Authentic Kodava Food In Mysore Only At Simply Kodavas!
Finding authentic Kodava food outside Coorg can be quite the task but for the citizens of Mysuru however, Simply Kodavas is the place to go! This family-run restaurant features traditional Kodava art and serves up classic Kodava dishes.
In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers’ Editor Kripal Amanna pays a visit to this restaurant and chats with the owner and his son about this distinct cuisine. He samples the quintessential Kodava Pandi Curry a flavourful Pork Chilli, both finished with kachampuli. He also tastes a robust chicken curry and couple of unconventional dishes namely, the Pork Biryani and Pork Kebab. He savours all of this with some traditional Kodava rice-based staples like Kadamputtu, Noolputtu and Paaputtu.

Pandi curry
you can taste roasted spices, fresh coriander, the tartness of the kachampuli and a peppery heat. A finger-lickingly good pork dish!

the fat in this is spicy and flavourful! pork melts in your mouth and the delicious fat coats your palate. You have the deep brown roasted spices, a slight tartness from the kachampuli or coorgi vinegar, and the spice of the green chilli that lingers on the palate. a satisfying preparation!

Chicken curry
This curry definitely holds its own against the pork items in terms of flavour. Made with a spicy coconut base, the gravy has certainly been cooked for a while for the flavours to deepen!

Pork biryani
made more in the pulao style of cooking. The tiny morsels of tender pork have a certain smokiness that takes over your palate. Can also detect a hint of pickling spices. This is very different from a typical biryani.

The meat definitely has a bit of bite to it and the fat hasn't rendered down. Innovative dish but I’m not a fan.

Personally I think Coorg cuisine is one of the most underrated and unknown cuisines outside Karnataka.Your approach to food and different cuisines is what makes your channel unique. The pandi curry tastes good on the second day, so if the cook has prepared it yesterday the meat will taste good today, that's the secret with pandi curry. Since meat takes time to absorb the masala and kachampuli taste, hence at home we prepare it in the evening for the next day

I was deputed at Mysuru for 2 years, and was a regular at this amazing place even before they relocated to their current address at Vijaynagar. Apart from the food being fantastic the father-son owners are very humble and serve the preparations with loads of love. Needless to say their pork items simply out of this world.

Brilliant Kripal. My favourite Kannadiga cuisine are - Mangalorean (Catholic) fare Mangalorean (Bunts) fare Kodava cuisine Each of the above have its advantages. The Mangalorean and Kodavas do amazing pork and game. The bunts do brilliant chicken dishes and Kaane. The Catholic’s also do great fish and beef. Can’t wait to go to Kudla again. That whole region probably has the cuisine to compete on the world stage.

Love your videos and glad you featured Coorg cuisine as I am from Coorg. However, I wish you had explained what ’Kachampuli’ is because it is one of the main local ingredients that is used and non-natives wouldn't know exactlywhat it is and how it's made.

Kadambottu is called as pundi in Mangalore... We mangaloreans too prepare these rice balls n it goes v.well with fish n chicken curry...yummy😋😋.. And the black jaggery coffee, bargafee o something called in chikmaglore😋😍

I think people need to experiment with smoked pork, make pandi curry with smoked pork. I tried this 4 years back, the entire preparation was over in one hours time.

Sir have u tried Chandrappa HOTEL nati style located in Matthikere BANGALORE. Famous for pork biryani. If not please check and try once.It started in 1976.

'SIMPLY KODAVAS' is an Authentic Kodava Cuisine Restaurant which comes in Vijaynagar 2nd Stage in Mysore. Pork Masala and Akki Otti is good here. I had eaten both. Coffee or Tea is given as Complimentary (Free) only if we ask for it when we order or eat any dishes there.
