Can be a bit snaggy around there and a lot of kelp beds unless you move around to the beach, I prefer further around towards Scarborough where the sea defences start but you can cast just at the end of them from the pavement and you will get good cod and wrasse there also bonus free parking this time of the year and park across from where you fish loving your videos.
Thanks Dave! That sounds like a good idea mate. I fancied marine drive. That was, until I saw the climb over 😅 you're option sounds like a nice compromise 👍🏼
@@theawfulangler ye I've tried lure fishing stood on the defences and it's a nightmare, but going to try that headland at Scalby when it gets a bit warmer. Marine drive does better at night I've had some good fish there.
@The Awful Angler short pulley rigs there mate, do the job and I havent lost hardly anything there. Go round the corner to jacksons Bay and you have clean beach and some scars to go at.
Nice one pal. We are over fishing the area this weekend. I don’t thing anything from the tides to the bait situation is with us, but the ladies have let us out of Halifax to contest our annual ‘Dutton Winter Cod Trophy’, so we go and wet a line whatever the situation. If you’re over that way and require a guest peg, give us a shout 👍🏻😁 you will be more than welcome
I know that feeling mate, got to make the most of whatever conditions you're dealt. There's been some big seas on this week though so you could be in for a tough but good session. I'm on house arrest this weekend, unfortunately, mate. Been handed a list of DIY jobs as long as my arm haha
Yeah, I heard there's an old river bed runs under the wall and round the back of those rocks. So definitely think it's best to get a look at low and figure where the channel runs.
@@theawfulangler sounds like a plan, still shyte over here, damn clear water and offshore winds forever, then when you want it clear in summer it does the opposite. Stuffed with mackerel though, had over 30 in as many minutes yesterday, got enough now so that got boring fast haha. Take care👍
Little water just there. And you are right further round toward the launch jetty is a better mark as a nice gap to hot between the reef, with another rod into surf for Bass. (and yes they are there... others say not.... worm pops get em though). Alternatively, cross the foot bridge and fish from the rocks. Rotten bottom. In any rate, you need a bigger sea.
Just wanted to let you know ,I think you passed me on my way back from Easington this morning. Be aware on your way home police camera vans all the way back, starting at Camerton.
I used fish that spot. It’s very shallow. I used to hang around and retrieve any lost gear off the rocks along with everyone elses. Try going left to the scalby mills pub and right over the bridge then along the cliffs until you get to the bay. Big cod come out of there but be careful
2hrs each side of high darkness plenty of sea off top of slipway long cast onto mascus worm beds to left 30yd blob into freshwater beck channel any further it’s hard rock high scar you just lose gear us old hands call mark new wall seen some nice fish landed when conditions are right oct to March summer plenty of flounder and in recent years odd bass have turned up
i'm really enjoying watching your channel, never been a sea fisher (freshwater man myself) -apart from many years ago doing some from Bridlington- so not up to speed with the terminology, what is 'caught/cart' as in what you caught the cole fish on? im assuming previously caught fish used as bait? Great to see you being up front about the old 'black dog' that affects many of us (myself included) stay safe dude, thanks and keep up the great content (id do a thumbs up emoji but dont know how lol)
Ah my home town, great video as usual. Not fished that spot for years, but get down there at low tide with the kids so know it well. Far too busy there for my liking. You were right about a gap in the rocks, there's a nice gulley to your right directly in front of the viewing window of the sea life. All pretty shallow though so could do with a bit of sea running. Marine drive is a good bet due to the water depth and tide run but it's very snaggy. Some cracking beaches to the south such as Cayton bay, or rock marks to the north. Great video as usual. All the best.
