There are wipers on the front windshield (just 1). There are soft half doors (a la Jeep, black fabric). They are still working on hard half, may have some prototypes soon. Saw a prototype full soft with plastic window (a la Jeep) but that appeared to be not far along.

amazing work. so sad that this company was not better supported by the government. to get anything done in the US is ridiculously hard with how the auto industry has just created massive barriers to entry. I wish there were a way arcimoto could open-source their vehicle. I can imagine this being done so affordably in other countries.

Great discussion on the most important issue facing FUV right now. They should be shooting for a 6 month ramp to early adopters to get as many advocates as possible on the road and talking about this totally new mobility segment. This will grow the backlog faster than anything. If suppliers are holding them back, they need to look at pulling parts in-house. Positive gross margin in 6 months sounds good. They need to know now if franchise or own the rental is the right way to go. If they go with existing rental outlet, they should quickly move to owning and operating. They should satisfy the backlog immediately. That should be the priority. That way they can fund the production of 10s of thousands a year in 2 years and double again in another year with new regional factories. What is the capacity of the factory today “the machine that builds the machine?” They need to innovate on form factor and vehicle/drivetrain/battery production. If Tesla makes sense I would encourage them to get on that now for their next gen factory.
@aussie_al

Your comment is spot on. Could you imagine if Elon was to jump on board and this company could ramp a lot faster than they are currently. It is a very exciting little beast but i feel they obviosly need some intervention on the manufacturing side quickly cause they're current production rate could bite them big time. Really love the concept and the design is outrageous. Thanks for the video

Yeeeeess, 2170s, 150 miles range. The fleet I work for drives on average between 75 and 175 miles per shift. If the Rapid Responder had a real-world usable range of 150 miles, with use of lights and charging of electronic communications equipment and so forth, that would be a solid step in the right direction.

After spending time in European cities and looking at the adoption of smaller cars, scooters and motorbikes I think this vehicle would really do well as a small all weather EV alternative in those cities where the populace moved to smaller footprint commuters some time back. The fact that it would be less expensive to operate (their gas prices are horrendous) just makes the business case stronger.

Galil 2 questions for you, first I haven't seen much mentioned about safety; I suspect many potential users will want to know how safe it is to drive - many wouldn't let their children have a motorbike so why would they let them have an Arcimoto - roll cage, seatbelts etc but do you have any concrete figures from testing? Second, what potential is there for autonomy with Arcimoto, the great thing about a Tesla is it will drive me to work safely soon - that's worth more than saving a few minutes commute time having a small vehicle that can weave through traffic! Great show, by the way, keep it up, cheers.

I'm a shareholder and a preorderer. But I won't be buying until they get the full doors. I'll probably also hold out for the longer range. I'm also hoping they can get my state to classify the arcimoto as not needing a motorcycle license. In any case, in addition to no rebates in my state or by the federal government, my state, like many others, is actually charging more for electric vehicle registration in order to make up for lost gasoline taxes. So, far from supporting planet-saving ideas like Arcimoto, a lot of state governments are penalizing them. How backward is that?

It is clear that using a vehicle that seats 5 to transport only 1 or 2 is flawed. However, the big waste in the equation is not only the number of seats but also the number of feet needed between the vehicles. For that reason, mass transit is the bigger win. What is needed is a shift in the mind set. I admit that I rely on a small vehicle and don't use mass transit.

