Aw, brings back great memories of exactly a year ago, going up the same route of Mickledore and then to the Pike by myself. I remember looking and thinking about Lords Rake on the way up but to be honest, did not know the way there or even if I should attempt it solo, so just settled for the Pike. I always use Factor 50 (double coating on my shaved head) and a bandana is a life saver, as it absorbs all the sweat and stops it running into your eyes. I remember the 2017 video and this was even better, it looked a canny pull up Lords Rake and the additional scramble up the West Wall Traverse looked a challenge do, so very well done to all the team. Good to hear it is not only me huffing and puffing on a climb but like you, my recovery time is fast too and at 66, real grateful for that. That last bit was indeed well dodgy but worth it, if not just to me a great couple of FBOT watchers. Stunning views from the top and I loved the stone cross, brilliant, to have Scafell to yourselves and even better to see another couple of Geordie fans. The top of the Pike looed a mare but well done to Bert and what a way to finish with a swim in Wastwater, I bet that cooled the knees down! To get there last year, I was up at 02.50 and parked at 06.30, before having a 30 minute power nap and setting off up at 07.00 and I still never had the summit to myself! Cracking watch, really enjoyed every minute of it, cheers Alan

Thanks Alan, you would have no probs with the Rake or WWT mate. Just need it to be dry, some of it would be treacherous if wet and slippery due to erosion. Thanks for watching mate. BTW you would not need to ask me twice if you wanted a guide, I love it and no need to film it anymore.

Just to echo everyone else, thanks for another fantastic video. It looked a little hairy in places and not just on the belly! I've never managed to get to the top of Scafell Pike by any route, always far too many bodies for me. I choose Ill Crag & Broad Crag, the ugly sisters nobody wants to be seen with, almost as high (who's counting?), and all to yourself. I'm missing Dave.
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos 3 года назад
Lol His belly is growing at an alarming rate 🤣 Ill Crag and Broad Crag are wonderful Birkett noted fells and the views are better in my opinion and much quieter as you say Syd. The video was shot on a weekday out of school holidays, I dread to think what it will be like on a sunny sunday when the kids are off this summer. Winter only for me from now on.

That's a walk and a half Graham, not surprised you were knackered on the ascent from Foxes Tarn! I am curious about one thing though. When my mates and I went up on the same path as you, we managed to find the base of Lords Rake without having to go up to Mickledore first. So if you ever do it again ... Anyway, you have whetted my appetite for the West Wall Traverse. Cheers!
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos 2 года назад
Yes Michael your bang on with the direct route. We went to Mickledore because Bert had not done the scramble to it (Ended up at the top of it twice of course) and I enjoy it because of the drop to the base of the rake, a way Dave and Leanne had not done. However that was so worn it will be up the scree slope direct to the base in future. Thanks for watching our efforts, it is much appreciated Michael

Great video. Lots of excellent shots and plenty of information. Just how difficult is the traverse between scafell and scafell pike? I'm looking to start from Seathwaite (corridor route), but would love to get some views of wastwater!
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos 2 года назад
If you start from Seathwaite and do the corridor route (Which is a great route to the pike) A view of Wast Water would be a big ask in one day unless you drop and ascend Lingmell and walk to the western ridge. The Lords Rake and Traverse are usually done from Wasdale. If you were to come off the corridor route to Piers Gill and then walk towards Wast Water up Lords Rake, WW Traverse drop down foxes Tarn and back up to Mickledore, Scafell Pike and the return to Seathwaite... I think you will need good knee's and a head torch. Lords Rake and West Wall Traverse are not difficult in good conditions but does not run back between Scafell and Scafell Pike sadly it's really only done one way.
@fiazshah3838
@fiazshah3838 2 года назад
@@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos That seems a fair assessment. Thanks for the useful information. I think we'll leave scafel for another day, and plan the cracking route you and the team have taken. Scafell pike will do us just fine from Seathwaite me thinks. All the best.

@@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos Thanks for the quick response! I am flying over from America to do this exact route (as well as some other UK climbs) this week : ) Hoping it will still be climbable considering the weather, but I have one lingering question after studying the maps and videos: is it possible to bypass Broad Stand from Mickledore on our way to Scafell Pike? Considering the weather, ascending Broad Stand to the Pike is not a wise decision, but the maps of the Foxes Tarn route are inconsistent. Thanks!
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos Год назад
Broad Stand literally stands in the way of Sca Fell NOT Scafell Pike. As you ascend Mickledore from Wast Water side Scafell Pike is too the left on a straight easy path, Broad Stand and Sca Fell are to the right. Happy days 👍😊
@stephenreverski2390
@stephenreverski2390 Год назад
@@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos Gotcha, that would explain much of my confusion! So by ascending via Lord's Rake and WWT, I'll be bypassing Broad Stand. When we walk from Sca Fell to the Pike, we can either descend Broad Stand or bypass via descending Lord's Rake or Foxes Tarn. Is that accurate? Sorry to pester with questions, but much thanks for your quick responses!
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos Год назад
@@stephenreverski2390 Not a problem, happy to help. Yes it's Lords Rake and WWT to Sca Fell. It would be a brave man/woman/team to drop back down over Broad Stand where ropes and other climbing gear would be required (In my opinion). So again, in my opinion, the best and safest way to Scafell Pike would be as per our route, drop to foxes Tarn, drop to the Path, back up to Mickledore and the turn right (East) to Scafell Pike. This is all assuming you walk starts from Wasdale side.
