I met a wealthy widowed Chinese lady over 30 years ago from Florida. She was a vendor for the company I worked for at the time. We developed a friendship and she told me when her husband asked her what she wanted for birthdays anniversaries and all mile stones in her life she would ask him to buy her some land which she was eyeing in Florida. Her girlfriends would laugh at her because their husbands bought them jewelry and flowers. The land was less expensive than the jewelry. Well, her friends also became widowed too and their social security couldn't cover their living expenses. She accumulated so much property over time and sold some to developers. She was a millionaire when I knew her. I never take jewelry or flowers as gift from my boo but ask for shares of stock in certain companies. I'll rather look at a portfolio than flowers any day.

Living in China 🇨🇳 changed my life I came back to America less materialistic but don’t get me wrong I worked with many who loved all the top name brands . However the common Chinese person is not one to spend lots of money . I now cook at home and wake at 5 am like I’m in China . Simple living is best .
As someone who saves 50-60% a month and invests it it feels AMAZING being able to see how much money I have saved up all together and knowing I could take a couple years off with no work and I’d still be able to cover all my expenses

@@darsweet02 I was embarrassed, that, it was just me, anxious about investing my savings. I tried a couple of times with different Brokers; but, each time I've lost money. So, now, I save my money in an annuity, CDs, a guaranteed return Thrift Saving Plan (TSP) at work and a couple of small multifamily rental properties (5 units + my apartment = 6 total). I'll be maxed out for Social Security payments in 2 years. And, I'm seriously considering dollar cost averaging my savings into a Vanguard and/or Fidelity Index Fund, once the stock market Settles into life, with the world at War with Russia and probably China. By then, I'm sure they'll be many fires sale opportunities, if any of us are still around. I know it seems like a lot but after expenses, it's still scary.
Badkhrncorp is young. Holding almost anything mentioned here is a good hold because the VHS or Beta will only show in time. I want to hold them early. Its sad that most dont think of these things as good future holds instead of being out of the market and bottom hunting. A handful of years ago, I heard of the $5 challenge: every time you get a $5 bill, put it aside. It added up fairly quickly. That strategy actually paid for my honeymoon!
I bought a Coach purse for about $200 about 20 years also and I still use it today. Since I have not needed to buy a new bag the cost is fabulously cheap!
It depends on the product and the person. Some people will buy a quality product, then decide they need a different quality product for this occasion or that outfit. I have a similar mindset to yours, just in a different direction. I have an iPad, I got it new in 2005. I have the new iPhone because I got it for free when my phone provider was bought out and I didn’t like the new provider. 🙏
Here's how I developed a savings mentality. Neither my husband or I had grown up with parents who had a savings mentality....we didn't witness it and it wasn't taught to us. Plus we had 4 kids when we were young and were on one income. So every dime was always spent. And a poverty mentality tells you you can't save because there's not enough. So I had to play games with myself. So saving $100 a week....wow that was wayyyyty too much to start out. I started very small and convince myself I would never notice. First thing, stop swiping cards. Get out cash for groceries and anything else that's not a set monthly bill. So 1st trick. I stopped spending coins. I got a jar and told myself I just wanted to fill it up. It became a game and fun to get it full. Then I found out I could squeeze almost $100 into a pint jar if I only put quarters and dimes in it and put pennies and nickles in a different jar (which would make up the difference and equal $100 saved) That led to wanting to fill as many pint jars as I could with change. I could visualize that each one was $100. It wasn't too long until I felt it was taking too long to fill a jar and I wanted to Amp things up. So I put a small envelope in my purse and marked it $5 bills and challenged myself not to spend any $5 bills I received as change until I got $100 in the envelope. I went on to do this with 10's and 1's multiple times. One of the secrets though too is at the same time I was also paying down debt. Even if I had to consolidate or re-fi for lower interest.... whatever it took to put more cash into my monthly budget. This also became a game and I couldn't wait to get rid of all those monthly payments that were robbing my budget each month. The more debt paid and less going out the door. The more I was able to enjoy saving and not even feel that I was sacrificing anything. Finally I worked my way up to having paycheck money directly deposited to savings. Because my mentality changed I began to enjoy it. But for me ....my mentality about an intangible bank account number didn't work at first. I had to actually physically see the cash mounting up.
So I'm kinda doing these principles now. It all started when I was in my early 20's after struggles because I left home when I was 16. I was very materialistic person, had to have brand new everyrhing and keep up with everyone else. Until one day I went homeless. I had to make smarter decisions to better my situation and never put my self in bad situations. I had to learn to make sacrifices, for the greater of the good. Now 15 years later l I find myself getting no where in life. I haven't accomplished all my goal. I had to make a choice to either all ways be broke and Live the good life or I can make a sacrifice to have a better future for my kids. I chose to leave my apartment, get a member ship at planet fitness for showers and to get a good work out in every now and then. I also eat subway every day to stay away from fast foods.. But, because I became so custom to just live with out anything and not have any want. I'm able to save over a 1000 a week from my job and work as many hours as I want. So I basically live a work. I have more money in the bank now than I ever had in my entire life. This took alot discipline and sacrifice. After I save 100k I'm going to start flipping houses and start a business. If i can live with these principles, so can anyone.
I would give up my home if I were single but there are 3 of us! I've thought about it on many occasions we don't use half the stuff in the house! Couldn't eat Subway everyday though LOL

