I recently created a puppet of a suit of armor (for stop motion animation) and so I wanted a clear protective coat. You were very correct, the clear spray made for this completely ruins the mirror finish. But I had success spraying several coats of Alclad II Lacquer Gloss Klear Kote ALC-310 over it. I had also used it in the past for a clear coat over Molotow chrome marker. I had total success with it in every way so, I highly recommend it. Thanks for the tutorial, I watched it numerous times before making my purchase, it was a great help.

I used this a lot when I was RC racing and it works great. The backer is nice keeps the paint in the body and helps the chrome pop a little more in my opinion. never sprayed it through a airbrush but loved the spray cans for what they are.

I’ve been using this on a helmet, and I’ve wasted about 4 cans, because I was trying to use different basecoats. I discovered that it was etching any paint that isn’t spazstix. I tried their black backer but I could only get it for my airbrush but the result was absolutely terrible. I discovered that it’s incredible over a water based polyurethane gloss and over resin. I also accidentally discovered a gold basecoat sealed with urethane or resin gave me a nice reflective gold. Unfortunately I can’t get any spazstix in Australia right now so I can’t progress on my project. But I watch your videos religiously thank you so much. Your channel is my 1 stop shop!

I would have expected to bring out the alclad spoons into the frame for comparison. Also you were talking about topcoating these and I was thinking on maybe use that Aqua Gloss from Alclad that is recommended for their chromes? Thanks for the upload anyways, top content as always.

Used to use Spaz Stix chrome paint when painting my R/C cars. They made it for clear lean bodies and for normal plastics back in the mid 2000’s

Would have been great to see comparisons with others chromes - Alclad, Molotow, even Spax Stix through an airbrush. I'd also be curious to see how those other paints perform on the clear trays as you did here.

The clear tray you backed with black looked bad while you were spraying the chrome. Could you try using the black on the back of the good tray to see how it turns our? Yet another excellent video. Clear information and understandable.

Was wondering if the plastic trays had residual mold separator that could interfere with the painting?

I would have liked to see what the black on the back of the tray and the mirror paint sprayed on the inside looked like I know spraying the inside would create blow back towards you but it would have been shinier and more mirror like.

I have a gorgeous 76 Eldorado convertible with 48K that needs the mirror and door handle attention. For the age of the car and being original, they would be considered in great shape. However, I have watched your videos many times and would like to ask a question. Would you recommend this paint for side mirrors and door handles that are already chrome just very faded and has some pitting? Of course, the pitting would have to be drilled and filled "like a filling for a tooth". From what I can see from your "very well done" videos is that the finish on a plastic spoon would be acceptable to me on my vintage Cadillac. Clearly, you know so much more about this than I do. I do have the impossible to get plastic chrome wraps that go around the bumper extension that is product would work great for. I have looked for "NOS" new old stock parts and I am unable to find them. If I do the price would scare you into thinking you have sisters. Thanks for your vids as I am SURE they have saved me a ton of time and the possibility of destroying an original part that can not be replaced.

...backninbthe early 70s there was a specialized paint for aircraft model builders that was sold through Archer's Hobby World in Tustin, CA.. I bought one of each..forget what the paints were called...but they were similar to these.. eventually Testors bought them

It's a awesome paint, I use it as a base coat for candy apple paints, the trick to keeping chrome look, I use clear floor wax, after ward you can clear coat it or add candy apple colors giving a really kewl anodized look without killing the chrome effect...

Every chrome effect I have ever dealt with, always needed a non solvent bases clear. In other words, water based clear. Any solvant will instantly turn the "chrome" to look like a regular silver base coat. Put a coat or 2 of water based clear, or even a zero voc epoxy over the part first. Allow to dry. Give it a scuff and apply the solvant based clear of your choice.

can you show us this with the best clear coat on top, also how to tint it to a colored chrome?

You should do a test of the BLK3.0 paint as a black base,then paint the Spaz Stix over it;and show what the results are.

I’m looking at getting an air brush booth. Masters portable air brush booth from Amazon. My concern is that it’s black. What are your thoughts. It has three LED lights, middle and front on each side and duel fans. Wondering if it would be to dark.

I just realized that this is a local company for me. They are primarily into RC cars, so that’s why they came out so well on the plastic trays.

Interesting, they sell an airbrush ready version of this stuff. It seems quite durable too, what would be the best chrome paint from your perspective? Molotow has been good to be since it doesn't require a black base, and alcad chrome is not bad but rubs off very easily

Can this product be sprayed on alloy wheels? And if so would you recommend it do you think it's durable enough.

Would you recommend using this to chrome the insides of my tail lights?

I used the Spax Stix chrome on the bare plastic of a RG Sinanju and even without a black gloss coat it came out good. I think as long as the surface is gloss, it will get a chrome finish as long as you control the paint coverage. I then sprayed it with Tamiya's clear red and while it gave a super nice finish it was just not durable as I had hoped. Masking tape and stickers will pull off the clear red and it scratches really easily.

I noticed you didn't use primer, does it need primer if I am using it to paint my wheels and secondly how long do I have to wait for the black backer paint to dry before I can spray the chrome?

Can this work on 3 to 4 coat for mirror chrome rather than having black coat for first coat?

You need about 4 coats of chrome letting them dry completely in between. And then lay down the black and the results are perfect. That transparency you got using one coat is what you should be trying to avoid.

What great chrome results. Would a thin transparent yellow over the chrome give a gold effect?

It looks like a very good end result. But I have a doubt. Does it stand up to high temperatures. I intend to apply it to the headlight reflectors.

spray the chrome on the inside of the tray only, then apply the black over the top of the chrome, again on the inside of the tray only. Similar to how you would paint an RC body/shell.. then the underside/outside of the tray should be nearly a perfect mirror. If you want the mirror on the inside, just apply the chrome on the underside and then back that with black (leaving the inside clean).. then the inside should be a nearly perfect mirror.

Have you tried the Createx Colors water based UVLS High Gloss Clear over any/all worthy chrome paints yet?

I tried it but it looks nothing like this just looks silver with minimal mirror look😒 but I have been painting it outside it's like 40 degrees not sure if that plays a role

Morning, Chris here......this chrome paint is impressive stuff!!!! If I want to use this for chrome bumpers, side view mirrors & door handles on 1/24-1/25 scale plastic model car kits, what would you suggest as far as what application would be the best? Normally, I use Rust-Oleum bright coat chrome in the spray can. I de-chrome the kit chrome first, I spray Rust-Oleum flat black 2X primer from the spray can first, let it cure & then spray the chrome paint on & I let it cure for a week just to be safe. This seems a bit brighter to me.......what would you suggest I try with this paint as far as application????? Any help is much appreciated....thanks ever so much!!!!!!!

Don’t get the ultimate black backer 10200 for airbrush. Stuff doesn’t gloss up unless you hose it on.

If it work that well on cheap plastic trays I wonder how good it look on glass.

So it needs something that has already highly glossy background in order for it to look like a mirror or chrome finish. Understood.
