Never stayed at the Trop in Vegas, but I had some fantastic times as a youngin at the Trop in AC. My first time there my 6 friends split 2 rooms for a weekend and I drove. Parking garage was 20$ a night. By the time we left, my college boy ass was almost broke. The AM we left, I took my last 40$, put it in a slot machine, and ended up eventually winning 100$. Just enough to get my car out and put 40$ gas in my gas tank to drive home to North Jersey. My friends had to pull over twice to puke on the way home. Great times 😅
In june 2022, i was at the crap table with the Color Up club. I rolled 23 rolls then eas passedvthe dice to me for another roll of 18 before bigvred. I won the roll off with my 1st roll of 23. Wife and i stayed at the Tropicana a few time in the 80's and 90's.
I stayed there about 20 years ago, in one of those original 300 rooms I think. It looked like it had never been renovated. Complete with avocado green leather chair and mirrors on the celling over the bed. I was there for work, so I didn't spend much time on the property. And when I did have an evening free, I went somewhere else.
🌴🦩While the Tropicana never caught my eye to get me to visit there, it is sad that so much history from 1957 will be gone in just over a week. Seeing everything lèt go. All the hoteks of yesteryear had stories to tell. Now gone. Too bad they couldn't somehow keep a portion of them up at least for like a museum.
Paid my last respects to the Trop earlier this month. I've been visiting Las Vegas since 1982 and have fond memories of this place. Thanks for the fun times Trop, you'll be missed!!
Stayed in the old 3 story section back in the 70s. Almost every trip since then, at least stopped by and played a bit. Still hate it's going to be torn down especially for a darn ball field.
your not just recording a vidoe your recoding History thank you for sharing this love it and the music at the end made ma emotional. hope we see a brighter Future
Love ❤️ how you finished off the video with a tribute to all those who have served this hotel and iconic property for years…. A testament to strength, loyalty appreciation and admiration of the U.S work force!
Great tribute, Jacob! I visited this place a couple days ago. Very charming and clean, old-school look. Very nice place. Sad it's going. I played at the same bubble craps and Roulette games lol.
Jacob~ This was an exceptional video. We were not able to make it out to visit the Trop one last time. This video helped. Thanks for the research, editing, and the tribute to all the employees. The Vegas skyline is always changing. However, this property is true Vegas History. It hits different. Thank you again for making such a great video/ tribute.
I stayed at the Tropicana when in town for a friend's wedding back in 2013. At that time it had just been fully renovated and it was a super nice stay. I was surprised and saddened to hear that they were shutting it down.
As a 27 year local Las Vegan we did the same thing. Had a great dinner at the staeak house and enjoyed banter with our waiter who had been there longer than I've been local. I too hope they save the glass mural. Thank you for this awesome video showcasing the Trop!
Thank You for that clip at the end where you showed the the shout out to the employees. They're the ones who helped make the experiences for people, and they usually never get so much as a hearty handshake.
Before the days of the mega resorts, the Trop was definitely one of the premier properties. The pool at the Trop seemed amazing back in the day, of course now it would not even get noticed.
It's sad to say goodbye to the place. It has been here so long and holds so much of Las Vegas's old history. Thank you for the lovely video. Hope to see more videos from you, Jacob. Stay safe and take care.
Seeing Bob Newhart do standup. Also liked the Lobby area w/the constant live music and such. The smoke would just envelop you in those joints w/the low ceilings.
Stayed at Tropicana Sept 2019, visited from UK with my partner, my bro and his partner celebrating my 30th. Loved the place, the pool was awesome, swim up BJ. Sad to see it go
Thank you, as well, for including the Tropicana's tribute to its employees, and for you taking the time to include it in your video - you da man, Jacob !!!
I stayed at the Tropicana years ago 3 times I believe. I saw Ray Charles playing there as a lounge act (he was great). I’ve seen the “Follies” when it was a really amazing show on the strip. And, it’s the only time I ever saw a bedroom with bamboo furniture and a mirror on the ceiling. Also they used to have birds and other exotic animals all along the second floor walkway to the tower. So much history and great memories. Thanks for the revisit.
On the local news here in Las Vegas, each evening this past week, they have been featuring people who have either played at the Tropicana, or who had shows there like the guy who had the birds and the animals. It’s been a fun trip down memory lane.
Great video Jacob with some definite bittersweet moments. A relation of mine, who has now sadly passed away used to talk so lovingly about her fantastic holiday there. She always used to refer to it as 'Le Tropicana' but I've no idea why? We have always lovingly and jokingly referred to it as that, as a nod to her memory. Thank you for all the fantastic videos and content you do and hello 👋🏻 from England! ❤
Jacob, can't tell you how much I appreciated you making this video. You presented the Tropicana with nostalgia, respect, and tons of heart. Ending your video with the marquee is the perfect to honor this hotel that represented a bygone era.
