Heck yeah, had to do that... its crazy how good the RGB looks IMO! I have an UltraHDMI modded N64 as well and the RGB looks really really close to it in terms of video quality.

You could eliminate the heatsinks by printing a metal shell and using it to sink the heat, it’d give you a slimmer n64.

I like it. I, personally, like swapping out that awful heat spreader. I replaced mine with copper heat sinks.

Looks like the case was made out of legos,rgb make color look better but the makes the pixel more viewable

The gunk on that case was probably 'smoker dust', if I had to guess. It has that charactaristic brown tar colour and seems like it's stuck to the surfaces pretty firmly.

5:07 - Yep, those two legs sure do love to pop loose! I certainly didn't learn that the hard way, why would you even think such a thing? 😅 Thankfully it didn't ruin the pads, so resoldering them back down was pretty simple.

it has happened to me too... the worst part is I didnt figure it out till after I tried to turn the console on... took a solid 30 minutes to figure out what happened, lol. Now I just feel the need to tell everyone about every time I take on of these things apart😂

@@lilmancc35 I think it should be later this month. I spoke to Alex prior to launching the video and his plan was to have pre-orders ready end of the month. The Voultar RGB kit is readily available right now :)

Question: Could I hypothetically drop the internals of a Japanese N64 into this 3D-printed shell without any issues in regard to playing US N64 games? Also, how and where would I get me one of those custom jewels??? That thing looks nice!

Rockergaming you need to tell him ASAP that this needs to be all PETG, because PLA plastic will melt in regular sunlight inside an air conditioned room, basically this will melt for anyone in florida or one of the desert states out west.

I will keep him posted. I know he is in Texas doing his testing, but I will pass along the note. Originally I think the plan was for the whole print to PETG, but I believe there will be some sort of mix of materials now. Being from Chicago, I rarely deal with this, so I am glad you said something!

All the parts that come in contact with the heat spreader are in fact PETG (hottest tested temp 57c). And that's before the addition of a silent fan which drops temps to about 43c As for leaving it the hot sun (even if turned off), this is unfortunately true of any PLA print. I'm open to doing full PETG shells, but know it will limit color options and raise the price.

Heyo ^^ I want to mod one of my gamecube consoles but I don't know how to start. I already got a modchip as well as a adapter for SD Cards and screwdrivers, but there are so many different tutorials, that I dont know which one to follow for absolute beginners

i would say instead of a modchip, go for a save game exploit instead to boot into swiss to play backups, homebrew & GBI. It uses games you probably already own and you don't have to solder anything into your gamecube,

If you already have the mod chip (I'm assuming it's a xeno gc) I'd install that using the wired method (check out the tutorial I made several years ago about it). Then I'd burn a copy of swiss to a mini DVD and just use that. The DVD should self boot to swiss and you can load games onto the sd2sp2 or sdgekko. Ive done a few tutorials that cover all this, feel free to take a look!

In the first part showing the new shell (around 1:30) it was orange and blue and then you said grey and I thought "thats most definitely blue" then the next clip around 1:45 its grey.

It does look like that! I think the shell was sitting a hair to shallow in the photobox which made it look like that but it's definitely grey, I'm really digging the opportunity for customizing the colors with this!

he is using a textured PEI bed, I am not sure which one, maybe Alex will comment on it, but the print quality is fantastic! I consider myself a 3D printing power user and this is better than my print quality. I am impressed.

Hey rocker I have the 8bitdo gbros adapter and my controllers can no longer vibrate even though i cleaned the port Think you can help me out

I cant say I have run into that exact issue, but the gbros uses a "buck converter" to up the 3V from the AA batteries to 5V for rumble. My guess is you either need new batteries or there could be an issue with the internal buck converter.

How do you think the plastic will hold up against any heat overtime? Sorry if a noob question on my part.

Not a noob question at all. I think as long as it's not in direct sunlight or exposed to a ton of heat you should be good to go. PLA will start to deform around 65*C. My understanding is with the included fan mod this runs around 45*C under load. So it should be well within temp, but avoiding direct sunlight especially in warmer climates in the US would be recommended

And in the interest in completeness, petg has a deformation temp around 90*C. My general thought it is for me in Chicago I should be fine. I also plan to keep this console and an open shelf wire rack so I don't think the heat will personally be an issue for me at all.

I cant be sure what the deflection temp is on the ghost case but I know it has acrylic in it (it's likely a blend of multiple plastics) and the deflection temp of acrylic is similar to petg. What I can't comment on (but you might know) is the normal operating temp of a Xbox. My guess is the deformed ghost cases likely were subject to high heat likely outside of normal play, but admittedly im not as informed as I know you are!

oye, I dont think I could personally go down that path, but I can appreciate why you would. The only upside is, emulation has gotten a lot better over the years. There are several systems where I have reduced myself to the OG console and everdrive!
