The VAT is killing me too. It's infuriating that some have the same game 32€ cheaper. I think I will have to go from 140 to 100 pledge tier, just to save money. I don't want to cancel, the game is beautiful
For the EU market, we have to put VAT on top and it puts to values (143€) of a huge and expensive campaign game. They have to add something to be more interesting for everyone, otherwise, they could have a bad surprise when it reaches the end campaign and sees a lot of people canceling their pledges. I went to see the price of Blood Rage and it's 90€ in my local store. I think Blood Rage doesn't have so many components but I think Scarface won't be too much far from that value so it's a considerable gap to fill.
I would love for this game to have a double sided board, and you could have NY on the other side...and have other families...both real and fictional would be amazing....to be able to intermix that kind of stuff would be amazing!
I fell in love with this game, but have decided not to back it. It really isnt worth it. 100/140 + shipping + VAT. They decided not to add VAT for EU even though they are from Spain. It's just... 100/140 without SHIPPING and VAT? Like WTF.
If this game goes for 100€ or more in retail it will have a hard time to sell. When I say 100€ is already with VAT because it's how in Europe we mark prices in retail.
The central banks all over the world have been printing money to oblivion the past year. Look at the federal Reserve's balance sheet (the public one). It's absolutely insane. As fiat currencies get weaker, EVERYTHING gets more expensive, even board games. And this is only the beginning.
I did the Mobster pledge on Day 2, but I most likely will drop it due to its high cost. The stretch goals so far are cool, but they really don’t make up for the price. This is more expensive than Gloomhaven, which has tons of content that’s worth the price. I sure hope this is cheaper when it hits retail. The market price for Godfather Corleone’s Empire is $79.99, but it was sold on Amazon for about $40. I hope the same happens to this game because it looks awesome!
So a new game company based in Spain decided their initial board game debut will be...Based on American 1920 gangsters. Obvious choice. I really like what I've seen on this one. I don't need the add-ons shown so far. I'll have to decide closer to the deadline because I have *a lot* of game headed my way as things start shipping. I found it interesting that not only are you really enthusiastic about this game (you previously expressed skepticism about having interest for a gangster theme) but you dressed the part--kind of--for the play through. :-D
Big crush on that game, but it's very expensive... around 130 euros if I include shipping... hopefully, we usually don't get VAT here in Japan, but still...
The game looks very interesting and I was sad that I missed the early bird. But looking at the price with shipping and the additional VAT it is just too expensive for the kickstarter exclusives. I would be really interested how the price got calculated. Currently it is a pass, but I will have a closer look at the retail version
I will pass on this one. If I take the 139 euro pledge, I'll be paying 183 euro, shipping and VAT included. Wait untill retail (in 2023 ?). I have some more KS running, on whick I don't know what the extra cost (VAT or not) will be. The other KS mention "EU friendly", but to my understanding this doesn't mean VAT-free.
A comparison with Godfather would be nice in you upcoming review, also I thought the gameplay would be more like ruines of arnak but I heard you compare it with blood rage which is one of my favorites 🤩
The game looks good, interests me, but the price, NOPE, the value isn't there. The pledge would be between $146 and $204 CAD for the two pledge levels, and then $38 CAD for shipping. I'll wait to see how the reviews are after release and then see what the retail ends up being.
yayyy....Madame Stephanie St Clair and Arnold Rothstein from NEW YORK are now in Chicago....lol (and She ran numbers) and then the price lol boardgamegangsters
From what I read at the bottom of KS they say that VAT is extra (if I am not mistaken) + VAT for shipping and not included as you said. If this is the case I can see the base game go around 200€. Even if it is a good game allegedly I can’t justify the price (even without the VAT). I can’t see how this is more expensive than stromsunder, middara and AT:O.
The base pledge is 99€ + ~23% + 22€ (ship.) = 143,77€ it's not 200€ but neither is cheap. I agree with you, this price put the game price to be around the price of big campaign games.
