I would forget Trend…they’re ok but not great. After spending years on tablesaws and going through many blades including axminster axcaliber premium, the best one in their range. The best results I’ve had for best tooth life, cut quality, and speed of cut were with Shark pro blades. Inexpensive at £35 for their 60&80T. They better cheap Italian blades, they better Trend imho, and cut as well as Freud industrial blades at three times the cost. They also better Axminster blades for blade life and cut quality and are well made with decent tooth quality and low run out of 0.02mm.
Interesting stuff, especially the Db test, after switching my mitre from the standard Evolution blade to a Saxton 80 teeth the reduction in noise (and vibration) through the cut was noticeable, perhaps due to the abuse the original had suffered through it's life. There are specialist blades for melamine and ply, and it's said the "correct" way to cut melamine is with a shallow surface cut on one side (after pre-scoring), then cut through from the other side on the second cut, with the blade set to just make the cut, no deeper, I don't know anyone who's got time for all that though lol, I believe the blades for the job are "tri cut", or something similar, as I've stated previously I cut predominantly hardwoods, and find the Saxton 80 tooth blade perfect for my needs, especially when you look at the cost, but I do plan on trying out their professional range when I get chance, this weekend is 100 feet of 18mm width grooves to 20mm deep, perfect chance to have a go with a recently acquired orange tools 6mm grooving blade on the table saw, the neighbours will tell me if it passes the Db test or not...
I think you would make the effort and correct set up if you were cutting the melamine board as a daily routine for work related tasks. I still need to get the yellow versions of Saxton blades.
Funny you say you saw a reduction in vibration with the Saxton 40T and 80T. I swapped from the Evo 40T to the Sax 40T/80T and it has a noticeable amount of increased vibration/chatter. Still leaves nice clean cuts though so I'll suck it up.
@@iamaduckquack The 80 tooth Saxton is still doing well for me in the mitre saw, I replaced the blade in my table saw about a month ago, to a Saxton 40t, and to be fair it's not been a good experience, to the point where I'm looking at replacements to try, despite reducing the speed I feed material through the saw it's chattery as hell, and the finish isn't great, I've been through everything I can think of, with the blade and saw, and can find nothing to suggest why this is the case, maybe a tiny balance issue, but not noticeable when it isn't under load, swings and roundabouts perhaps, or variations in production quality, or perhaps I'm just overthinking it, but either way it's nowhere near as nice to use as the other blades I've purchased from Saxton
@@andrewakerman419 Thanks for the info. I think I'll stick with the 40T from Evo and the 80T from Saxton, seems to be a good enough combo for my use case.

As usual, your presentation is impeccable and unbiased but I question the need for a dB comparison between blades- are my neighbours going to appreciate the difference over the motor noise? The most important point for me was that you should always cut face down. The bottom of the cut is far better on eachblade. Maybe everyone already knew that but I didn't! Tx Tomasz
To be fair if you just scored the top first and then make the full plunge you will get very good results. However I wanted to test the blades hence I done this way.
It's the arbour side that gets the most chip-out. So, on a table saw the top of the cut is the best, and on this sliding mitre saw it's the bottom that is cleanest. Also, the less that the blade protrudes, the cleaner the cut overall.
Thanks! Just wondering, why did you say Trend was the best? When cutting laminate I only really care about the front side of the laminate the most, and the back cut of the Saxton looked perfect while the Trend had some tear out...?
It was overall impression to be honest. Been using the trend now for a good while and it just feels better plus gives great results. Very similar to Saxton just that tad better I think
Their is no such thing as little tear out. Once their is even a small tear out that piece of laminate is now useless. You cannot sell cabinets even with one small tear out.
The trouble with this is that no proper joiners/carpenters start the cut from the front as the blade is cutting on the up pulling the timber/laminate making splinters. what they do is half depth cuts from back to front and finish of from front to back which means blade is cutting down for top half and up from the bottom in the second half of cut so stopping all the tear out.
Many carpenters I was observing don't waste time on fancy saw movements that take time. They just buy a very good quality blade that fits the required task. Time is money. These blades are budget ones for a DIYer not a carpenter.