You need to find a new place to live, maybe even a different state! There a plenty of places that don't cost 50-60% of your income, even if your income in that place is lower. People move here to West KY and West TN and are amazed at what the place they sold in CA will buy here!
When I was working and got paid minimal I would take $20-$40 out of my account and set it aside when I could. Pay bills and essentials with the rest. I’d go to Costco or sams and buy in bulk so that I didn’t have to buy anything for awhile. Bought a “cash car” Honda and drove it to work. Buy work clothes from Walmart or goodwill when I needed. The only luxury goods I really buy are quality bags and shoes and utilize them forever. Got apple products but I make them work for me. Sell or give away items when I don’t use or need them anymore. Worked for me. I need to get back on it.
At 40% savings. Was difficult when started but now just gets more exciting as we are able to save and grow. For many years I was the one with the oldest car (only purchased cash cars) and made many other sacrifices. It is definitely paying off this year. Expenses are paid for the year and my favorite store is still the Goodwill.

If you're not an entrepreneur get a City, State or federal Government job ! Government jobs automatically setup your potential Pension checks for your retirement when you reach 64. If u survive the 6-13 month trial period you get locked into the Union. Unions have the BEST healthcare plans since they buy in bulk. Remember even as an entrepreneur you can lose everything if u or your partner has a serious health problem, not so with union medical health coverage. Best of all is you have a predictable biweekly check which allows you better budget and save. Hold off on the 6k vacations until you reach your 40's, you'll appreciate them more and it's bulk cash u can save towards that house. Goal should be a 730 credit score minimum b4 you apply for that home. Note that the teachers, caseworkers, government employees lost ZERO pay for these past 2.3 years of lockdowns. Hi - I started the 30 day challenge on 10/02. I'm an eBay reseller and felt I had too much inventory. So I decided to stop sourcing for the month of October, and then I decided to not buy anything for 30 days. I'm doing good. Thanks
They need to bring back card night. People did this in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. Just have some friends over, light snacks, drinks, play cards or whatever. Switch it up every couple of weeks or month.

I'm glad I don't have to do my shopping at thrift stores anymore. I did it for years growing up, but now I buy my clothes on sale, at a good price, and get good use out of them.
I'm a grandma and I wish people would learn a simple thing- figure out your average pay, whether you work one job or three. Then figure out how to live on HALF that, whether it's by having roommates, or whatever. Then just stick to that budget, regardless of if your income increases. You will be shocked. And never underestimate the saving power of a live in job, even just for a year or two, or seasonally like ski or fishing resorts. I am so sad at how much money my son just wastes. The car thing though- I bought my truck new in 2004, ordered it with no upgrades, so less to go wrong. It was zero percent financing for 5 years. I used credit card points for the down payment. I made a living as a gardener with it for over 10 years, and wrote it off on my taxes. Still driving it now that I am 'retired'. It costs more for gas than a small car but I still need a truck for some things and overall it's still cheaper.
This is smart. The way I look at it, is if you spend half of your earnings (this assumes you can counteract inflation, which you generallt can if you’re wise), every month you have to work is a month you don’t.