@@kyriakoskyriakopoulos155 I agree with you regarding the shipping that could be higher. I am not sure if the VAT will also be applied to shipping or if only applied to the game because shipping already has it. Although all together it still a little far of of 200€. Anyway as I said it and I agree with you it could reach high numbers.
It's top 10 for Shira so I guess I have to😜 please don't add another 'family' member or friend ('adult' games) to the roster because I don't feel like taking another job🤪
I'm so stuck! I backed this first day, but it just doesn't seem worth the price. But I do like the game. For that price, I can buy around 3 decent games.
This is grabbing my attention but I really want to get a copy of 'Tales of the Arabian Nights' before its out of production for good. I already bought 'God of War: The Card Game' and 'Horrified' this week, so after that... I'm capping off my board game budget. That's like $100 spent this month on 'em. I think I'll just wait for the retail release.
I have never liked the idea of backing a game with a 90% intent to drop the pledge and wait for retail/sale/reviews down the line. But the KS exclusives are making this game look better. Now I'm annoyed i didn't back day 1 just in case. I didn't back the witcher till the end (figured retail was okay for me then they added a bunch of free stuff for the KS) and missed out of the free miniature, now gotta decide if I'm going to let myself miss out on that ks exclusive piece. It just seemed odd and kinda rude to back a bunch of games then pull out. If enough people do this, couldn't this mess up a stretch goal? Does KS have rules against cancelling too many pledges? Think I'll start backing games I'm kinda interested in if they have day 1 exclusives..
I already have The Godfather: Corleone's empire which looks to satisfy all of the same game play features and since that is one of my top 5 games of all time, I'll pass or wait until retail to try
@@kevinsayers5985 it would have to be SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Godfather, but I'm not willing to see at the current price point. If/when it hits retail I'll give it a shot.
I don't like how many KS exclusive stuff in this game is gameplay stuff.. I'd feel like I'm getting ripped off if the retail version has half the jobs, newspaper events, etc cards!
I kinda want to back this one. But I don’t know. There are a lot of good things coming and I can only spend so much. Pledge Manager for Primal is coming in July, I didn’t back at the time (‘cause money) and I want everything of that now. Gamefound is on fire too, I do mean a LOT of good stuff!.. I wish I was rich. 😂 With that said, I think I’m going to pass for now and see what else gets unlocked. And I’ll wait for your playthrough and review. 😁
With almost everything that's been added recently through stretch goals being KS Exclusive, including a Gametrayz insert, how does that affect your assessment of the value?
Luckily, Im not in Europe so Vat aint a problem but I do understand the pricepoint issue. I backed it for 2 reason mostly, I think the gameplay appeals to me enought to keep it even as a solo gamer and I dont believe it wil hit retail where I live because of language law bs (will probably arrive in the language wave or something if ever). BUT, I think that they could have made a meeple version for cheaper to make it accessible to a bigger audience. Especially at retail. As for sundrop, I dont believe it is happening for one reason: the plastic is colored by team color. Sundrop would probably make it harder to see the team differences. And I'm not even talking at the fact if they use grey everywhere, it might be ugly, and different colors for each team may become too costly. Then again, payne's gray could be interesting as a wash color since most models go towards bluish tones in the base color. And the grey models are not a problem. Anyway, I dont see this game painted for most models (maybe elliot and the newsboy since they are unaligned and definetly the ring but thats it). Sorry I'm rambling again.
Are there other games like Scarface 1920? I really wanna back it, but my friends aren't as hyped as my brother and I are. If only there was a tabletop simulator demo where we all can try thr game before we back it...
Yeah, I've been following this too but I think gameplay is a bit on the light side. Rulebook has too many work in progress notes. The price is really way too high. Look at what the Witcher brought out for the money. Nope, I'll pass on this one.
Um.. we aren't complaining about the VAT. We are complaining about the cost of the game without added VAT. 100-140€ for a game that doesnt have VAT already included is just too much.
@@LL-wu5ui the cost of the game is the cost of the game. No game company should consider VAT in it's base coat since VAT is a consumption tax. Again it's the government not the game company
