when it comes to only eng-kor translation, AI would replace humans in 10 years but if its also about the deep content for some specific field (film languages in this case), AI wouldnt be able to be enough. never forget, sharon choi is also a film maker, not just a great translator which is not her main job.

Just saw Parasite and was shocked by its ending. I also wondered who was the parasite(s)? The poor feeding off their rich employers or the lazy rich using the people whose time and talents they needed? It was thought-provoking and shocking and I saw it more as a class struggle than a generational comment--though I suppose each succeeding generation inherits its parents problems. Also enigmatic: how "having a plan" can be a two-edged sword. Thanks, Lyn for your interview with Bong Joon Ho and culling his perspective.

Why do I keep getting the feeling the interviewer was trying to paint a picture of Director Bong being raised by stereotypical asian tiger parents? Some of the questions sounded presumptive...like why did he assume his parents were not accepting of his passion for filmmaking? Or that he picked sociology because his parents wanted him to? His dad is a graphic designer for goodness' sake... not exactly a traditional career choice most stereotypical asians would make. Director Bong probably inherited his dad's creative genes.

If you had read my comment properly the first time, you would know it doesn't make sense to say the "interpreter" is being presumptive with the questions. I also referred to the interviewer as "he" the whole time. Just admit you made a mistake and didn't read my comment properly. Smh.

근데 부모님 직업이 무엇인지.. 이런거 대놓고 물어보는게 일반적인가? 봉감독이 어떤 가정 환경에서 자랐는지 혹은 그게 영화에 어떤 영향을 줬는지 궁금할수 있을거 같긴 해도....위키 보면 highly intellectual집안이라 써 있고 조금만 조사해 봤으면 미리 다 알았을텐데. 사회자가 사람이 무척 좋아보이고 봉감독 엄청 존경하는거 같긴 한데 웬지 저런 질문 대놓고 하는게...
Arabella Kim 일반인에게 다짜고짜로 부모님 직업이 뭐냐 묻는다면 물론 실례지만.. 봉준호 감독처럼 유명인에게는 어떤 환경에서 영화에 관심을 가지게 됐는지 물어보는 과정이라 괜찮다고 봅니다. 실제로 Wikipedia에 나오는 유명(영화)인들에 관해서는 어린 시절 성장배경 그리고 부모님의 이력에 대해서 쭉 나옵니다. 물론 본인이 밝히기 싫은 부분이었다면 공개하지 않았겠죠.
Cliff Curtis it’s not unusual. He’s understanding is on par but speaking wise is limited. That’s like me I can understand my ethnicity language fluently but have hard time speaking it back.
That's quite normal actually. Speaking and listening skills are different. A lot of 3rd generation immigrants speak English but not their mother tongue but can still understand if their grandparents speak to them in their mother tongue.

she looks presentable enough for me. that's the perk of her job. she gets up, brushes her teeth, does a little bit of her makeup and prepares to translate. she's not the focus of this. she looks fine and seems charming while doing her job. she doesn't need to be glamed up. in case you're still concerned: i'm sure for the oscars she will get some glam done just for the sake of the occasion
