Putting him skin to skin is very smart. And I don't know why anyone would make odd comments about it. Warming up any newborn animal with your chest is the best thing to do. Big props to you for being so smart and quick.
People make odd comments because it is the Internet which is made up of the general public! That means you get a little bit of all types making comments! Lol
I had a litter of rabbits as a teen, and I had to take the runt because she wasn’t getting enough food, so I carried her in my shirt and fed her every 2 hours. The weird thing is that I ended up getting mastitis (I guess because your body can’t tell the difference between human babies and animal babies, so that mothering instinct kicks in? Super painful) because I carried her against my chest, tucked into my bra. It was the best way to keep her warm, but unfortunately was really painful for me in the end. She sadly never thrived, I believe she had some kind of internal problems because she never gained weight despite being fed around the clock for a week. Poor thing never really had a chance, even though I did everything I could. I don’t know why people think it’s a weird thing to do🤷🏼♀️seems pretty obvious in this situation.
@@bayleighc.5843 I’m sorry your baby didn’t pull through, but I bet she was loving being all tucked up where it was warm and cozy and she could hear your heart. You did a wonderful thing, caring for her so diligently.
I' vs done the same. With guineaigs, rats, kittens and even baby mice! Keeps them warmer than they were. And also gives you both hands. I also think the skin to skin is beneficial.
No one should make fun of keeping him warm with your skin. That’s quite literally why you are supposed to do when body temp is severely low. Animals and humans, babies are immediately given to the mom for skin to skin. It’s healing. It’s normal.
Yup. In the military we’re literally taught if there’s no hospital and a fellow soldier is suffering hypothermia to have them in a sleeping bag and have another soldier strip to their skivvies and get in the sleeping bad with them because the bodies a source of warmth
"Body heat is a great way to warm up a small animal" - Definitely! And a great way to get your hands semi-free so you can set up everything else they need!
St Francis of Acessie would wbe proud of you dedication and kindness toward animals. May the Almighty give you special place near his right hand when you enter the gates of Heaven. ❤❤❤❤ from a retired 33 yr career Cop…..
Watching you fight for this little baby makes me all squishy inside. Every life is worth trying to save! I really wish I was closer so I could adopt a pair of piggies from your rescue. I'm checking my shelters faithfully tho. Thanks for showing baby care.. Never know, I might need this info if I adopt from a shelter that doesn't know anything about piggies. Thanks!
When you put him against your chest, its like you're his mommy now. Its the sweetest thing, there's nothing weird about it. I'm rooting for the lil guy!
Sending love and prayers to the little one. He’s so tiny. It looks like he is trying to drink. I hope he thrives. I would call him Rocky because he’s trying to survive. I wish him well. 🐹 Angie
@@elijahalcaraz8155 I thought the name appropriate because he was fighting to live. It’s sad he passed away. I’m sorry for your Rocky as well. My oldest guinea pig passed last year. Happy healthy new year 2022 Stay safe. 🐹 Angie

Hello Saskia. What wonderful, caring person you are. You have a mothers instinct. Keeping my fingers crossed for you & the wee chap. Jane in New Zealand 💐
We got my daughter a Guinea pig without doing research first. We have had hamsters, rats, a snake, birds, cats, and dogs so I assumed they were like rats or hamsters. Well they are not and we got a 2nd one after researching a bit and finding out they should live in pairs. Well our 1st huge mistake was buying from a pet store. They sent us home with a female that they told us was a male. So naturally we got a second male companion for our other male. Well it was a female we got from pet store so we had babies. I’m telling all this to say we wound up with 5 piggies and to top it off the mom fixed 14 days after the babies were born. By the time we realized something was wrong it was too late. Man have I learned so much from having these guys. I finally had to surrender them bc I was so overwhelmed with 4 piggies to care for. These guys are more work than a dog or cat. It’s amazing that there are so many out there like you and your team to help people like me when we screw up. The rest of the story is a nightmare. I’ll spare you all the reading.
Skin to skin is how you save someone suffering from hypothermia and how to help a newborn baby regulate their temperature + the way you use your bra to secure it is super clever, as a 1st aid instructor I give you 10/10 don't let the uneducated comments get you down :)
Heartbreaking to see that little one struggling to breathe and hear his little squeaks. I hope he made it. I am glad she put him next to her body. He needed warmth asap.
