Every time I watch Evans videos, I’m not depressed anymore. I absolutely love these videos and I don’t care what he does, all I care is that he entertains me and himself
Evan Shanks dude u installed the blow off valve backwards the end u put in the intake side needs to be on the smaller tube. The sound your hearing and liking is compressor surge from your blow off valve being backwards
F I X E D ! Hope you guys learned something in this vlog! What do you guys think about spending a few days off of the Evo and just working on the SC to get it to where it needs to be?
Hey Evan about the smoke from the Lexus, I know there is a well known issue with the pcv valve on 1jz’s that causes them to smoke. Read up on it, because your turbos aren’t bad.
Evan Shanks yeah the positive crankcase ventilation on both the 1uz 1jz/2jz recirculates any unburned gases back into the intake. You can get a filter to put on the pcv on the valve cover to block it off and cut the valve off the air intake and put some rtv over the hole. I also deleted the valve on my 94 ls400 that connected the air intake to the power steering. To me that stuff was just sending gunk into the throttle body but you'd want to get it tuned after you delete that because fuel parameters would slightly change.
The GFB is adjustable twist the top part and it will atmosphere and give you more of a blow off sound instead of hurting the turbo with the flutter my mans. Awesome video 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Clutch is the most adorable dog ever. Loving the Evo content and the 1JZ content keep up the good work. Also, love the color of the 1JZ it is sooo unique and cool.
I had a SSQV on my old Talon with a 2G MAF. I used a Recirculation kit and a hose to vent it back into the intake. Probably the best BOV I've ever had.
Evan, you should get a short shifter for the SC. Do what you need to do to progress, as long as you keep posting videos, I’ll keep watching no matter what you post
Although it depends car to car, your SO WRONG on recirc valves. If its a MAF (Air flow sensor, old engines only) then a Atmos BoV is bad as the car thinks there is more air than it has "read" from the sensor, therefore it runs rich (the extra air went to atmosphere). If its a MAP (Manifold pressure) then the system is reading "accurate" airflow via pressure, so it does not matter what kind of BoV you have. The Recirc/Atmos debate is only relevant on MAF cars. If its a MAP sensor, do as you please, it won't make a difference. Good luck!
Webweasel awesome im glad someone knows this beside me. Evan doesn't even know how to use the access port correctly. Maybe he should get on cobbs website and read the user manual..just like when he was worried about to much boost he didn't even know what the stock boost was. Lol
He will get there man, he's not an electronics guy. We all saw how scared he is with wiring looms! Yeah, I have to admit I was a bit surprised he had not looked up the cars stock profile before he bought it. Still we watch him cause his a chill fun guy who likes to learn and does it in his own funny way. He will get there man and we have a laugh and a chat along the way. ;-)
I run the same valve on my Mazdaspeed 6 and it’s amazing bro! There’s actually a dial on it that’s almost like a cap and you can adjust how much you vent to atmosphere, out of the box i think it is set to 100% recirculate but you can make it 50/50 or full vent. Love your videos keep up the great work!
Evan this is not how you install this part. Ive had this on my Evo for 6 months now and its great but you basically installed it as a block off plate. The bottom inlet goes into the small pipe and the side inlet in the intake pipe hole. The screw on top lets you customize the spring, the common setting for Evos is unscrew it until its about 3mm from the top and then tighten it 2-3 turns. And you can basically go 0-100% vent with the GFB the bottom of the head is like a knob it turns allowing you to select how much air goes out and stays in. I was 30 vent and 70 recirc and it was pretty loud still. Like this comment so he can see this before causing damage to the turbo.
Hey Evan keep being a inspiration! Feeling down during these winter days. It’s cold af in the garage. Watching your video made me really wanna get in the garage and get anything done. SUGGESTION: You should get a roll bar mount for the GoPro. That way you don’t have to wear your helmet all the time!
I used to watch your videos back when you had your Subaru. Although I wasn’t subbed, I would still watch your vids from time to time. Now that you drive the same car as I do (Evo) and the same color, I’m hooked on your vids.!
On the train to positive city! Glad your evo is feeling better my dude! And if you have to make videos on the SC to get it ready do it. I'll be here watching my lunch break away regardless! Thanks for providing us with class content to watch!