Hi Jacob on our second visit to vegas ( we are from the uk) we stayed at the trop, we loved how bright and fresh it looked when compared to. NYNY AND MGM Going to miss the old girl Farewell and goodbye
Stayed at the Tropicana last 4 times when in vegas from the uk,stayed at other hotels on previous visits, but just loved the bright clean Tropicana, great hotel and pool, cant believe they are pulling down a iconic hotel for a ball park,so much space on the outsides of vegas it could go instead, good bye to the Tropicana thanks for the memories !
I stayed there for my birthday last May 2023 and I really really liked the place, everything everyone says about the place is true but you can feel the history of the place and I am definitely going to miss it. Remember; they don't make em like they used to
Wow, that ending made me surprisingly emotional. THOSE are the people who will really miss the Tropicana. They've spent a huge part of their lives there. I wish them well.
The Trop. used to have one of the best Coffee Shop's on the strip ! It was "The Calypso", then "The Garden Café" ! We always had our last meal there on our way to the airport ! You were always seated quickly, the prices were reasonable and the food was fantastic ! That's the only thing I'll miss about The Tropicana !
I was just in Vegas 3/20 to 3/23. Went by the Tropicana while riding the Duece bus. Sad to see it go. Never stayed there but walked through there a few times.
What a great farewell video. Tropicana saw better days, but it’s steeped in history and you did a great job capturing it. The tribute to the employees at the end was a very nice touch. Love your videos!
The best part about the Trop are the times I stayed there with my husband. We both always enjoyed staying there! And you're doing the right thing, Jacob, quit while you're ahead and thanks for this wonderful video 📹 and memories ❤️
Really great video. New sub earned! I'm from the UK and my girlfriend an I will be making our first ever trip together to Las Vegas in July. Sad this place will be gone on our arrival. I'm very much interested in old Vegas whilst she's more in tune with new Vegas so she's won out on the accommodation and we're staying at the Wynn. I'm looking forward to exploring the safer parts of Downtown when I do visit to see the architecture of times gone by as well as seeing all the new attractions on the strip.
I visited vagas from the UK in 2011 and stayed at the tropicana only for 1 night, the room in your video was exactly the same back then, found the staff to be very friendly and I like the hotel it was different being one of the older buildings on the strip. Sad to see it go.
I stayed at the Tropicana back in 2006. I used to go there when they had a poker room. It was an affordable old school place on the Strip. It will be missed.
I stayed at Tropicana more then any other place. I stayed in Island Tower and was able to look out at Airport also. Very cool after walking miles on the strip to sit and plane watch. Island Tower also was by pool and easy to get to pool from your room. Nice outside hottubs too. Will miss this place big time and wish I'd got one more stay there before it comes down :(
We were checking out the day you checked in, stayed 2 nights over the weekend for a VGK game and St. Patrick's Day. We decided to upgrade to a suite in the paradise Tower. Our room was massive, I think it was over 800 square feet which is not much smaller than my entire house! We had a corner room overlooking the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas boulevard so we had an amazing view of the MGM Grand, New York New York, and Excalibur. And our windows did open a little bit. Our key cards were actual fully white key cards. We spent a good deal of time exploring the pool area; we found a gate that was unlocked, so we went all over the pool area even though it said it was closed. We weren't supposed to be in there but what were they going to do? The only real issue we ran into was trying to find ice. I tried seven different floors in our tower looking for an ice machine that actually worked before I gave up. They also gave us like six bottles of water each day which was great, and our room had a wet bar with an empty fridge we could use. I'm so glad we got to stay there before she's gone. RIP Tropicana 😢😢😢
Great video. we were in town late last month and we did a quick walk thru to take some pictures before they close next month. Even though we never stayed at this hotel, it's sad to see it go. I hope they somehow save that stained glass canopy in the main casino area.
I stayed here a week after you filmed this video. My friend and I stayed in the Club Tower on the 19th floor. It was fun to have a room with the angled windows and be there only three days prior to closure. In that time, we saw more and more of the casino being shut down. It was quite a sight. I am so glad I had that experience as well as the Riviera prior to its closure. The old style casinos will be missed. This was a great video.
I wanted to get one more stay at Tropicana but can't get out there in time. Was able to do it before Stardust, The Riv closed up. Thanks for the memories!
Will be there on Sun. for three nights. Not sure what to expect, but I feel like I will be a part of Vegas history. I like your tribute to the long term employees.
This was my first trip to Vegas in 1981 and this is where we stayed. They had a room for me and my husband with TWIN beds. He immediately went down to the desk and told them we were not happy as we were not old enough to where we needed separate beds. I said the bedspreads looked like some I had pitched out a few years before. The front desk said they would send someone to our room to transport us to a much better room. It was great. One of the rooms with a balcony where you could see the pool. Been back there a few times since that and enjoyed every trip. I hate to see it being imploded on my birthday. I had wanted to drive up to be there for this but decided against it. Thanks for the video as it brings back such happy memories.
