I have 11 cats and 3 litter boxes. I switched to the pine pellets and just put them in the bottom of each litter box, just enough to cover the bottom. I don't use pads. I visit the litter boxes about 3 times a day and pick out the feces with a regular litter scoop, depositing it in a garbage can. In about a day and a half, the 11 cats will have wet the pellets and caused them, as expected, to turn into saw dust. They prefer the sawdust to the pellets (who wouldn't?). In another day and a half, they will have saturated the saw dust; still, there is little or no odor. This is when I change the litter: place the narrow end of a cat box into a tall kitchen garbage bag and up-end it; pat the box bottom until all litter is in the garbage bag. Spread a new layer of pellets in the empty litter box. Two boxes are enough for me in a garbage bag, as I am in heart failure, but a person who can lift and tote could get all three in one tall kitchen bag. This gal shakes the used litter through the grate; such an activity would be hard for me; getting down and up from the floor would be a real ordeal. I do not use a grate and picking out the feces is quick and takes little effort. Cats are very aware of feces and some will bury it completely but others simply show very well that they are not happy with feces where they want to go. They go from box to box, looking for the "best one", or go in and out of one box, turning this way and that to find a "fresh spot". None of mine have gone outside the box because of feces being present... but I want them to be comfortable. My cats never go outside; I do have a large, screened porch where they can sun and run a bit and see the trees and the birds and the people/cars, etc. With the pine pellets, there is no odor from urine or the ammonia that results when urine ages. However, the sawdust is easily tracked around the home. I've heard of a plastic material that looks like coils which traps the sawdust particles. I'm keeping an eye out for it. A year and a half ago, I had 5 cats. Then, a little queen, starving, came to my back porch and I realized she was nursing. Of course, I rescued her and the 5-week-old kittens. Now, we are 11. Spay, neuter. This little mother is so good and so sweet. To look into her eyes is to see God. The pine pellets at $5-$8 per 40 pounds compared to any good clumping litter at $22 to $32 per 25 # (approx.) bag, means a savings of about $900/year. And, the odor is never not apparent with the clumping litter.

Hi Gina, can I get an update if you're still doing this system? I have 11 cats too but with 6 litter boxes. All indoor cats. I've been using clay litter for the past 4+ years now. I clean those boxes about 2-3 times daily. Change the whole litter every 2 weeks. And wash the boxes once a month. I chose clay because of their clumping properties, easier to scoop, and eliminates the odour. With that many cats sharing litter boxes, I had to minimize their territorial issues as best as I could. CONS: Using clay... 1. Bentonite 2. has turned me into a clean freak due to the dust level. I had to wipe and dust alot of furnitures and stuff after cleaning the litter boxes each time. 3. I have one Persian and she already had respiratory problems. 4. check on their paws daily to make sure there's no chunk of clay stuck on them to lick. Especially the Persian one. Looking at this video I'm thinking I'd like to give it a try. So I was wondering if you had any issues with your cats? Like if they had any territorial issues or being more territorial after doing this system due to the scent or anything?

I love the breeze system. Since I'm mobility impaired and can't get to the store or pick up the 40lb bag of horse pellets, I order the 20lb bag of feline pine. It's more expensive than the horse pellets, but still better than the clay. Also, I use the breeze system with the tray. I just cut the cheap puppy pads in half and put one in the tray. Then once a week, I just roll up the soiled pad from the tray and throw it in the cat genie. My way is a little more expensive than the with the horse pellets, but easier and still cheaper and virtually no work for people with disabilities like myself.

I totally understand the 40lbs. being an issue. I have one of the employees pot the bag in the back of my suv; when I get home I grab the 2 pails from a previous cat litter brand; cut a corner off the bag and scoot it to fill the pails below. Carry one at a time into the house.

I have the Breeze system and love it! One suggestion use the complete Breeze system tray. Put your puppy pad between the green and lower while tray. Make sure to keep the pull out tray inserted. This will give support to the puppy pad when the pellets crumble. This way you aren’t buying another tray that doesn’t fit the Breeze trays.

