A huge THANK YOU for making this video. It is Sunday evening and I had to search to find the video. I had those sharp pains since Thursday evening. I went to a walk in clinic Friday evening, they knew nothing. Saturday I went to purchase some pain killers and sinus meds thinking that may have been it, nope. I woke up this morning and researched again and found this video. I gave it a try, a couple of times. The pain seemed like it didn't want to stop. I did fall asleep again. When I woke up, and began moving about, I noticed an hour, couple of hours, half a day, and then tonight NO PAIN!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! May God bless you for sharing this simple step that works!

Like the others who posted I had a hard time getting answers for this problem. And pain killers don’t help! I’m doing the massage. This is the only vid I found that accurately described how I experience it.

Nope! Not "discomfort", just actual pain, pure & simple. Pain. Jabbing, stabbing, jolting, sudden, shocking, hurts like a sob pain.

Thanks for the video! I have caught myself doing exactly what you are showing, reaching over the head and pulling up on the scalp over the ear. I sometimes have situations where my muscles of the skull will tighten up so bad, like when you try and wiggle your ears, that my ear is stuck in a lifted position and I have to put in a cognitive effort to get the muscles to release. Hoping I am on the path to figuring out the root cause.

i recently was diagnosed with occipital neuralgia, and i’ve been having slight “electric shocks” since my concussion in 2017. When i had my son in sept 2020, i noticed my scalp had a burning or tightening feeling that hurts so bad, within the last 2 weeks i’ve had a stiff neck which is another sign on it. working on treatments now!! ☺️

I’m in my 30s. Suffering this at the moment. I get it on and off maybe 5 times a year. Bloody painful!! It’s like an electric ⚡️ bolt ZAP. Sometimes pain behind my ear or eye also but mostly the zap on the scalp. It’s about 3” up and back from my left ear. @@luffysantiago8166 yes , nothing really helps it. A hot water bottle under a towel had some affect. I work in construction and I think now and again I’m pulling a muscle that’s setting it off. I only get this about 7 times a year. But it’s a pain when I do.

I am having the same thing. Started 4 days ago. Feels like a hot ice pick over my ear, left side of head. Three days later, the pain has moved below my ear in the neck area. Doctor gave me anti-inflammatories and I’ve also been taking two Tylenol extra strength to relieve the pain. Also went for physio because the muscles in my neck are very tight. Physiotherapist said it’s to do with nerves in my neck. I have had three incidents, one in 2017, another in 2021 and another this week. They started months after I was rear-ended in a car accident and suffered soft tissue whiplash. My doctor told me that if it happens again, he’ll arrange for a Cat Scan and bloodwork. I’m in my 70’s and I think he’s concerned about strokes, which I’ve never had. I feel for all going through this because this is the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, next to birth pain. I will definitely try this.

I got this on the side I was numbed up from the dentist this occurred right after. It finally dissipated after I went to the chiropractor. Thank goodness that was painful and now I’m terrified to go back to the dentist

Does anyone describe it as an itch? I guess it could also feel like a bee sting, that I scratch. It's been going on for several months and I've lost a lot of hair. I may be jumping ahead of myself, but tonight each time it starts, I message my head instead of scratching. I hope it works. If it does, all I can say is thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the top of my head. Btw, I have Dermatomyositis, first signs of this disease, 11 years ago was this intense itch. So I'm wondering if anyone else who has this, has any other immune disease or arthritis? Thanks again

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this technique in the video. I do have a question though. I have been diagnosed for the past 3 years with Occipital Neuralgia and Trigeminal Neuralgia. I take medication to cope with the daily pain. I tried to do these exercises as my scalp does not move at all. I can't stand for anyone to touch my head because of the pain. It is 24/7 and 365 for me. All the time I feel like my head is simultaneously on fire and being electrocuted. Is there any sort of workaround that can be done in this situation? Even the slightest breeze on my scalp is excruciating. Thank you.

