I’ve been doing rideshare for over 6 years and done it all in the end of the day it depends on the passenger. Their not fulled by us being extremely nice, clean vehicle, safe driving, tip sign request etc.. because they know what we really want. They watch these videos too it’s no secret don’t try too hard and don’t make tips your main goal, just drive.

Agreed. I've done ALL of these. Two silent riders today tipped me, the most shocking was a lady who felt the need to try and direct me in rush hour Boston traffic. I quipped at her, "I know where I'm going, I promise, your in good hands." She said, "This spot is tricky." I said, "I know, that's why I squeezed myself through the middle of this traffic. Plus, I do UberEats and have been to this house multiple times." She said, "Oh, your a Pro." LOL! I rolled my eyes in my head but she gave a $10 tip for going 5mins up the street on Rt 9 traffic. Everyone is different.

It's all a bunch of BS! I've done all of that and people simply won't tip. I've been extremely nice for way too long, gone above and beyond, but tips are if you're lucky one for every 10 rides you give, at least here in Los Angeles. Passengers get charged a fair bit, so this should not come as a surprise, even though I've always kept to myself when I had to, chit chatted when appropriate to do so, offered cold seltzer /water especially during the summer months, etc. I've done it all and I'm a pro, but just got tired of all this nonsense. I know many of you out there can hear me?🙏

Another simple thing that has led to more tips for me is to ask riders if they have all their belongings when they get in the car, as well as when they exit. It does no good to remind them to grab their phone, keys, or wallet when they get out of the car if they didn't have it to start the trip. It helps to bookend the ride with the same reminder and prevents the need to search the car for items or, worst case, return to their pickup spot.

I had a passenger with a bowel disease. Had I not pulled over fast enough he would've shit in my car. He got out and projectile defacated on the side of the road. Glad I pulled over in time. I thought about leaving him there because no way he was getting back in. I get out to tell him that I need to pull off and he asks for the toilet paper that he has in his bag in my back seat. I go and grab it and stretch my arm out to hand him the toilet paper. Then I remember I have flushable wipes in my car and give that to him as well to clean himself up better. He literally had shit all over his hands and clothes. I decided to take him home anyway as we drove 20 miles with the windows pinned down. And after all that... no tip. I learned that people will tip you if they want. There is no sure way to guarantee a tip, obviously, but it doesn't hurt to be courteous. That's all you can do.

Something that helps. From my experience people who say. “Hey, I’ll tip you in the app.” Almost never do. Also the more they say it the less likely it will happen. So do a little psychology here and say “Most people that say that they are going to tip actually never do but I believe you. You seem like a good and decent person.” That puts a little pressure on them to not be liars.

I said that once to an accidental share ride that I accepted on a blink if you miss it tap. After dropping him off, he kept boasting about being in a clean Uber and me being professional. After he said what he said, "I told him that most Share rides don't tip because they're on the Share ride to save money. I accepted this trip accidentally but if you feel you want to tip, most ppl do it quietly. Saying one thing is one thing, but doing it is another." Uber profiles customers who tip and raises the price of their subsequent rides in an attempt to capture those future tips. At some point the price gets higher enough and the customer doesn't tip at all thinking the driver is paid enough

Great advice... may I add a few more based on my experiences using Uber as well as driving? 1) For the love of GOD please CLEAN the car and throw out garbage. I've been in some cars (on vacations, etc) that looked lived in. Not Cool. Was also at the airport rideshare lot and observed soooo many cars filthy dirty. Caked in dirt, visible body damage, etc. I can't imagine what it looks like and smells like inside. YUCK. I personally wash and vacuum my car at the start of each day (I have a car wash plan so it costs me about $1 a day). I also clean out the seats every few rides with Lysol spray and have a "new car" air freshner that I apply every few rides. 2) Put away your airpods and pay attention to driving. I think it's rude to have a driver listening to a podcast or news or whatever while I'm a passenger. And don't get the phone to talk to someone while you have a passenger unless it is an emergency. And don't speak in a foreign language while driving a passenger that does not understand. I get it that you took a call and are speaking your native tongue but that is just rude... 3) Treat a passenger like you would like to be treated if you were the passenger. Your tips are amazing. I figured them out a long time ago and it's good to see somone recognize them and make a video.

In my experience, the first 5 seconds into the ride is when I have to figure out if they want a conversation or silence during the ride. My script for every passenger I pick up that works for me is: Greeting: Hello! Are you (passenger name)? You are going to (location address or location name)? Great! Icebreakers (2 - 5 secs in the ride): How are you doing today? or comment about the weather and give a 3-day forecast. Silence is golden: I don't say a word after that unless they initiate the conversation. That's how I know what type of passenger they are. Drop Off: Here we are. Safe and sound. Thank you! (I don't like reminding them to rate me or leave a tip. I have a small signs on the back of my front seats that reminds them of that. I think that is redundant and feels like I am begging them for those. My tips have increased since I put the signs up.)

