You’ve taught me so much! I can’t even drive through the valley or LA without informing my passengers all the history. I pass the karate kid apartment almost everyday and peoples minds are blown when I show them! Can Am studio is another favorite. & that Suzuki of yours 🔥 👌
Another GREAT run-through the LA locations. It's great too that you give the addresses on-screen. If you had 80's life merch, I'd buy one, and I'm living all the way here in Prague, CZ !
Absolutely great, great, great video! Thanks for making it. I grew up in L.A./Santa Monica and was a fan of Scarface since seeing it in a theater for the first time around Christmas of '83. I recognized many locations right away and through the years it's been a hobby of mine to find out everything I can about the making of this masterpiece. Many of the Miami exteriors in Scarface were filmed on location, but so many more exteriors and interiors were filmed in L.A., with the exception of the New York scenes. I used to go by the "Montana Management Company" quite often when I hung out in Hollywood in the 80s and 90s and I'd always point this out to friends. Building does indeed look identical. I used to think perhaps that part of the chainsaw scene was filmed on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica, but it was Ocean Ave in Miami, which is at sea level unlike Ocean in Santa Monica which is elevated. But it had a very similar look in those days with lots of cheap hotels and similar architecture. The Cuban community was very angry at DePalma because they thought the film was sponsored by some pro-Castro conspiracy to make Cuban Americans look bad, which is ridiculous, so they got chased out of Miami and went full bore on filming in L.A.
As a 6-yr-old that watched it back in 83, to watching it now even at 45, this is one of my most loved films. You've been brilliant at putting this video up with the locations in the movie. Tremendous!! From Goa, India🇮🇳
Duuuude! Thank you so much for the effort. This was so rad to watch as an L.A native and die hard Scarface fan! Seen the movie over and over and the only spot I knew about was the Lopez Motors dealer location. Keep these coming! Subscribed.
I'm grateful to have been even a 78 newborn to have remembered a got a vibe of the 80s. My pops always had older friends so that was cool it have stayed with me
Very nice post. It’s really cool to actually see the locations after all this time. This movie still ranks as one of my all time favorites. Great job..
Great video 👍👍 I love these types of videos that shows old movie locations matching them up with what it looks like today. A favorite movie of mine too
One of my favorite movies of all time and I am 57. I saw it in Mesquite, TX the Friday it was released 1983. Then recorded it on HBO to 2 VHS tapes that I literally wore out. Then Was given a collectible double VHS collection. When DVDs came out I couldn't resist and purchased the 'Platinum Edition' with the extras. Had two full length posters of the famous black and white cover of Tony and the other of him firing the mocked up AR-15 (to look like an M16) w/ grenade launcher during his famous "Little Friend" line. Those posters were always a killer conversation starter in my man cave... long gone now unfortunately. Sorry for the long comment, but great video and it brought out some great emotional memories!!
I love these videos. Sometimes kinda eerie to see these structures still around today but sad in a way also. All the history just standing the test of time. Time goes on and leaves pieces of history in path. When you see these places in reality, it shows how magical the movie making process is.
Thanks so much for the video!!! I just saw SCARFACE 40th Anniversary showing in the theater the other night and have been looking up things since. Too bad Tony’s Mom’s house looks to be not around anymore, hopefully whoever got displaced was well compensated. That shot in the movie is absolutely beautiful, perfect time of night, with incredibly vivid color. Would love to know who owns the mansion, and Manny’s house still looks great. LA looks great on a clear sunny day, maybe it’s always like that? I’d love to see it “personally” (Omar voice) one day.
I think the majority of movies in history have been filmed in LA to a certain degree even if the story isn't based in LA solely. Whether it be on location throughout the city or inside a studio like we see here.
When you were showing where Manny's house was located in Santa Barbara That man was checking you out while you were filming I'm pretty sure that girl who opened the front door told him you were filming outside their house I tripped out on that one. Great video, my friend.
Glad someone finally found that house. One of my favorite past times is finding filming locations and Manny's house was one that people had trouble finding for the longest time.
I was on a flight from Houston to New York in 2002 and sat next to Chi-Chi (Angel Salazar). We talked for a while and he explained that most of the movie was filmed in L.A….and yes, the interior of “Tony’s” house was a studio. Cool vid.✌🏼
I worked on the Universal lot at the Shoah Foundation 20 years ago. I always walked in through that gate you show. I had no idea Tony Montana’s mansion was shot in Stage 12! Oh yeah, I just remembered I met De Palma while working at Virgin Megastore. He stands out in my memory as the second rudest celebrity customer. (We didn’t have the letterbox The Sound of Music vhs and he had a hissy fit, haha!)
Great video, thanks! There's several videos about the Miami locations, but this is the only one I found about the LA locations. I saw the movie tonight and was curious about what scenes were filmed in California.
the 80's were a wonderful time.....only then could we get an Italian playing a Cuban lolz then again in 1990 we got a Brit and a Mexican playing Italian brothers.....seriously not making that up lolz Super Mario Bros the movie but really jokes aside, the 80's were the best cus we had so many great movies and the music was fantastic and the women were hot as hell.... very masculine rock bands came out in leopard print suits and pink leather and all sorts of crazy outfits and got more poontang than any of us that's for sure lolz gods i love the 80's, best decade ever!
Thank You for the Scarface locations it really made my day I had the pleasure to visit Miami FL where they filmed the area of the chainsaw scene it still the same
You really are the G.O.A.T. Don't freak if I see you and act as if I've encountered Michael Jackson... My wife and I watch your stuff everyday. Thanks for all the hard work and great content.
Ok, just please don't rip the sleeves off my shirt. Haha. Seriously, thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I really hope I continue to bring you content you enjoy.
Man this is great stuff!!! I thought it was all filmed in Miami outside of the New York assassination attempt scene of course. Haha! Thanks for all you do man!!!💯💪👍
across the street from that Refinery off of Anaheim Street is the house from Some Kind Of Wonderful with Eric Stoltz. They also used San Pedro High School for that movie. Another great 80's movie!!
They got kicked out of Miami. The local Cubans were offended by the portrayal of Cubans as criminals. They wanted Tony to be an anti Communist patriotic that wants to assassinate Castro
Loving these videos! Keep up the great work!! I know it's 90s but any chance you'll ever do any Tarantino films like Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown, lots of iconic LA spots in those movies
You should do 187 next, I discovered most of the spots through google maps, I plan to go one day I’m not too far away ( San Diego ) much love and enjoy watching your videos a lot !!
