks or circles.. 50 to 150yds, it's good for 1/2" groups, with an occasional flyer, usually no more than an inch out. Sighted in @100yds on the bench.
Sounds like a great setup. I have that scope on my 10/22 but I am not seeing any Nikon scopes on the market anymore. I read that they got out of the firearm industry.
@@shootersforchrist yeah, Nikon kinda dropped our market, but I still see a good deal on eBay once in a while. Great channel! I was into mtb for years, then Parkinson's disease wrecked my legs. I still ride, road and gravel, but I can't move around over the seat like before. I've thought a lot about starting a channel like yours, real world folks doing real life. I hope you have great success with it! I'll be watching :)
I have it. I have a 4x16x42 scope for about 90 bucks. It shoots well. One thing. The magazines be prepared if you havent already had the issue is that the wings will spread out and not hold the ammo. Had to replace two of those box magazines already. Wish it had the rotary mags like the B17 and the A17.
I have 2 of these and the only problem I’ve found is after firing a 1000 rounds or so it started to misfire occasionally. Then it started happening more frequently and progressed to the point of not firing at all. I had to send it back to the factory to get repaired and they offered no explanation as to what caused it.
@@shootersforchrist Yes. It works flawlessly again. I would still like to know what caused it though so if it were to happen again I could order parts and fix it myself. Personally I think the Savage rifles are probably the most accurate straight out of the box. Not like a Ruger which by the time you add all the aftermarket mods it’s not even the same gun you bought.
Richard walker, check around on the Sweet 17, if you haven't bought one yet. The neoprene on those scopes has been known to melt. I'm not talking about from heat either. Mine just dissolved over time. Checked into it, and found I wasn't the only one. BSA was a shit company to deal with (at the time) to boot.
@@shootersforchrist I remember buying one of my handguns at a hardware store in Des Moines, Iowa many years ago. Shotgun at a Montgomery Wards. Those days are gone. Living in New Mexico now and just trying to keep my firearms from being stolen.
I've owned the 93R17 glv (left) for several years, love it. I see the video is 7 months old. I would have suggested the BSA Sweet 17, would be curious to hear which scope you went with.
I bought one of these as a package years ago, and you can drive tacks with it. I’ve had a couple of different scopes on it, and it shoots the same with all. I found a Picatinny rail for it (that took some finding, let me tell you), threw on some half decent rings, and I’ve just put a Nikko Sterling Panamax 3-9 X 40 on it, and I don’t envision any issues. Cheers from Down Under.
Did that Picatinny rail come from Evolution Gun Works ? I noticed they offer them and say for all model 93 Savage rifles. I used the bases that came with my gun and was barely able to just get my perfect eye relief with the rear scope mount almost up against the turret housing so I will for sure be getting a rail.
@@ArkansasBadBoy I originally put a Weaver rail on it, bit I changed that to a Picatinny rail so I could mount a Thermal on it. The Picatinny rail I got did come from Evolution Gun Works (EGW). Had to buy it online; shops had none anywhere.