I’m praying that your head gets better. I been having tingling and numbness on my scalp for the last 6-7 days and it’s annoying not painful I think it’s stress and anxiety induced because I was stressed out about other health issues a week before I started getting them. 3:06 I’m so glad you explained it the way you did. I was trying to tell my doctor that it felt like it was dry under my skin or something. Like when I move my head, my nerves aren’t moving normal like in a slug or something. I didn’t know how to describe it 😂. I’m gonna have to remember this for my next visit. Even the center bone area felt weird, but I didn’t know it was a bone. Ps. This hurts when I do it. It hurts when I shampoo and the pain sensation lasts for hours. How long until it starts not to hurt, typically?

I don't know if this is Occipital Neuralgia but I am experiencing the same symptoms. I had it when I was driving (with an anxiety) and got soaked from the rain and I experienced this sensation in my shoulder, neck, sculp and head and it's giving me a hard time sleeping. 😔 It has been 5 days.

Mine is everywhere. I went to two neurologists and one internist. The internist checks blood test and confined no diabetes and normal Vitamin D. And recommend me to the neurologist in the same hospital. He ordered and MRI for lumbar check up and confirmed no herniated disk and guessed it might be peripheral neuropathy. He prescribe me Gabapentin, Vitamin B supplements and Melexicam. I took it but no change. I have went to another neurologists when I see a new symptom a chronic headache with tingling on my scalp. He ordered Brain MRI but the result shows everything is normal. Please I need your help. My symptoms are: Head tingling on the scalp Severe knee joint pain on both sides Pain on my hip both sides Tingling and numbness on my hand, palm, and finger tip Tingling and numbness on my calf, leg, foot and toe

Is there something that causes those shocks not to stop? I hit my head at the top center of my head and its been almost 11 12 years and it's sensitive to touch and painful like all those years ago. Nothing showed up in the MRIs. Neurologist is a dud. So idk how to get to the bottom of it.

Get a big or small towel fold it and put it behind your head get both ends of the towel put your chin on your chedt and pull/hold the end of towel count 20 seconds and the keep holding/pull the towel tight pressure will release. Do the pulling left and right but remember towel on back of head!

you need to do neck strecthes. I have lived with this hideous disorder for 30 years. I wasn't till recent I found about neck strechtes. Check our Dr Mandell. I have experienced this also and in fact some call these type of headaches ice pick headaches because it literally feels like someone is stabbing you in the head then the pain instantly goes away. I just used this technique and it really worked. I also used peppermint oil to massage on the area of my scalp to help with the soreness of my scalp that was left from the stabbing/electric shock pain. Never thought of a solution so basic like this. I've only been able to diagnose this just recently. Never thought of it as an "issue". But this is an actual medical condition that really makes your life more stressful without even knowing. I massaged my scalp just now for the first time. I am not stressed at all and I get these episodes of 'electrical shock'. I also have other nerve issues and sometimes I get nerve pain down my leg. I probably have a tendency towards spinal stenosis... inherited. It's not stress that brings it on.

You sir are a blessing. Every symptom you have talked about I have. Even the awesome people commenting have some of the same symptoms. I've done chiropractic treatments that helped a lot. However the tight pain in my temple areas coupled with the tightness and tingling in the back and top of my head make even the easiest chores very difficult. I've experienced the brain zaps numerous times, but mostly while looking at my cellphone, or laptop. The zaps will usually leave me dizzy for a good amount of time. I won't bother you with the rest of symptoms. Just wanted to say thank you for validating everything I've been feeling. All of this started for me with a concussion I suffered last July. Let me tell you this shit is all too painful when it comes on. The pain zap in intense as hell! Its on the left and on the right sometimes. I also grind my teeth at night so I'm sure it plays a role. Everybody in the comments I feel your pain. But having it also makes my nervousness come down for some reason. And it would be the small things that trigger it. Swallowing, slight head turn, saying a few words etc. Writing this damn comment lol. Much love to everybody going thru it

Same here... swallowing which causes a small pain in the inner ear area. I thought maybe it was a dental issue but now believe it to be neuralgia.