Same, that's been about mine for the past 8yrs of doing Uber. However, I don't ask their name, I greet their name. "Hello, Matthew." One girl I said her name outside the window, and she was like "How does she know my name?" LOL! Twice two ladies thought that, "How does she know my name?" And a few seconds later, it kicks in - Uber! I don't mind if they say their name, I want them to because they are recorded on dashcam. That way, they can't lie and say I picked up the wrong person, so I want them to confirm their name for the camera. Prior to dashcam, it irked me LOL!

This is just straight up wrong. 90% of the customers who give me tips are the customers who I had a conversation with. Riders are much more likely to tip a driver they like, a rider cannot like you if you haven't said anything. Good conversations are the key to tips, period. The quiet ones decided if they were going to tip or not before they even got into in the car.

You have to feel out your passenger. Some will want to talk while others may not want to talk and you have to recognize when it is best to shut up! When I start the ride I usually start off with "How are we doing today?". From there you will almost immediately know rather to shutup or they want to chitchat. Building that good rapport will go along way to getting a tip! I got 7 years of experience so I know! Just being quiet without greeting them once they are in your car will set the mood to a negative atmosphere and that will hardly get you tips!

I recently put signs on the back of the front seats so passengers in back see them that say "Little known fact Uber takes almost 60% of our fair however we do get 100% of tips. Tips are greatly appreciated :)" and that has helped quite a bit. It gets a conversation started and I think a big reason people don't tip is if they have $20 fare they think we are getting $18 of it not realizing we may only get $8 of that. The key I think is educating the passenger.

When your passenger gets into your vehicle never ask how are you doing? Your obligating them to say more then they may want to. Simply say hello. Next confirm the drop off location. By alleans feel free to use the windows or let me know if you need heat. Is their a particular radio station you would like to listen to? If by chance you decide you would like to make a stop along the way please take a second to add it in the app so my next passenger will know of any delays in their trip. Even a two min delay could get me into trouble. That's all you need to say to people. Unfortunately you have to say this because people will always ask if you can make a quick stop. Even with a promise of a tip. If they don't wanna pay an extra dollar or two in the app their not tipping cause you wanna be a sucker.

Hey, can you share some of whatever you’re smoking with the rest of us cause you’re not living in the real world. Riders are cheap. They don’t tip. We need full transparency the rider and the driver both need to see what the rider is paying and the rider and the driver need to see what percentage goes to Uber and what percentage goes to the driver, then maybe they’ll tip, MAYBE.

I offer water now and hand sanitizer, that's it. If someone asks to use my cord, I tell them it's not available due to having to use it. Plus, your going a short trip, so you won't get much of a charge. Most ppl who ask for the cord no longer tip, they just expect you to have a cord

This a video Harry bought, possibly from Uber. Would it kill this guy to introduce himself? Is it completely necessary for this guy to speak like he's had one expresso too many? And he's at 50% tip Ratio? He's been working fulltime for over a year and he's just now hitting 1000 trips?
@UberDriverChat

The thousand rides doesn’t actually surprise me as I’ve been driving over two years and I barely have 3900 rides… he might just take longer rides cherry, picking them This guy also has his own channel where he shows really really high Uber fares coming through that he must get from having an Uber Black type account He is on on the East Coast… and the ride category that he gets I don’t see out here in California

Common sense would say if you’re doing Uber in the cities around ghetto predominantly African-Americans you’re not going to get a tip as anybody who works in the restaurant industry knows that African-Americans tip horribly.. if you’re going to get tips, you probably need to do airport rides or rides and more affluent Caucasian Asian areas. That’s kind of business, 101
@kennethlee4894
@kennethlee4894 14 дней назад
There is no straight rule on this.. There is a man near me in an affluent area that often makes reservations to the airport. He doesn't tip. Also people you don't think will tip sometimes do. Once a man handed me money and I asked what's this for? He didn't seem like the tipping "type" at all.
@HarringJess
@HarringJess 13 дней назад
Unfortunately the stereo type is accurate. I stick to weathier areas, but I do notice that ppl who take Uber to and from work don't tip because it's their regular mode of transportation. But I stopped going intot he low income part of the wealthy towns (because they have them); they never show up, always late, don't tip

@@Macelinabdirahin if you don't want to share that part, then make up some outlandish story. And become so good at it that it has them begging for more. I drive in Nashville TN, I live in Alabama. When people ask how long I've lived there, I laugh and say I don't live here.... I hate Tennessee. 😅 Then they see my Alabama hat and if they're from the south they get it. If they're from anywhere else they ask why and I explain it's just a college football rivalry. 😂😂 Just find what works for you. But if people talking to you bothers you, you should probably get a job doing manual labor. No one will talk to you then. Except the boss when he cusses you out for doing it wrong 😂😂

No. The non-tippers in the hood will take all the snacks and water with them. They act like it’s reparations. I remember one kid filling his bag like he was looting a 7/11. Tyrone has no shame.

Maybe on a specially hot days where it's in the 90s or 100s have a secret stash of ice-cold bottled waters. Read your passenger and if it seems that an ice cold bottled water would make them really happy then just offer it to them maybe that could lead to a generous tip... And if it doesn't lead to a tip just let it go... I find that the tips come when you are least expecting them...