You could clearly see the panic mode go off on your face for the little ones sooo sooo sorry about the one that make it was already gone but you put that baby right next to your heart and gave it the warm and strength and your amazing love and a part of you sooo it could fight for its life. Your face always tells us the story pain fear hope love and the fight and courage you have are never ending for theses piggies. You never ever ever give up sooo we should never give up on supporting you and helping you with donations is a blessing and a small price for someone who working sooo hard to save them after people just give up on them doesn’t seem fair but you never ever complain you are always thankful when you get to save one or 251 wow my heart hurts so much when I seen you truly trying to make a difference . Please listen help make a difference donation help her saves these precious babies. Please let us help save them. We can help her save sooo sooo many more.😍❤️❤️
I think he perked up a bit with the warm milk? It breaks my heart to see a piggie laying on his side, because that's a bad sign, but he seemed to sit up after you fed him a couple of drops. I know you think it was the CBD, but I think he was perking up before that. I hope, anyway.
Some syrup in the mouth helps struggling babies..just a few drops from a small syringe slowly. Gives energy and boost blood sugar levels that can drop during a stressful birth...what a surprise for you today..🙏🏻
What a precious little guy. He was perking up by the end of the video, so let's hope that means he will recover fully. I did the same skin-to-skin warming with a baby squirrel my neighbor found until a rescuer was able to come get him. It's really the best way!
I pray to god these wee guinea pigs make it , i have 2 of my own , love them to bits , i am so glad the lady is trying to help them , she deserves a hallo
The skin to skin stuff works so well and they hear the heartbeat too and it makes them feel safe!! If you're wearing a sports bra that little bit of space between the breasts it's a godsend cause putting them in your bra can squish them too much Had a litter of baby ferrets once born prematurely during a freak May snowstorm that was unexpected and momma dumped them all out of the nest, I put them in my bra right in that space & sat by the space heater and some of them seemed dead but recovered just fine. We push the idea of skin to skin contact on human babies and then forget that it's universal.
I love watching you with the piggies. You’re so knowledgeable and you are so good to these little guys. Of course it takes a village to make your rescue work smoothly. I just love how diverse our world is with so many different people that are good at so many different things.
Two women from the rescue I adopted a few cats from saved little kittens from hypothermia by putting them under their shirts against their skin (they were at an adoption event and didn’t have any heating pad or anything). It’s a great way to warm little ones, it’s not weird and it’s actually really convenient that we can share our body heat to save a life. Thank you for your hard work as always ❤️
Poor little baby piggies 😥 That little squimper (squeak + whimper) he was doing was so sad 😢 I pray the lil guy pulls through & all his siblings do too. 🙏🏻🤗
Oh my, what a precious little soul!💕 Much love and thanks to you, Saskia and LA Guinea Pig Rescue Crew. You all work tirelessly and lovingly care for our sweet little companions. I can’t thank you enough!!!😘
I have done this all my long adult life, brought cold lifeless kittens back fron the brink. All worth it. Those are the ones that are close lifelong companions to their surrogate human mom.
i got my two guinea pigs from one person who kept them in a small cage they almost couldn't turn around but the worst part is that the mama pig was preglant and in alot of stress. we got so lucky that the babbys didn't die. now they are safe and happy with their new owners!
Hi little piggie! Your mum may have rejected you, but we already love you dearly. Hang in there and grow strong. There's a lifetime of love, cuddles, fun and good food ahead of you! 😘🐾
My daughter was born at 23 weeks. She only weighed 1lb. 1oz. 11in. (481 grams)... Yes equipment and modern medicine helped keep her alive BUT skin to skin was the main thing that helped save her life too. The baby hearing the beating of the Mother's heart and the warmth of their body helps to not only regulate that baby's body, but to soothe them and even stable their vitals... It really does a wonder to them more than people imagine and that goes for all animal babies, not only just humans. We are mamalls after all... My daughters now a sassy happy and healthy 4 year old from her tiny 1lb. 1oz. self... My prayers go out to that Lil baby. ❤
aww I wish you all were closer my daughter and I were looking for a guinea pig and what better way to get one than to adopt one that hasn't had the greatest start in life !
You are a freaking superstar Saskia, all you guys are. I have the absolute highest level of respect for what you do, poor pigs are nature's peons. Big love from Boston.
Thanks to your mention of being in Finland it gave me an idea for a name this babys name should be little my . I always thought she feisty so is this baby .
I started freaking out when the baby was making those noises because one of my cat's kittens would make a noise almost exactly like those whenever it was distressed. Saw the update video and I glad he's doing better!