I love the breeze pellets because they last FOREVER. The pine pellets do track and that is pretty much the point. Yes, expensive but if ur really hard up, they are plastic and can be rinsed (Ew, right) I only replace every 6 months and add to inbetween. Best invention EVER. I am taking u up on the puppy pad w/XL bottom pee catcher. That is absolutely BRILLIANT 👏 ❤😊

I would like to make a suggestion. I had one cat, who due to health issues, had to go often to have blood and urine drawn. Use the crystals that come with the Breeze since they allow the urine to go through. Don't use the pad underneath to soak up the urine. Instead you have a spot to obtain urine to take to the vet's office if needed. I am not saying this is okay to do every day, but if you need a urine sample, you can do this instead. I simply did not like the idea of the vet using a catheter.

That's fine if they're checking for blood or electrolyte levels in the urine but doesn't work well if checking for UTI because the urine wouldn't be a clean sample to check for presence of bacteria.

I have been using this system for a couple of months now and I love it. It is so easy. The only thing I do differently is I use the bottom white part with the green part of the breeze system just not the tray. It makes the litter box a little more sturdy and fits into the other bottom litter box better. I set it up just like the Victorian Gardens lady did. That also gives it a little more space for the "sawdust".

I do use the breeze with pellets. And I sanitize them every couple of weeks and re use them and top off with a little bit of new pellets. In the bottom I use a puppy pad with pine pellets on top. Takes care of the odor much better than their expensive pads. Using pine pellets on top it doesn’t sift well, and the sawdust tracks . I have 7 cats inside, 3 breeze boxes and 2 pine pellet sifting boxes. Soon I will have all Breeze boxes. With puppy pads and pine pellets over the puppy pads. Much better odor control than their expensive pads. And holds much more urine too!

You need the cranberry one for the bottom, the one you have there, that blue one is too small, and only use the green sifter part, the lid is optional depending on your set up, the two bottom pieces you can put away. One of my cats is a high sprayer of urine, so in the back of their original oversized box I put a large puppy liner and gently put in this cat box without the lid for it , just use the lid on the oversized box. What kind and size of litter box did you end up using on the bottom? I have been using this system for almost 3 months. I made the top and bottom out out plastic totes, it works OK but I drilled holes in the top part and I have had to make the holes bigger onetime already and I am still having problems with getting a lot of dust to go through. How well does the Tady Cat Breeze top box work as far as getting the dust down to the lower box? Thanks for any help!! Just a side note have 4 cats and the youngest one had no problem using it, my older cat took a little more time to come around to the new system. I still have 2 that are using a regular litter box and I want desperately for all 4 of them to use this system. It saves so much money, but as long I am still buying littler I am still spending more than I would like. What method did any of you use to change over the really picky old and set in his way cat to use the new system box? Again thanks for any help!!
@RuetheSphynx
@RuetheSphynx 5 лет назад
Hey! For the bottom of the litter box, we went back to the original bottom that came with the Breeze box. The only issue we find with the original bottom is we must clean out the sawdust often as there isn’t much headroom. Now for the top box, we had to remove it as it made Rue would have to sand near the center of her box, which she did not like! Thankfully she doesn’t scratch at the wood pellets and didn't need the top guard in place. We might need to think about doing an update video to this one :D

How long does it take you to go through a 5lb bag of the pellets? Did your cat have any issues with changing from litter to pellets? I find the breeze litter boxes to be too small. Does your cat have any issues with missing the box and or spraying out of the box?
@RuetheSphynx
@RuetheSphynx 5 лет назад
Hey! So for the pellets, we are actually still on the first 40 lb bag, so for us it lasts a long time. Rue was definitely not a fan of the pellets at first though. We had to slowly introduce her to them with a bit of sand litter mixed in, slowly removing the sand over time. With the top on, the Breeze box did feel kind of small. We removed the top cover, and so far she hasn't had any problems missing the box.

