So i've been asked a few times by people interested in SCANIA's what's the difference between the G-Series & R-Series.? So i decided ok let's shoot a video and show you all side by side exactly how they differ from each other.
I also have a surprise piece of content in this video!! Where i visit a secret location, to look around what has to be Ireland's biggest privately owned collection of model trucks. You will be amazed at what you see.

Basically the difference between the P, G, R, and S is just floor height - two, three, four or five steps. Pretty much all of the exterior and interior options are available for all four, except for a few that are specific to V8-powered R- and S-series trucks, like the 8x4 and 10x4 chassis options. You can even get any of them with the XT package. The exception is the crew cab, which only comes with the flat roof.

@@omursaraslan6316 Not directly from Scania, no. The biggest engine for the G-series is the 540-hp inline 6. That doesn't mean it absolutely can't be done, but it requires some serious custom work. There's a couple of companies in the Netherlands that have 5- and 6-axle Scania tractors with flat-roof P-cabs and V8 engines. They had to move most of the engine cooling to the equipment tower behind the cab in order to squeeze the engine in under the cab though. Presumably you'd need a similar solution for a G-cab.

@@pzindy7673 Google "Scania Configurator", and the top result will be Scania's own web app for customizing your own Scania truck. It'll let you play around with *most* of the options that Scania offer for their trucks, with a preview function to tell you what it'll look like. The major things that are missing from the configurator are the 8x4 and 10x4 chassis. Also, I must admit I was mistaken about the "V8 under a Scania G or P cab" thing - turns out the ones I'd seen were still inline 6 engines. (Those, I found by looking for images of Scania 10x4 and 12x4 trucks).

So I'm guessing the G model would be for city and local runs and the R and S models would be for long distance. Bit like the volvo FH and FM trucks

Yeah basically. The different series are just of different floor height mainly. Those little bits are customiseable I'd imagine. R & S series are more designed for long distance. So I'd imagine that they specced the R for long haul and G for less long distance. They also made the XT verison of G series, a bit like Volvo's FMX.

I would believe that the painted accessories is just an option for both series, and I think that the main difference between the G-series and the R-series is the floor height

Floor height is the only difference, i.e. how low the cab sits on the chassis. Everything else is just how you spec it. So you can have a P450 highline with all the spots and bells and whistles.... Or an S450 low roof in basic spec.

I drove a G-serie this week at the local drivingschool! Together with an instructor I drove for 2 hours on the public road. I don't have a driverlicense for trucks, but it was a lesson for the fun! I had a great time driving this beautifull big Scania truck!

Most differences pointed out is actually down to your specification. When you order your truck you decide what lights, trim, equipment and paint you want. The decision to order a G instead of an R, S, L or P has to do with what you're hauling and how far.

Hi Stavros, another great video but only thing that gets me is your comparing a high roof R to a normal G but they do a high roof G with the same size overhead lockers as the R, On another note the orange coupling light is just a option the owner has ticked, along with the painted wings, If you wanted to see how they really would be from factory you need to look @ what Scania give you as a rental unit, most of them are normal cab R with no visor, no roof spots & plastic bumpers skirts & wings

@@stavros969 I think it would be a tough choice between a normal R & high roof G as the highier floor & lack of extra drawer would be out weighed by the larger top lockers, I drive a normal R & I must admit the over head lockers arent big enough, I can just about get a kettle stood up in the middle 1, whereas if you got a high roof G you could go for the kitchen pack option & have microwave etc, I also think the fridges are same size in Ltrs just the R is tall & thin whereas the G is shallow & wide

Nice collection. One little side story about the current Volvo FH is that the first pictures of it that were revealed were actually taken of the model truck, not the real truck.

Great video! One thing though: 10:31 is not a SINO truck. It's the Chinese version Hino produced by a joint venture of Hino and GAC group. And it has the chinese six axle config! It's no longer popular anymore.

Both comes with satnav, its an option. The cab comes in normal and high with both, it,s all about what you order. They are pretty similar engine tunnel aside.

I have been the owner of 4 scans in my life, R142m, R143 m and R500. early this year I got to drive my friend Brand new R500 in New Zealand 6X4 pulling a 5 axel trailer at 55 ton for 6 weeks. I have always been pro Scania all of my life. I was very impressed with electronics, cab lay out for the driver as the drive line of the truck. However I am going to be honest and say Scania in my opinion, have let them selfs down in so many ways with the cabin its self and its fitting. Doors not closing properly and sever wind leak. the lightness of the doors when closing them. plastics in the cab being so very this especially around the steering column and doors, and not fitting very well. the horrible plastic sun visors. the side hatch doors as so this and flimsy. Scania cabs are not as they use to be.
