Plumber's aluminum duct tape along the front edge of that shielding. Carry it past where the chassis catches. It cleans it up nice, and it won't happen again.
We had many thousands of those switches in stock and were shooting for accurate reissue. Probably caused more questions than anything worse. Some folks do like to use them for other applications. Great videos sir.
Unbelievable that Fender installed such a good quality ground switch connected to nothing. Too bad they didn't skip it and put the cost savings into something besides those notoriously bad IC filter caps.
We have one of those in the standard, dark color. It's also got the buttons/knobs and switched on the top. That thing sounds so good, when it's working 100%. I would love to have our rebuilt. There is such a difference in sound between these tube amps and the cheaper non tube amps. I'm converted..lol.. I used to think that am amps and amp... Boy was I wrong.
I kind of like those yellow back emi made fender speakers, it will be interesting to hear if the WGS is an improvement. I always liked the blonde amps with oxblood instead of wheat.
Wonderful video. I just built a Mojotone BF Deluxe Reverb for my first build. I used .004 brass shim stock for my shielding in the top of the cabinet. That is the only thing I had at the time. I used 3M double sided adhesive to secure it. Seems to work well just not sure if it shields as well as copper or aluminum. Other than my reverb being noisier the more I dial in and the vibrato taking up to 3 minutes to kick in I am mostly happy with it. I need to do the repairs to solve those two issues just not sure where to start. I left my shielded cables a bit long coming from the tank to the amp so I am going to shorten those and start there. Maybe replace the 3 disc capacitors in the vibrato circuit? I added a 25k pot in the back in place of the midrange resistor and that allows a lot of mids and acts as a boost in a way. The amp sounds great with a Eminence Legend EM12 but lacks some of that desirable Fender sparkle. I had a Celestion Type A that was ok as well. Any suggestions on components I could change to get closer to that authentic sound? Any help would be much appreciated.
The vibrato disc capacitors are probably just fine as long as they give the frequency range you want. Lyle does have a common mod that extends the range somewhat. D-Lab has a video on ground issues with this kit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-piDDIBCP09E.html The "your vibrato will be soup in 3 minutes" is not an issue if it manifests only when you first power the amp on, and you are not using the footswitch to activate the vibrato. IOW, if you have the vibrato footswitch activated when you power on, and then it takes 3 minutes for the oscilations to build, that can be "normal" for this circuit. Do the vibes come on immediately if you use the footswitch to activate them after the amp is turned on and warmed up (about 10 to 30 seconds)? If not, you've likely somehow mis-wired the oscillator node where the footswitch connects.
@@edwardleaver7838 Thank you for the reply. Seems like the amp needs to be on for anywhere from 1-5 minutes before the vibrato will work. After it is on and working it works fine. Maybe that is normal then? I do want to slow it down a bit. I know there are videos out there to help with that. I just need to trace the reverb noise down now. Thank you
@@jrose92081 Since your vibrato works at all, I assume you worked from Mojo's Wiring Diagram and not their Schematic? I'd try several things: (1) make sure the 2.2M resistor ties to raw bias and not ground. (2) Make sure your raw bias really is raw bias -- it's hard to screw this up but can't hurt to check. (3) Swap out the vibrato 12ax7 for another Known Good 12ax7. Make sure it's a 12ax7. (4) Check and possibly reflow all vibrato connections, including tube heater pins. Make certain you've got the heaters in parallel for 6.3v operation. (5) Last, try replacing the LDR driver tube section's 100k cathode resistor with 56k.
This is one of their special edition ones right? Thought they came with an alnico speaker? Mine did. I've often wondered how else they are different from a stock DRRI.
? How can I make a Monoprice Stage Right 15w amp clean up and not have so much gain? If you increase the volume with it being on a gain of 1, you are already in a crunch. If you have it at gain of 2 with a lower volume of 3, you are in crunch. It has no headroom. I've though of changing the speakers out, but I have seen many RU-vid videos where they did, and it didn't change that either.
