Edinburgh's finest, my feelings for this single have not changed in 33 years, simply jawdropping.

This has been one of my favorite records for about 30 years and not a single person I know has ever heard of it or the band. I have it on a very old single I bought years ago and never heard anything else by this band or anything of them since. This song needs to be rediscovered by someone with influence.

Absolutely superb, as an Edinburgh boy, I can say without doubt these lads were this city's finest.

When you look at the utter shit that passes for music these days and has done for the past 15 years it makes me glad I was around in 77-80 when people cared about music, an incredible tune from a time stuffed with incredible tunes!

How have I never heard this band? I've been thoroughly over the post-punk and early british punk scene with a fine tooth comb for about 20 years and never heard these guys. Amazing. Just bought Author! Author! on Amazon.

The greatest Post-Punk band EVER! With the additional bonus of being from Edinburgh! It's not often you wish you were ten years older but this is definitely the case here. Would've loved to see Scars in their heyday. Come on lads. Unleash the unreleased and do another reunion tour on the back of it.

The reunion venture did not work out well. I can send you links to the singer's more recent musical works, should you wish.

Hey, I forgot how awesome this song is. For some reason I've been thinking about Scottish punk recently and this song popped into me head. My introduction to Scottish punk blasted me to bits with the Rezillos' 7" I Can't Stand My Baby (7/77) a song that hasn't lost an ounce of shattering power in over 37 years. Of course, everyone knows the Exploited, probably Scotland's most famous punk band. But the Scars are not well known here in America. Adult/ery was first issued as a single in 1979 and later the same year it was included on a compilation album that included Gang Of Four and the Mekons. So I now direst your punk ears to this tremendous song. And then we'll hear a live version! Sweet, eh?

This was my intro to Scars a few years ago right here (jaw dropped, mad that I had missed this band, but with the obscurity of their releases before the Author Author CD, it made it hard to run across them in a record shop, 1/4 century later). Since, I've tracked down the Author Author CD re-release and finally had a slightly battered, but good Adult-ery 7" on Fast. What a single. The guitar mix is like 10x for abrasive on the vinyl. Horrorshow great enough to be another A side.

SECOND SCOTTISH BAND WE'RE HEARING TODAY. Formed in Edinburgh in the late 1970's Scars were fronted by Robert King and included Paul Research guitar, John Mackie on bass, and Calumn Mackay on drums The band's original sound was harsh and angular as evidenced on the tremendous song Adult/ery. Most of us here in America first heard Adult/ery when it was included on a compilation that featured Gang Of Four and the Mekons.

I'm Melanie :) My Dad reckons they were recorded in 1978, possibly in Mike's Studio (not too sure about that) in Edinburgh. Paul Mackie would know for sure. Cheers!

this was one of my favorites off the "Fasti Product Mutant Pop" compilation. Raw and oddly uplifting. Too bad they only managed an album several years later, with some of the edge gone.

Had a late seventies coimp album of this and some other stuff. Closest thing that reminded me to a ganbang/brundlefly of the clash, 999 and the stranglers all roled into one.

scoorieboy Yes. You fired me. I deserved it. I was a tad hurt though when, in 2010-ish Paul said you could not work with me because I was 'unreliable'. I wrote 'heroin' on my Facebook page not in any glamourous way, but it had a private context that made its point to the child. All you said 'no'. But I had said 'no' before, because Paul tried to restrict my input with no-nos regarding lyrical topics. Topics? I only write what the music says... I say ALL this in peace. We are beyond hate. You, and I, are a Scar. XXX