My Mother got debt free by working a job 40 hrs a week and then sitting with elderly people at night and then she left home on the Friday night and went to a live-in sitting job until time to go to her regular job on Monday morning. Her utilities were the min. required charge and she started at 59 and did this for 2 years. Then she worked her regular job and did sitting as a side gig. She made $800 a weekend for 2 years and at 84 she still works.
As a financial planner, these are good ideas. I'd advise everyone to get a free needs assessment done. Every financial advisor does this. Most, if they are good at their business, do it complimentary.
We went to a financial advisor when we were newly married with 1 - 2 children. He couldn't believe how reasonable our budget was - on a very limited salary. However - he didn't open our eyes to possibilities that might better our situation and what we could strive for savings wise. We figured that out eventually on our own but I would have appreciated the encouragement and information prior to the internet age.

Buses takes at least 1hr 30 mins to take you wherever you wanna go. So I use that time to learn while in transit. Audiobooks and podcasts. Reply to you emails. So you are not really losing time in this case.

Love your energy. I was addicted to eating out. Wasted so much money when I was younger. Cooking at home from scratch really saves money. You should also get an Instant Pot pressure cooker for fast good meals.

Great advice With the way the government is spending money these days we really need to save for the future. Noone wants to have to work at 75 years old.
I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.
The pandemic came and taught everyone the importance of having multiple stream of income, unfortunately having a nice paying job doesn't mean you are financial secured anymore. So we all need to put in an extra-income earning chance, like investments.
4 years ago I was living paycheck to paycheck, working 40hrs a week, High school drop out with a GED. 489 credit score with an eviction, Repo and collections. Got into real estate but ran into unqualified clients that didn't qualify for a mortgage because of their credit I found this home based business in here on RU-vid and it just made sense.
This opportunity has changed my life ❤️ My credit score increased tremendously, I become a multiple 6 figure earner, I'm able to finicially support my family. I now have the time to and luxurious life I've Dreamt of. All thanks to Mrs Kathy. God will surely bless her abundantly. Now I advice others to go into crypto trading. Great video! However, I’m not really agree about a few things: A. You can’t buy underwear for $15. Literally impossible. A pack of 6 boxers at Walmart / target cost about $20-$25. And buying in “second hand” stores, or good will is often as expensive and sometimes more than buying new in Walmart. B. Buying old car for $1000-$5000 is such a poor man mentality. Sure, you’ll buy cheap, but then you’ll waste SO MUCH MORE on fixing your car every few weeks. The best thing to do is to buy pre used car with about 10-20,000 miles. Someone else took all the big depreciation, but you still get to drive a relatively new car with no issues. Now, there’s nothing wrong with car payments! As long as you have good credit, you can get almost any car for low interest. I prefer to pay 15,200 with low monthly payments, than come up with 15,000 cash up front. C. No going out with friends? Not having fun?? What’s the point of this? You live your entire life like A DOG, so maybe one day when you’re 65 you can enjoy life? That’s ridiculous. D. I agree about not buying luxury. It’s waste of time.
This is more in tune with how I live my life. One can't forsake living life for security, though, it's good to balance both. Finding your own balance is key. Good advice in this video for sure, but is not applicable to all.
The car thing is incorrect I bought a 2009 Dodge Charger. For 3800 and that car runs good was in good condition it’s not the car it’s who and where u buy it from. U have to take a mechanic with u make sure u making a right investment
Before the pandemic, I ate out 8-10 times a week. I retired early and now I eat out 2 or 3 times a month if that. Before I didn't think about how much I was spending on take-out now I feel the sting when I pay. When I cook, I do a double batch and freeze the extra in single-serve size containers . Then when I don't want to cook I just go to the freezer and take out a meal. I had always been very frugal with my money with the exception of the eating out. Having 401k taken out automatically is good because you never see it so you don't miss it. I actually like to thrift shop clothes you find a variety of clothes that you don't find in a regular store. You do have to be careful though sometimes the thrift stores are charging more than what you can get items new.
A great book is “The Millionaire Next Door”. Living w/in our means is the best way to go. This is my “ no buy” year = nothing new. Turns out I don’t miss spending at all. Make all my meals at home. 👍 Go out to lunch 1/week. Easy.

