Milo, the M2 would be a much better choice today. It is an L2 (dual frequency) receiver.

Thanks for the great video. Got a question for you. I noticed you corrected the base station with the CORS differential correction and the corrected the M+ rover to the base station. Have you tried correcting the M+ rover with the CORS differential correction? If not, is there a reason why this wouldn’t work?

Hey Dave, using EZsurv, I could correct the M+ with the CORS data. I think it is best to have an onsite base station which is either over a known point or corrected and then use that base station for the M+. But if you only have the M+ (or M2) then you could certainly correct it with the closest CORS data. Have a super duper day.

Can a Reach RS2 (closest CORS 12.5km need the range) base be used with M+ (rover) over LoRA for corrections RTK? Cheap .. trying to save where I can.

Hi. could you please explain the complete setup in reachview app in order to use M+ as rover? I pretend to use LoRa comunication and collect points in RTK mode with RS+ as base. How do you collect an specific GCP? Thank so much for your videos, they are very instructive....

This is awesome! I really like this use case. How do you collect points from Reach M+ when using it as a rover? Does it connect with the Emlids Mobile app?

Jackson, yes you use it just like you do the Reach RS or RS+. To use this you would do a couple of things, 1) Make a Ground plane that you mount the Antenna to. I took a 5/8" adapter and attached it to the top of my prism pole. I sanded down the top flat and then mounted the ground plane, and antenna dead center. The M+ can just be strapped to the prism pole and you would need a battery source (small usb battery pack) to power the M+. You would then connect to the M+ via WiFi just like you would if using the regular Reach RS units. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. What power source did you use for the M+? It looks like the M+ takes up to 5.5V input. That's a little the output of most portable power blocks.

Yep, you can power the M+ with a USB battery pack.

Great video! Very useful. Which Tallysman antenna did you use specifically? I didn't see a link in the description. Also, was that just a typical power supply you had it plugged into?

from the video , you can get the antenna from the emlid store. i have one, and it has the same shape with antenna in this video. For powering the Reach M+, you can use regular mobile powerbank . because reach m+ need 5v input for power. i want to build this one too buy the way.

In your video it "drops breadcrumbs" along the path you moved (about 8:08). Are you able to take a shot at one location, pick up and move to another location, take a shot and so on, and it not "breadcrumb" your movement? Can you add a descriptive code or description to the shot while in the field? Miss seeing videos from you. Your videos are very instructive and hope you will do more.

Hey Bob. It has been quite a while since I did a video. I am going to sure enough get busy and do some more except now I want to do more start to finish videos. I just got a total station and working on learning that :) When you say breakcrumbs are you speaking of the the path that is shown as I went from one point to the next? I will assume that is what you are talking about. When you use the GPS units you are always recording a log file. That log file records all the data during the time you are using it (including satellites and position). But you are also going to go out and "survey points". So when you are marking points (ie GCP's in a drone map) then you stop, tell the GPS unit to mark the point, and you can name that point what ever you want (ie GCP1, or NW Corner Pole, etc). Those points are then stored in a CSV file that you will download from the Emlid GPS unit when you connect your PC to it (via wifi). IF you want very precise data for those named points, then it is necessary to "Post Process" the survey points and that is done using the log file in Post Processing software. I used EZsurv (and love it) but there are other options out there. So when you have a survey file, there is no trail (aka breadcrumbs) and only the points that you surveyed. If you are not using RTK services then it would the norm to let the GPS unit record the survey point for 3-5 minutes. It could be less but certainly not less than 1 minute. Spring is here so look for some videos to come out soon!

Hi, how to collect point from M+ ? is it the same way as using RS+ ? is it possible to do the same thing with reach M2 ?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 4 года назад
Agie you absolutely can collect points with the M2 or M+. You just need to attach an antenna to them. You can manually make a ground plane and then mount the antenna on top of the ground plane. I am pretty certain that my setup is demonstrated in the video. Hope this helps.

can you be more specific? are you trying to connect them with LoRa radio? when using one as a rover and the second one as a base, they will not be connected during the flight. You will simply do post-processing and use the log files from both receivers during that post-processing.