We still have a Tropicana ashtray on the bar in our basement. Mom and Dad went there in 67 with a Vegas league bowling league, north of Detroit. 🇺🇲 Sahara, Harrahs, Dunes, and Riviera, too.
Great vid! Still feeling sad about this closure four months later. The staff tribute was very class. I was there a couple days before you were. The trash bin in the pool area still hadn't been emptied when you did your walkthrough. Same big gulp cup there lol. Just a silly observation. But seriously, it was bittersweet walking through for the last time. There was a real nice woman working the cashier cage that was kind enough to give me and my brother each a deck of casino used cards after telling her how saddened we were by the closure. She said it wasn't much, but she hoped it was something we could enjoy. I was most grateful. Oddly enough, when I was videoing the pool area, there were people actually waiting for a small wedding. I didn't realize it immediately and was walking through the spot where the chairs and flowers were set up. I just thought they left em out since it wasn't gonna be used anymore. It wasn't til I was headed back inside I noticed the people coming out in formal wear. As much as the area was (understandably) left unattended with dried palm fronds on the ground and full bins, it surprised me to see anyone would be using the wedding area. I guessed maybe the ceremony was for a nostalgia thing or vow renewal. Also glad to know they saved the stained glass. Good memories there for me even though my first visit was only 11 years ago, but glad to have been able to go one last time.
My favorite memory is how peaceful and beautiful the Tropicana always was. What a sad time because of the loss of this place. The Tropicana was always a true representative of how Vegas was for so many years. I don't go to Vegas any longer. It has grown into a monster full of too much greed, noise, crime, and hedonism. I don't miss that city one bit. Great video Jacob.
My first time visiting my twin sister in vegas my mom took us to play slots at Tropicana.. my mom died 4 years ago. … so Tropicana from myself and probably millions of people who have been to your hotel and casino… THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES!… YOU WILL BE MISSED!
I'm glad I took the opportunity to finally use a comp offer at the Trop on my last trip in (December '22). There was nothing wrong with the room--decent size, clean, a little worn but hey, it was a comp, right? I always enjoyed the casino, even though it wasn't a particularly lucky one for me. I loved the stained glass ceiling, which made the table games area feel and look so bright. To all the employees--thank you for your years of service. I hope all of you who don't retire land on your feet at another property. I hope all of you can say with pride, "I worked at one of the great places in Vegas!"
Thank you so much for this stay. This brought a tear to my eye. We used to stay there all the time pre pandemic. The comps were great, free parking, big rooms and those cookies at check-in😋. They started trippin after the pandemic, no more comps, tight slots, charging for parking, so i threw in the towel. GOODBYE TROPICANA 😢
Thanks for the farewell video of the Tropicana. I have memories of doing a all night blackjack session under the stained glass ceiling. What a blast. I wish all the employees good luck in finding alternate employment. Nice to show them listed at the end of the video.
Great farewell video! My first time at Tropicana was '95 (brother got married there), then went to the Laugh Factory in '05. It sure has taken a downturn since then. Nice to get back about $20 from them for overcharging you for the room 😁 Great videos, thanks for sharing your last Trop. stay.
I love that you give a room review when there is less than 2 weeks left. (Though it is nice to know house keeping isn't phoning it in!) I didn't even think about how the table games would be closed but I guess that makes sense. You're going to have a lot of talented and trained dealers entering the job market and I'm sure a lot of them got picked up by other properties by now! Nice touch showing the sign at the end. I'll miss the trop. I got my first Vegas giveaway there (Free tickets to a magic show) I'm glad I was able to stop by there last September. It's a shame it will be closed by the time I get back to the city though.
I enjoyed the few stays I had there. It was an elegant place in its time. I kind’ve missed the places I stayed years back but the memories will remain. Vegas isn’t for me any longer. If those walls could talk!………… Thank you for sharing Jacob.
Great video... Tropicana had some great memories of me when I was studying in med school. The price was reasonable for a student.. I actually like that area of the strip.. Use to go to New York New York to eat lunch and dinner there, it was quite accesible
Who’s going to go to a baseball game when it’s 120° out sure it ain’t gonna be a dome. Tropicana is history for Las Vegas. It’s a beautiful motel. Why not just remodel it and keep it but I guess they’re making so much money they got money to burn. Wow.🎉
I am with you....I remember going to Vegas in 1960 when I was a kid. It was so cheap for a hotel room along with the food. So now you can enjoy a $200 steak meal and get ripped off. All the sparkle of Vegas is gone, greed rules now and I don't want any part of it.