Sifting litter pans are normally designed for clay clumping litter so the sifter holes may be too large. I have a sifting litter pan and I love it but I am hoping to transition away from clay so I may need to make my own pellet friendly litter pan. I am not interested in the breeze system since I would be purchasing it and not using all of it's components AND we have a large cat who may not fit in it.

How long did it take your cat to transition to the new Breeze box? I put ours down about 3 weeks ago and one cat peed in it but the other cat wants to only use the pan with the litter in it. He cries and walks around looking for the usual litter pan if I take it away, so I had to put the older pan back down just for him. Thanks!
@RuetheSphynx
@RuetheSphynx 3 года назад
Some kitties can be a little fussy about the feel of the pellets and others take to it right away. We transitioned very slowly for our own peace of mind. Even adding a little litter to the pellets to encourage as well as keeping the breeze clean and letting the clay litter pan stay dirty a little while longer. We noticed kitties like clean litter pans, they will instinctively go towards the clean one eventually. I hope that helps. Bonus, if you can catch one using it, have a treat ready after they are done their business. Positive reinforcement for the win! 👍 I hope that helps, good luck ♥️

@@prettytootsies6406 Sort of harsh, but I see your point. Cats who eat dry food would surely not eat these because they use their teeth to break their "kibbles" and the pellets would hurt their mouth/teeth. Pine pellets don’t sift easily on the upper part of the breeze. I suggest to sanitize your used breeze pellets . But you will have to probably have to have a new bag of them to use while you clean the old ones. I soak my used pellets in a small pail covered with Odoban concentrate, overnight. Rinse until the water is clear and without bubbles. Then I just put them in an old colander and set in the sun for 30 min or so.
@charlesmoore1762
@charlesmoore1762 2 месяца назад
I agree with sashaporter5071, but also keep the pellets completely covering the grate. The urine odor may be coming from the pad and I have found the pellets block the odor if I can keep the grate covered. That's a challenge because one of my kitties loves to play with the pellets like a child in a sand box with a toy shovel. She'll spend five minutes digging around in the pellets. I just use the scoop to spread the pellets over the grate and I think that does the trick -- but your nose may be more sensitive than mine.

Thank you for the video. I am thinking about using this system when I get cats. The question I have is how do you handle #2 if you need to be away for a few days? Is the #2 smell strong if you don't pick it up right away? I am told the clumping litter can mask #2 for a few days if need be. This is more about worst case if I have to be away.
@RuetheSphynx
@RuetheSphynx 5 лет назад
In our experience, the pellets does not mask the scent of #2, and requires daily cleaning to keep the smell away. Clumping litter did a much better job of masking the scent. We haven't tried to leave it a few days without cleaning it, but my guess is that it would smell very strong! If you think you will be gone for a few days at a time, I would not recommend this system.

I agree! In fact, I think it's quicker to clean the #2 from the pellets, as it's easier to see where the waste is and I don't have to dig around for it. We keep a baby diaper bin next to the litter box and it makes cleaning it a 30 second ordeal. Of course we are only taking care of one cat though, which is obviously much different from your situation :)

We have been able to use the original set up without any problems, but we do use the Assurance 23×36 Premium Quilted Underpads from Walmart. There are 18 in the package for about $5. Because of the size of the Breeze System bottom tray, I am able to cut the pads in half giving me 36. I "shake" the pellets around once a day and the pad is changed once a week. Because it is a "human" pad, it is super absorbent and there is NO odor and there has not been any leakage. When I change the bottom tray pad, I also add a scoop (using a solo cup) of fresh wood pellets. So far so good.

Hey! So we actually crossed the border into the US and bought them there. That’s obviously not going to work during a pandemic though, sorry we couldn’t be more helpful. We checked around us locally and nobody carries them near us unfortunately. Well, unless you don’t mind paying a fortune at Pet Smart for the exact same thing, just with the picture of a cat on the bag and a price increase for no reason.