I learned the lesson of buying cheap and reliable cars. At one point we bought a BMW - an older model that was well taken care of by our neighbor. We soon learned that we didn't have the necessary skills to do the maintenance on this car and that every part and repair was priced like a new BMW car part would cost. We sold this car within the year and it was definitely a learning experience. More expensive models of anything - fridges, washing machines - cost more to repair (more electronic and expensive parts to replace). Keep it simple - buy the most simple thing to get the job done.
I live a minimal lifestyle and was able to pay off my debt. I live in California which is super expensive to live But i can live comfortably because I don’t have a lot bills.
I agree with the ads, that's why I would still pay for ad-free youtube since I am always here for more financial wisdom, and accidentally watching commercials is just reprogramming my mind into thinking that I need all those things they show. For me, it's totally worth the $2 per month subscription.
As a young art lover I got tired of hearing myself say, "Oh, I want that! But I can't afford it." I started putting a little money ($20) into a special savings account for art each paycheck so I didn't have to worry "groceries or art?" Then I started doing the same thing with a special savings account ($20 per ck) just for travel. I can splurge on a nice weekend or save a few years for a real vacation without worrying about credit card debt.
Get a second job and call that income your husband's money. Save that 2nd income and invest it. If you have little children it might not be possible to work 2nd job.
I wanna add regarding used beater cars. Granny cars can be hidden gems. One owner, never driven hard. They may be bigger or not have the best mileage but look up Lincoln town cars and Buick park avenues for example. And whatever car you prefer research how easy it is to work on.
I’m on disability and save 25% of what I receive. I still buy stuff, so I could do better. Today I found out someone I care about got flooded out and lost everything in the last hurricane. I can help her out. That’s a good feeling to be generous when you want to be

All this advice is great, especially for those who don't have much money and need to accumulate it for investment and savings. But if you're successful at doing this over time, there does come a point where you should not be so extreme and improve your quality of life. Because if you don't, you will turn your mind into one of a poverty mindset. I know people who are exactly like this and have well over $1MM in the bank, who will die with it there and never enjoyed it. That's no way to live either. And yes, they will inherit it to their kids, but the kids are the same way. They live very modestly and not very happy because they have just become greedy. There must be a balance once you have financial security.
I wish I had your knowledge and wisdom when I was your age. This is much needed info for the now very difficult times. Many goodwill clothes are like new. Even new clothes, washed only once then become the goodwill version. I have bought designer clothes at thrift stores, better than some of the disposable clothes sold today at retailers to encourage more consumerism. i knew a girl named wang too this was like 15 years ago. I tried to get her to move to the USA but she was too afraid to be apart from her family. Most Chinese are close with their families. If they are not married they stay with their parents. You can save HUGE money living with your family as more incomes make a mortgage easier to pay. Imagine a 4 bedroom townhouse in a suburb (the one i live in is valued at 80-90k.) If You have the parents in 1 room and the other 3 rooms with contributing factions a $1200 a month mortgage is easily splitttable at $300 per room If the meals are cooked together the savings there is also big. A $10 roast bought on sale can easily feed 5 or 6 people. Im comparing the one I had for dinner tonight 3 people ate and at least 3 pounds of food was put away as leftovers. So instead of our $10 roast with potatoes and carrots feeding 5-6 people once its feeding 3 people for 2 days. Since our mortgage is already paid off there is only property taxes and home maintenance. This is how good things can be when you don't follow the trends. Moving out at 18 before you are established in the world is the worst idea that most people have. They want the freedom of not having any rules of their parents but they don't realize they are not getting freedom. They are just getting rules of their landlord or HOA or whatever else which is a lot less forgiving than family. So be smart stay home and contribute there. Maybe even more than your share because no matter what you will be able to save real money.

It does not matter the make and model - Only buy a beater car if you know how to work on it. When you buy a beater expect to pay as much as you spent on the car or more to make it reliable.
Every single time I've ever heard about people saving extreme amounts of money, the underlying truth is that they either make a shitload of money, or they depend on everyone around them to subsidize their lifestyle.
That’s not true. My husband and I both worked mid level state jobs but saved probably 50 percent of our income. We were able to do this by waiting for 10 years to have children and living below our means. Neither one of us buys things to impress others and we are both fairly thrifty (use coupons, look for discounts, etc.). We don’t compromise when it comes to health or safety but other than that we are pretty frugal. We socked away saved large amounts of money into investments. My husband was able to retire at age 51 and I have worked part time only since I was 40. We travel internationally, my husband spends his days golfing, fishing or doing whatever he wants. We fully funded our sons college education in engineering. We are multimillionaires but nobody would guess it. I drive a van with 270,000 miles on it still lol. I don’t care as long as it gets me from point A to point B safely and comfortably lol.