It started with burning pain on my scalp about a week ago. There's no redness so I anticipated it was EMP or other environmental effects. I sustained a serious life-threatening head injury from being hit head-on by a 20 ton truck. Yet there is more, and I can't even begin to explain. What you're doing as a massage is exactly what I've been doing, just a natural reaction because my father used to "scratch his head" I feel a lot of throbbing today but nothing in my neck, nor is it swollen. I've had those symptoms before but my chiropractor in Minnesota took care of it. Here in Connecticut, 85% of the medical and dental industry FIRST decide if you're on the politicians' $hitlist and treat you accordingly, to passify these scumbag politicians. So I see a doc in NYC and it's been much, much better. I used a cold pack, not ice - but a gelpak I keep in the refrigerator. That brings a relief but there's still burning and itching. I will contact my doctor's office again tomorrow. Thank you. I just found your channel by chance but I'm subscribing.

Yes, once you know something to call it, you will find there is a lot of info out there to look into. For years, I called/thought of it as "scalp spasms", as that's what the pain seemed to be. Over & over for varied time periods, then poof, it would be gone - but always came back. Now I'm knowing what it's called, but keep trying multiple remedies to use next time, next time, next...

Hey I suffered an tbi injury 3 years ago and had concussion and fatigue and poor memory with day to day tasks. I experienced nerve pain in my scalp and burning pain on my arms and legs and head. I guess this is something to do with the fascia tissues where the nerves are and I’ve massaged this technique and it’s help reduce to burning sensation to my body. Yes it’s like an constant electric Field all over the head and scalp. Tingling and numbness but if I keep working on my scalp it may help improve blood circulation and repair my injury slowly ❤

I get this maybe once a year, it doesn't feel like electric, it feels like a hot poker sticking in the back of my skull, it throbs for two seconds every few minutes. I was told there's a seizure medication they can prescribe for this. I'm afraid to take the medication. I'm not sure if what you're saying has something to do with the tissue and fascia because people the this on their legs, arms and other places of the body, I know I have.

I’ve been suffering from this severely (the scalp pain) for a month. I’ve been diagnosed with occipital neuralgia for two years but it never made scalp burn like this. I am going to start this massage today and hope it helps. No medication has helped this scalp pain. Injections help the ON pain, but not the scalp pain.

Similar experience... what I was told about nerves is that no two people have an exact replica of sensation...but maybe in the ballpark. I pray that you have permanent relief soon. Tried accupuncture?

Thank you I so appreciate this. I've had a lot of anxiety lately since my brain injury. Played with a few pressure points starting a few days ago and got this sudden “flow” feeling up the top/right side of my head. It was like blood was flowing there for the first time in a while. That flow feeling has since moved to other areas of my scalp and usually starts with applying pressure in places. Then this morning I woke up and had that shock feeling up the top/right side of my scalp. Scared the crap out of me. The right side of my forehead/eye has been a little numb/tingly all day. I also could not figure it out but I had stiff muscles shoulders and neck. and I had sinus inflammation. also had numbness from around my head but especially forehead. but I had sinus infections. probably got stiff muscles from that. is problem. every case. feeling of irritation almost numb and stabbing muscle groups that went into my head. stings. try to raise and lower your eyebrows if you notice tight feeling around your head your muscles can still be tight I felt that pulling sensation with me sleep left and right but also pulling my forehead above and behind my head when my eyebrows went up. do not worry otherwise check if you have a cold. I didn't quite get it with my sinus infection. it is mountain misery. good luck ps can also record temperature change at the muscles where it may have been stiff. I think it is because muscles and nerves go together from there.

Great advice, Dr! I'm up all night because of shocking jolt of sharp pain at the top left of my skull which definitely feels like nerve pain. I'm going to try your technique tonight and hopefully be able to keep it at bay enough to sleep. I'll also book an appointment somewhere for pro massage focused on my scalp. In case it doesn't relieve the pain or if it comes back worse, are you still in Colorado (spotted the flag behind ya)? My husband and I will drive to your office so I can get relief if you're not in our town. This debilitating pain occurs for days at a time every few months.