I've been doing half and half with sand litter and finally today did all pine. When she went poo half the poo was in the box but half was on the floor. I really hope it was just misalignment somehow and not a sign she's gonna refuse this. She's never misaligned before, ugh

Thanks!

What most people don't know and are quick to assume is that the litter that comes with that breeze system Never has to be replaced again in your life, is it comes out cheaper to have it forever. pee doesnt absorb in it like the wood, so there is no disintegration just a pad to throw away. My main point is the litter falls right off the poop too, so you never are throwing the litter away.
@buckjohnson5447
@buckjohnson5447 Год назад
some pellets stick to poo so you are routinely throwing small amounts away
@charlesmoore1762
@charlesmoore1762 2 месяца назад
My mileage varies; YMMV, too. I have three Breeze users and one of them gives me "product" that never sticks to the pellets. Another one has product that sticks some, but from which most pellets fall away in the scoop. The third one has product that makes pellets cling and defy shaking off with the scoop. The best is my outdoor cat because he never uses the litter box at all unless it's raining and he stays inside. He'll look out the storm door glass and if it is gently raining, I can hear the wheels turning in his brain -- No, I don't want to get wet. I can hold it. -- He will use the litter box if he has to. But, I can't make a cup of coffee in the morning before he has wolfed down his breakfast and he's out the door and under a tree. Damn, I love that guy!!

Thankfully rue was very young when we started. The older the cat the longer it will take. Every week we would move up a phase. Patience and repetition is your friend. @@theviolinsiblings309 -Just letting you know that you can find these pellots, which are Pine Pellots for HORSE BEDDING which MUST BE "KILN DRIED"!!! If NOT "Kiln Dried" the pellots will be toxic to cats and kittens! (During the "Kiln drying process", the pine oil dries up and evaporates). The 40 lbs of Pine Pellots for Horse Bedding (Kiln Dried) are about $8.00 and you can find them at a Horse supply store, or Tractor Supply store. Where do u live? U can try this website to see if they deliver outside of Miami, Fl, where this store is located. It's a Horse Supply store and the website to order things from is: SunsetFeed.com. hahahahahh $6-7!!! In Canada it's $40+ !!!!!! I'm trying to find an alternative and horse pellets are okay replacements but they're simply just not as good as the purina ones. I mix both and the purina pellets are noticeably better at clumping around the waste master, thereby dehydrating it and eliminating scent quickly.

For me I have absolutely no problems with the litter in the cost of the litter. The pine litter maybe more but in the long run one bag is an entire month supply so you've got about $12 monthly which isn't bad.

It seems with this system that it's not good for working people. If you're out of the house all day and your cat poops, you're not there to scoop it out. Doesn't this make it more likely that your cat won't use the box while the poops are in it? My cat is so used to covering his poop with clumping litter so I doubt he'll go for this.
@RuetheSphynx
@RuetheSphynx 4 года назад
With Rue, she always uses the same corner of the box so she didn’t mind a little mess. It doesn’t cover the waste very well though, so there’s lot of potential for them to step in it and track it around the house.

Pine is is not the way to go It absorbs the smells and it starts to stink very bad try this forget about the pads put another little pan on the bottom that'll collect the pee use the ceramic pellets breeze on the top When the pan gets full of pee on the bottom just throw it down the toilet wash the palettes that are on the top with salt water let them soak overnight Only with salt water Put them out in the sun After you drain the water so they'll recharge themselves And you can do this over and over and over and it's not going to cost you nothing make your own cat box two pans one small one one large ones one inside each other put a grat on of top go to the dollar store get a clear thin chopping square peace make some holes in it then put the pellets on the top you're good to go This is for all the cat lovers out there

I F YOU ARE going to use PINE--- MAKE SURE it's KILN DRIED---- otherwise the pine oil could be DEADLY to your little beauty... and you want to give her the BEST life ever. FORGET the pads-- use a plastic bag liner and make a sifter box and just compost it (if you're in an apartment- make a flower box or a small boxed "garden" and use this as compost with your kitchen leftovers and egg shells-- makes GREAT fertilzer).