@@williambergmann641 not if they make the same decisions and sacrifices. My son and his girlfriend make really good money (he is an engineer) but they live paycheck to paycheck. Spend every penny they bring in. Don’t have enough money saved for car repairs, vet visits, medical emergencies, etc. This is, sadly, much more common than the thrifty way we lived. Maybe they will change their ways or maybe they will have to work their entire lives or maybe they will live in poverty on social security, complaining how it’s not enough to live on.

I spent more than a decade just barely not homeless, working as many jobs as I could find, because places wouldn't let you work full time, and if they did, it was $7.25 an hour. Even having each other is a huge resource a lot of people do not have. I didn't meet my wife until I was 28; Our first year together, we made $34,000 combined.
Have saved 10% for decades which I have never touched, this is my wealth tree. Emergency fund, holidays and everything else from the 90% - it has been easy and allowed me to enjoy life without feeling deprived
The principle point in “ The Richest Man in Babylon”. My mother gave it to me when I was 20 and in a marriage with debt I didn’t know about before I married my( now ex) husband. In less than a year, debt paid savings started. People can’t believe how 10% off the top saved is NEVER even missed! And adds up . Stir in compound interest and time and just that alone is amazing!
I bought a weeks worth of outfits 50 cents a piece. It’s now been since 2018 4 years.. I only buy pants 👖 underwear and socks 🧦. I take really good care of my shoes as well. That I spend on quality shoes. People compliment me on my outfits all the time. $15 pants 50 cent top. 🤷🏻♀️ I only invest in skincare 🧴 cold cream as a make up remover and 36 hour eyeliner, 24 hour lipstick SPF BB cream and I’m solid. That’s that. I don’t need makeup but I use minimal to enhance my appearance show I care about myself. My transportation is good on gas, cute, and very affordable. I already drove the luxury vehicle and spent a fortune on makeup before it’s not worth it for people I don’t like anyway lol.

It's really tough to save these days. I barely make $300 per week doing delivery work. I will make more once it's not as hot out cuz then I can do amazonflex and also grocery orders. It's really tough to save these days with these prices...i've been thrift shopping for years now for most items...thanks for the tips.
You can save. Save $1 in the envelope. Once a month or so deposit it. Simple. I’m jobless at the moment, but still make it my business to save regardless. Not as much like I used to, but I do save leftover change, $1, $5. It works.
Asian people period are good at saving money I use to work with some asian men from Burma and Vietnam , at a auto repair shop and they never ain’t out at lunch time they always bring their lunch to work from home they thought me a lot and now I don’t buy lunch at work I either bring my home made lunch or I just don’t eat lunch only until I get home then I eat my dinner then dudes always had money
My adult son and his wife live very near me. They both work. I recently had made some jam and bread (as I do) and I took some to them. A week later they still had half the bread left and I asked what they use for sandwiches. They BUY their lunches, EVERY DAY. Blows my mind. I grow all my veg, pick berries and so on, and never buy processed food. I always have enough frozen veg for umpteen families but they never use any, they say it's too much bother. And every time their car breaks I am expected to bail them out as they have no money....
Tommy your advice is spot on ..I listen to guys like Dave Ramsey , Robert kiyosaki , your on the list of one I listen i try to taking golden nuggets away from stuff you say and other likes i mentioned ...., I type in on RU-vid how to be more frugal or saving more or something ECT and you Popped...Im able to save 2-3,000 a year from taking your advice .....things like on credit card balance transfer ,to things like cutting my own hair to save money......i appreciate man ....FROM louisville , Kentucky ....keep the good work coming
I was doing well....Used shoes...check, Used clothes most of the time....check, but then you got to Mazda, Honda, Toyota........I have all three out in the driveway.....I hit the ball out of the park on that one. tHanks for the fun video (RU-vid sent me here)