Spartek.z48 _ I think if you’re running a stock turbo, it’s not that bad. I’m running a stock turbo and have had surge/flutter for 3 years and my old sr is still running strong, I drift mine. Maybe since you ran a bigger turbo with more boost yours didn’t last. You’re right though. Better be safe than sorry.
I’m pretty sick right now and your videos have been inspiring me to try and get up. Your vids are happy and seem fun for you and when people are happy it makes me happy. So keep up the great work and i hope to meet you one day. (Come to Atlanta)
I know you said you put it on wrong, flutter isn’t great for the turbo but we all know you know that. But a cone filter will make the blow off noise you know much more amplified. Installed one on my car with a recirculating valve and it make it sound like a normal BOV. You’ll love it
I myself don’t have a car yet, but I’m learning so much about what I should do in the future to make my car great (and not blow up). I love all your content, so I’ll keep watching regardless of what you’ll do. Take a week or even two if you need it to work on your sc and dial it in perfectly
That HKS would never do any harm to your engine, unless the spring inside failed at wide open throttle. Then it'd go lean.. Not hating or anything Evan. I love your videos. I just feel like I need to correct you a bit :) it's going rich just for a split second. That's not gonna harm your engine. BUT I'm not saying that the atmospheric BOV is a wise thing to go for in a MAF equipped car. It could mess up your throttle response, cause your car to stall and other weird issues as well.
It’s insane to think how far you’ve gone since I first started watching when you had the Subaru, I can remember sitting there watching your videos looking on car websites to buy a car at the age of 16 knowing damn well I couldn’t buy it let alone get the insurance for it😂anyways, keep up the good work Mate, Big respect🤘🏽
dudeeeeeeee!!! thanks for making this video. i was facing something everytime i did pulls with the hks ssqv4. i didnt tune it . i got engine checks warning while doing pulls ( i got my evo x sst with the hks bov already installed btw). after watching your video i pull the hks bov and install the oem. mannnnnn it feels wayyyyyy better! and yup running too rich is bad w/o a tune. but im loving how my evo operates now. all thanks to you!
@evanshanks not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting anything special on the sc color, but that color makes the car look nasty! Maybe throw some black or gold wheels on it. I can’t believe how nice the color turned out.
hey Evan Shanks I think you accidentily switched the ports around.. the bottom one should get pressure, both of the other ones are for releasing it: the "horn" part for athmospheric and the hose-fitting part for recirculation. You can then adjust that valve by turning the upper part to how much air is going which direction. The flutter noise you hear comes from the BOV not opening properly. Please check the part number but here you got a manual: www.gfb.com.au/phocadownload/userupload/installation-instructions/t9033%20instructions.pdf do your research before putting parts on the car^^ ;)
I don’t know if it really matters but I think the bov is tall was backwards bro, I’d check that out if I was you👌🏼 great video love that your joined the Evo X gang!!!
Evan Shank I am a new subscriber and I just want you to know I really love the vids!! I’ve been binge watching!!!! Keep up the great work!!! God bless!!!
btw when you put a intake on or even a cone filter or swish cheese you air box even the airbox are made to be a silencer also and reduce engine noise.. my family built robot that makes intake and air boxes for almost every turbo ford and tons other cars.. put a intake on it and you will be like omgggg
For anyone seeing this video, if your car is speed density it is 100% okay to switch from a BPV to a BOV. What Evan explained only applies to MAF based cars. Not MAP based cars.
I had the same bov on my Subie and it started to leak so I switched it to a QR TURBOSMART AND IT works so much better just letting you know for the future
lil bit of unmetered air never hurt no evo lol.. I sacrifice having a perfect idle 100 percent of the time because a bov to the atmosphere just sounds so much better..
“Blow Off Valve” and “Bypass Valve” are the same thing my dude... just different terms. Bypass Valve or “BPV” doesn’t make it automatically assumed to be a recirculating style valve. Most BOV/BPVs have a recirculating option. HKS even sells a recirculating attachment for about $30.00 for the SSQV.
For someone with OCD as you claim, you do some pretty not OCD things. For example your dog is in your car, scratching up your centre console area and you don’t even care..
Even should Do a daily series for a week where even tighten up and fix things on the Lexus just to get it dialed in before next drift event. Like so he can see!