I'm trying to duplicate this video demonstration of the poor man version, but using a drone connected to M2 and ground point using M2. I need the RTK in real time during the flight for agriculture.
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 3 года назад
@@jacquiramos1681 Hi Jacqui, you can use one on the Drone and one on the ground as you say but they are not connected. You can not confuse RTK with PPK. when you are doing RTK the GPS receiver (in this case it M2 on drone) is connected to a base for real time corrections. That connection can be done by LoRa Radio or over the Internet. However, PPK is when you have a rover (M2 on drone) and another unit for a base (second M2 stationary on the ground). But in PPK you post process the log files using the base unit as a reference for the rover unit. When doing PPK there is no real time connection needed hetween the 2 units well you are collecting data. however they must be collecting data simultaneously in order to be used together in post-processing. To do PPK processing you can use the free software called RTKlib. by now somebody may have made some really good tutorials on how to use the software. I use paid software called EZSurv. it is wonderful software and very good to use, but if you are on a tight budget then you will probably want to look at using the RTKLIB software.

How did you get the points with M +? How is communication with Reach RS + using M + as a rover?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 5 лет назад
Hi Grazziani, I need to go back and watch the video to make sure of your question. I am pretty sure I was just showing that the M+ can be used to go out and mark Ground Control Points. The M+ does have an optional Lora Radio which I have but have never used. If someone is trying to get the necessary equipment to do GCP's at the lowest possible cost, then the M+ is a viable option. The best option (in my opinion) would be to do PPK (post processing) instead of RTK. In order to do RTK you would have to either purchase 2 lora radios for 2 M+ units (if you were using the M+ receivers). RTKLib is free and maybe there is a good video out there for how to do PPK processing on it. I use EZsurv which is very easy to use (and very good software) but it does cost about $1500 to buy. Hope this helps.

if you use it as a base/rover, what is the distance that you can get the rover from the base before signal starts to cut out
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 4 года назад
Hey there jf460. IF you use post processing software (like EZsurv or RTKLib) then the base and rover do NOT need any communication with each other. If you do not buy processing software like EZsurv then you really need to learn how to use RTKLib (very hard to learn at least 2 years ago). You simply setup one unit as a Base and let it log data for 30-45 minutes minimum. You then use your other Reach M+ as a Rover and go survey your points. You MUST log the Rover and Base during the same exact time period in order to post process them as a pair. Your base unit could run longer (ie 2+ hours) but your Rover must log data while the Base unit is logging data in order to post process them as a pair (which is very accurate). They do in fact make a Lora Radio add on for the Reach M+ but i have not tried it. You would use the LoRa radio setup if you are trying to do local (relative) RTK. I personally would recommend just making the commitment to post process your work always and in the end you will have good accurate data. If you can't buy EZsurv then you will need to take the time to learn RTKLib. By now maybe someone has made similar videos for RTKLib as I did for the EZsurv.

@@DroneMappingTools thanks a lot for your detailed explainations. In this case of PPK do you really even need a local base when you have a close enough network GPS station ? You could simply use one single emlid rs2 or rs+ as a rover ? In this case what would be your observation time ? Thanks again !
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 4 года назад
@@lucm1178 Hi Luc, if you have a CORS station close enough, then you are correct, you could simply do PPK using the CORS station as your base. I would probably observe the points at least 5 min with the M+. The main points to remember are 1) Keep the M+ in a good clear sky (even as you move point to point 2) have a nice ground plane.

Aeolus, sorry for late reply. EZsurv is only for post processing GNSS data. There is no cut/fill processing or anything like that. It is only for GNSS data. I have Global Mapper for terrain analysis. But you could use QGIS or a multitude of other point cloud analysis software (free to every expensive)