Thanks for those top tips Graham. I drove marine drive as that's where I wanted to try. But those concrete things looked menacing, then I saw a lad scrambling over using a ladder so I thought better of it 🤣
Nice weather with excellent conditions for fishing and you caught fish so a massive well done. I've noticed that you are a master at catching the 5 bearded rocklings. I caught a tadpole fish once and didn't have a clue what it was but it was a fair size and returned. I check out the internet what it was the record was only 1lb 12.oz and mine was a lot bigger than that and I was gutted but the fish lives on. Love catching coalfish but many don't like eating them as the meat is darker than a pollack but I think they taste pretty good. I know it must be hard work filming and fishing and the same time plus you have all the editing to do but it is really very much appreciated. I'm already looking forward to your next session, take care buddy.
Thanks Anthony! Yeah I'm partial to a rockling 🤣 or maybe other folks are just focusing on the bigger stuff. I caught one that was 35cm and I thought that was a beast turns out the record was somewhere over 3lb. The problem with records is that you have to kill the fish to get it weighed and claim the title. There are plenty of videos of skate landed over the record but no decent angler wants to kill a specimen like that!
Lovering the content mate verry good indeed I live in scarbrough you wanted to be round more to the left than you were if you come across again give me a message and will show you a spot or 2 not far from the car park
I like the fact most of your video intros just show your rods in the rest, I then have to watch the videos to see how each trip went and am not given an indication in advance.
Great vid again.....Interesting about what you say about being on camera. I hate having photographs and also listening to myself talking on recorded teams calls. But good fishing and it looks like a good venue. I was going to fish Amlwch harbour last week but the wind coming from onshore was lethal....So cold....... I ended up in the Adelphi Vaults instead.
Yeah the first couple videos I edited were really uncomfortable watching and listening back. Slowly getting better, but not comfortable doing it in front of others yet! Haha that sounds like a good choice to me mate.
Lovely footage of the dolphins🐬🐬 and an informative video.🧑🎓 Shame the cod didn't turn up.🥺 Maybe the Humber would have been a more productive mark. 🎣🎣But what do I know.🤔 Good luck on your quest, 🤞🙏and I look forward to the next chapter.🫣 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Good effort mate..but as already pointed out,,a big sea,,and further right,,near slipway,,better,,can blast onto the sandy areas,,some bloody good fish come from there. A drop net is also a handy bit of kit..tight lines mate.
Where abouts is that Kerry? Watch out for the next video it was like a mirror. I wouldn't mind fishing a big sea, I seem to have missed the better conditions so far this year.
Nice one 👍 makes the trip more worth while when you get a few bites. I'm just tucking into my takeaway after a trip to otterspool. 1 bite 1 fish, a 48cm codling 👍
Am going to have to try that wall again, never had a bite there years ago, was only using live lug and dead rag though, maybe not enough aroma to cut through the sewerage that used to be therabouts lol
@@theawfulangler theres a lot of skill in angling ... also a lot of luck, have known a complete newbie catch a good fish with a crap rig before now when they are casting next to a full on fisher with all the gear. i just dream at the moment but planning to drag the kids out one night and get them hooked ... either on fishing or as bait lol
I do think these days there's a lot of over thinking in fishing. People buying in to the commercial crap telling us we need to be casting 1000yds with rods that cost £0000s. My second best bass last year was on a cheap spinning rod, using a rock for a weight, that was about 20ft off the waters edge. Small hooks small baits small casts and the kids will love it!
Yea the estuaries are a good call this weekend with the weather we have had. I'm waiting to see if my boy will be coming home from hospital this week so can't plan anything in unfortunately 😕
@@theawfulangler I know what you mean about going on camera , I did about four years or so just using a head mounted camera for my shooting videos, never showed my ugly mush , then one day I thought stuff it , so I started talking to the camera , it’s second nature now, you’re natural at it , a lot of people get very false and a bit monotone when they talk to camera, you don’t, you do well mate 👍👍🤠
Tide height is good, but I'm not a fan of midday highs. Give me dawn or dusk any day. Maybe that's just so I can get 2 sessions out of one drive over haha
Your a natural on camera mate by far the best fishing channel going. I love how you don't mince your words just say it as it is always gives me a smile. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more. Tight lines
