Great video! I get emotional thinking about the Line 3 RT. A lot of memories. Great update on the Scarborough Subway Extension. My guess would be that tunneling would be past Lawrence. Looking forward to the Ontario Line updates.
It still blows my mind that the entire Line 3 had to be shut down... they have the stations and the track right of way (including some bridges + tunnels). Even if you have to rip up the tracks and replace them with new trains, doesn't that make more sense than to remove an entire transit line?
A surface network would have been so much faster and cheaper to build. I hope they can extend the Sheppard Line east to STC via Agincourt GO in the near future to create the completion of a network. It needn’t be fully bored - or even mostly. There is adequate room on Sheppard to support an elevated guideway - this is especially so if they run lighter high floor trains, a la REM. I don’t know how much work a retrofit to accommodate different rolling stock would take but I imagine the overall cost would be way less than having to bore a heavy rail tunnel across Scarborough - again.
Uh Line 3 originally takes less than 10min from STC to Kennedy. Now buses take 20 minutes. The only rapid service is stouffville go train but it’s too infrequent and ends too early. Fml
It makes no sense to me that the subway extension isn't connecting to UTSC given how many students use that route every day. That would be so convenient.
Pfft. I don't care about the Line 2 Extension. Its a pathetic void to fill for something that doesn't exist anymore. The amount of time to build the extension could have been used to build more rapid transit further east in Scarborough. By the time the extension is complete in potentially 2034, will Toronto even be an affordable place to live anymore? Solid update...but as for the extension itself, I don't care.