Have been tempted to buy stock but, I have yet to see a three wheeled vehicle do well in the transportation market. It may work for the rental market but, as far as mass popular appeal I don't think so. Since it is an open vehicle I would place it in the motorcycle category which has been dropping in sales in recent years. Even inclosed three wheel vehicles have not made it. It may find its own niche but just not wide appeal. In the motorcycle, world you just don't see very many trikes out there.
@YeeLeeHaw
@YeeLeeHaw 4 года назад
I think we will start to see a big shift in the market the upcoming years. Tesla seem to be really close to full self driving (closer than most are ready for) that will stir up the market like no other, the road safety data will speak for itself and soon people may not be allowed to drive their cars in certain areas; and here's where Arcimoto and motorcycles comes in, they will be a safe heaven for people looking to drive on their own. People also start to become much more aware of the environment and the more that ditch their car habit, the bigger the market will become for alternative transport. There's also potentially a huge market in countries like India and Vietnam for example that will seek to go away from their polluting motorcycles and Tuk Tuk's. I'm still fairly skeptical since this market is so brutal to startups, but the more I hear Mark talk, the more optimistic I become, and the environmental awareness has had an unexpected big upswing since that Swedish kid Greta started to speak about it; something I would have never predicted, but that's why this field can change so fast; it can all of the sudden move into a different gear by just a few incidents and movements happening at the same time.
@BTSgigafactory

@@YeeLeeHaw The problem is the price. For markets like India and Vietnam the price is way too high. Tuk Tuk are popular because they are very cheap.
@YeeLeeHaw

@@BTSgigafactory The price will go down, as with almost all new products it's going to be high in the beginning. Also not everyone is poor in these parts of the world anymore and we can't underestimate the massive problems they have with pollution, and it can change over just a few years due to a blooming market/industry. We have to look at the long term, we can't judge Arcimoto after they've just released their first product; hopefully they will survive the initial phase because we do see a steady change in the EV market and someone is going to ride the wave.

LV 5 AI taxi is coming. Answer this question. Why would Tesla sell a single vehicle to the public after that moment? Instantly the value of the vehicle skyrockets as an AI taxi so you aren't going to sell one for under $150,000. The very idea of ICE, dealerships, sales to the public ends and ends fast. Great comment - and my thoughts exactly. FSD is the next MAJOR disruption, and any vehicle operated by a live person will rapidly become history. Tesla will stop selling cars to people - it's a logistical nightmare at the best of times - and why sell the car when the REAL value is in driverless ride-hire/ride-share.
@danielrichards9138
@danielrichards9138 4 года назад
Not selling to the public will not happen for a long time since the majority of the population like individual ownership and very rural areas would be extremely difficult to setup ridesharing simply by virtue of the sheer size of the areas. It will start by allowing owners to support the rideshare services through autonomy usage and profit share.
@dwolff4127
@dwolff4127 4 года назад
@@danielrichards9138 Did you just make the case that business CARES about what the public wants over making money...mountains of money? That there is simply no market for 25 cents a mile transport (company cost bottom line with understanding that 12 MPG is ALREADY equal to 25 cents a mile cost?). Anything over 25 cents is profit. In residential driving an ICE car you can count on 50 cents a mile lifetime for a Toyota Camry and it only goes up from there. This disruption won't care about psychological feelings of anxiety over transition. It will care about money. People will choose whichever option is financially best for them and of course rural is the LEAST financially viable option for profit. Why will this stop companies from focusing on the gold rush of city AI fleets? I'm not confused about the saturation of AI LV 5 with the short term impact on the old business model. One will take well over a decade. The other a few years.

