Say Charles - John Ferrara

I wrote this song for my grandpa Frank. He would always call everyone “Charles”, often coupled with a saying “Say Charles, I’m knocked out, I wrote a letter.” He taught me and my dad how to fully appreciate the arts among many other things. He’s still alive, although his dementia has significantly set in. It’s so tough to see a man who kept his mind so active and was so full of passion succumb to it.
I wanted to write a song for him, as I did for my grandma. My aunt sent me a video of her playing it for him recently and he seemed to be peacefully enjoying it.
Here’s a single take of the song, with just the audio from my phone, warts and all.

So sorry for your grandpa. I am sure deep inside he is not only peacefully enjoying it, but it also helps to fight his illness. All the best to you and your family, thank you for your music.

Thank you so much for the kind words. He sadly passed away last year but I was able to play it for him in person and my family played it for him again when he was closer to passing. He was a great man, his was a life well lived. Thank you so much again for the words and for watching

John you're the Johnniest John of them all. I watched this while I eat breakfast and it's the best breakfast I've ever eaten.
