I hope those of you who watched found these little tips helpful! As well as some insight to the various products I have used to steadily improve the "Reptile Room" as a whole. We love the animals we keep, however at the same time we use a lot of energy to keep them happy and healthy! So why not try and help the Earth out a little and try and reduce electricity usage?

Good video, thank you for the halogen bulb tip. I just got a pygmy bearded dragon and I think we're having trouble keeping the hot spot hot enough. Not sure where the thermometer should be for best measurement. He's just getting out of brumation and moving around. Thermometer about 4-5" below the lights shows usually 88-92 F during the day with a heat lamp + UV and run an infrared at night that keeps it around 75 F. Online says it should be 100+? 40 Gallon tank, one lizard.

I'm interested in how to keep the heat in the tank while also providing airflow.

Sorry its three months later but what i do is i have a 120 gallon for my beardie and i have 1 75watt lights and a 75 watt deep heat projector on opposite sides plus 2 uvb lights, there are a couple of basking spot with diff heat temps and i get that by making the basking spots vary in height in the enclosure, and for sake of ventilation i jus dont put anything else on top of the enclosure, so i mean if you di sum simular i bet you be chillin, if its not hot enough in a spot get a high watt light or multiple lights of same wattage to spread more heat

Great video! I have a few questions. Would a mercury vapor bulb be better than having separate heat and uvb fixtures? Do the halogen bulbs you buy from hardware stores still reduce the amount of electricity? Thanks.

I’ve heard both opinions on MVB’s and to be honest. I say it comes down to personal preference. I’ve been keeping Zilla on a Powersun her whole life, same time my Chinese Water Dragons have always been kept with heat and UVB coming from two different bulbs. In terms of halogens from a supermarket. Yes! It’ll help reduce some of that energy costs you’d encounter with standard incandescent heat bulbs. If you have any further questions. Feel free to reply to this comment thread or send me a message through the Instagram and Facebook pages listed in the description!

@@AlexsAgamids Thank you, I'm most likely going to be trying out the halogen bulbs for some of my reptiles to see how they work. Will you be at Sewer Fest on April 28?
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
Sadly I will not be making it to SEWER Fest again... I’ve started working on Sundays so alas being able to make it up to that show is rather difficult :( I will be at the NARBC Tinley Park show though! So if you see me there. Don’t hesitate to say Hi!

My ball hasn’t eaten in about 4 months, young adult and is pretty healthy from what I’ve seen. All her tempitures and humidity leveles are measured each day and I make sure that there proper. I don’t know if it because it’s the winter and she doesn’t want to eat in the spring, maybe you would now?
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
You say “her”. Are you sure your ball python is a female? Males are well known for going off feed in the cooler months of the year. If you didn’t know the sex of your ball python when you got it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is in fact a male. Hence why he wouldn’t be eating.

Snakedude1814 indeed, he wasn’t probed😂 I figured it’s most likely the winter months effecting the suituation thank you

Ok so i have a question! Ive never seen it even pop up. But i was originally interested in getting a bearded dragon or a crested gecko. but after thinking about it... that bearded dragons gatta be heated up pretty hot and and i want to know if theres a better way to cut down on cost because it seems like just having 1 bearded dragon is between 300-400$ a year. That and even if the cost can be lowered im considering whether or not i should have one because the main room i would have the animal in is where i play videogames, normally i wouldnt care, exvept ps4 pros run very hot. So hot infact that even during the winter time it gets too hot if the door is closed. Plus we have a fire place downstairs and often time that makes things hot as well far too hot for me to be comfortable alot of the time. Should i worry about this? Because reptiles seem like something i want to invest in, but even getting something easy to take care of like a bearded dragon or crested gecko is kinda starting to stress me out with trying to figure out how to get the tempurature better for everybody. Myself and lizard included.
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
In terms of the bearded dragon, if your PS4 system heats up the room. Using a Zilla 50 watt Halogen with UVB would suffice given that the room can stay warm enough to provide an adequate temperature gradient. If you truly have your heart set on a beardie. Go for it cause they like it warm. And placing it in a warm room will help reduce the overall wattage of bulbs needed to heat the little guy!

@@AlexsAgamids hmmmm i guess that basking bulbs is now what im most concerned with.... because 12 hours is a long time to leave any light on... dies it cost as much as im expecting? Anyway to cut the cost? Upfront costs are more apealing than long term bills... guess thats why im considering a chrested gecko...
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
With the Halogen bulbs. They’re a bit pricier upfront. But the bulbs themselves last over a year and up to two years. That combined with their efficiency truly makes them save money in the long run in terms of electric bills.

@@AlexsAgamids cool. I guess i shouldnt be so worried. But all the you tube channels show how passionate people are about their animals, id hate to be "that guy" if im ganna take care of a creature im going to do my best, according to what my wallet allows anyway.... And im kinda worried about doing things right, especially after seeing a video of MBD. That was terrifying. It made me realize that if im going to take care of a reptile i need to go bioactive if i can, because even if its a beginner reptile... still seems way harder than like... a dog...

Have you tried giving your Chinese Water Dragon any fruits or vegetables if you have what kind and how did you make them eat it??
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
I have tried getting them to eat some greens. My only successful attempt was once with my female. And that was roughly two years ago. I’ve found as long as they’re fed healthy gut loaded insects. Then if they choose not to eat greens it isn’t too much of an issue.
@leahg5028
@leahg5028 5 лет назад
Snakedude1814 What insects do you mainly feed them? I’ve tried meal worms, super worms, wax worms, pill bugs and crickets.
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
I feed primarily, Dubia Roaches, Hissing Roaches, Crickets, & Superworms. I stay away from feeding any “worms” as worms tend to be addicting and higher in fats.
@GhurdD

My Chinese water dragon didn’t like veggies at first so I started cutting up bananas into the shape of wax worms and as he started eating them he fell in love with bananas and now all I have to do is peel a banana and he’ll come running across the room to eat it

Using a Mini Halogen along with a thermostat to regulate heat will help tremendously in reducing electricity consumption!