I personally think it's a very niche market. The reason Tesla is succeeding is not because their cars are electric, but rather because their cars are superior to others in so many ways. That's how you make a mass market vehicle. Hey Gali, no offense whatsoever, but you're looking at the mobility issue with such a north-american perspective. I believe you are correct in that cars are likely to be on the decline and that there are much smarter approaches to mobility (especially urban mobility, but it's also true in general with inter-city and long distance traveling) than that based on cars and airplanes. It's been right there and available for hundreds of years already though: trains and tramways, in other words, shared, mostly public (to limit useless redundancy), transportation. The combination of America being at the pinnacle of individualism and large-scale pro-car & pro-asphalt propaganda fueled by lobbies since I believe the 1950's or so has lead to this ridiculous 3rd world level type traffic efficiency in large American cities. If you check out Switzerland for instance, where a very large number of people use regional, inter-city & international trains and public transportation in general (whether it's S-bahn, trams or buses as well), things are pretty different. I literally never use a car there. In the winter, if you commute, you'll find people with skis and snowboards next to you because even ski resorts are so well connected that you can just go skiing all day and be back home for supper, without using a car. To me, the big picture issue is not related to cars or the type of vehicle itself (although these can help mitigating the effects), but to the continuation of a trend that's been going on for decades: the concentration of people in massive cities and areas that can't scale. No amount of tunnels or scooters is going to fix this problem as long as we keep concentrating. At the end of the day, you can only fit so many people in one single spot. It's like the distributed vs mainframe paradigm in computing (or horizontal vs vertical scalability). I guess my point is, all of these different types of vehicles, including arcimoto's are each a good and potentially useful tool fitting different use cases. But I think you're wrong in believing that you'll solve LA traffic by adding smaller vehicles in larger quantities. You're just buying a little bit of time at best and kicking the can down the road. Go check out what Amsterdam looks like with friggin' bikes E-V-E-R-Y W-H-E-R-E. Amsterdam's problem is too many people go there at the same time. No amount of bikes is going to fix that, it's just actually making things worse at this point, as you can't even walk around freely as a pedestrian anymore. Bikes take up the entire space on the street, both the parked and moving ones. IMO, the solution is decentralization + effective shared transportation. And then individual vehicles (ideally implemented as a pool / shared fleet as well) for last mile type situations, isolated/exotic destinations, and other such "edge" cases.

Agree with much of what you say but most of America is urban. I'm 15 miles from a small town so I'd have to take an uber to catch the train, then take another urber to get to my friends house. My town has 9 stoplights. No one will pay millions of $$ to put a train here. The other 4 closest towns are about 10 miles apart and have 4-5 stoplights. They won't get trains either. They can't afford buses. We finally got buses a few years ago but only used in the town. The buses usually only have 2-3 people on them. The population here is so thin you can't justify investment in trains. We don't even get gas, water or sewer from the town so we have to do that ourselves and a volunteer fire Department. We only got cable TV 20 years ago. In most of the US there are less than 10 people per sq. mile so if those people are willing to walk 1/4 mile to get a bus or train imagine how many trains and buses it would take for public transportation to work. @@nunya___ Hi Nunya, I don't think the urban lifestyle is a problem, it's the extreme, hyper-concentration and centralization in few "select" cities which are each geared toward particular purposes (whether it's tech, show business, manufacturing..). As a French person I feel I know what I'm talking about when it comes to centralization (thanks Napoleon! not.). You can easily and directly travel to Paris from just about anywhere in the country, but circling around the country, say from Bordeaux to Strasbourg, is a pain in the ass and in many cases, it necessarily involves going through Paris itself. There are few meaningful hubs other than Paris. Now, there are obvious advantages to centralization but at the end of the day it's a simplistic, very limited and so, super "lazy" model. Put everything in one place and let tenants, investors and the free market sort if out. Well, it just doesn't work anymore. As far as your specific use case, I think your example fits in the "isolated destination" type example I mentioned. Although small towns can be well connected, I think you're correct in that small town to small town connections can't and won't ever be as good (doesn't make sense for a number of reasons). This usually involves buses with lower frequencies. But the good news is traffic from small town to small town usually isn't bad at all, so I don't see the problem in using a fleet-based individual means of transportation in that situation (car or arcimoto FUV or w.e works for you at that particular moment). I believe this type of transportation will eventually become a commodity and as long as you have a job in that town (that's another, key topic), you should be just fine visiting friends anywhere in your area. Although if I go back to the Swiss example, honestly in practice, when you're not disconnected from cultural hubs, people tend to go out a lot more and meet directly there and it's super easy to get there by public transportation. But I'm not going to suggest not to visit your friends at their houses anymore, of course :)

Tesla should never lend it's name to the likes of that shitty company uber WTF it would mean direct harm to the company ,why cause uber sucks! I always take cabs never uber. Cabbies were here first and uber for some reason is exempt from cabby laws which is a double standard at best!

I saw or heard somewhere that there have been 3k sexual assaults in the US this year by Uber drivers. Also a very large number of drivers caught who weren't registered Uber drivers. so much for their thorough screening. There a joke and its no wonder the share price has taken such a huge dive
