Yuzutea Good work! Here some of my favorite unusual spins👇🏻 Carolina Kostner: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lqpu_TbIGTo.html at 3:26 Shoma Uno: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jh_MDziMUVk.html at 5:02 Mao Asada: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SmaOk-Skl5Y.html at 2:11 Alena Kostornaia: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wwLWCLtbsGM.html at 1:11
You can use a back biellmann(aka a biellmann done on the right leg(for ccw skaters)) I've only seen 2 people do it so far. Irina Slutskaya, and Anete Lace
Well, that just tells how much dedication and hardwork they put into ballet and overstretching... similarly to elite runners who consistantly train running with weights strapping/pulling on them or behind. Besides, these skaters/dancers started when they were little baby that their bodies and bones were easy to be "malleable".
The Hyperextened Biellmanns always give me heartattacks, the flexibility and strength you need for those...incredible. Was blown away by it firstly by Julia. I know we are in a quad frenzy and wierd jump frenzy when judges have odd judging (ignore their own rules/ GOE bullets)...spins should not be overlooked and are my favourite parts of all skaters programs. So beautiful and you really can be original with them. I actually wished they got rewarded more spins...but meh just my opinion
comment I can do the spin (not as good as them though!) and yeah it kinda is painful😂 But I think it’s not that unnatural, I‘ve seen a girl doing cheerleading that does an overextended biellmann and then leans forward!
ISU needs to bring back the spirals, so artistic and aesthetically pleasing. They always talk about increasing the emphasis on artistry. This is a perfect way to start. Nowadays choreography sequences are full of filler moves without any emotion or artisty.
I love a good spiral sequence, but there’s also a lot of pretty bad spiral sequences that I definitely don’t miss. I definitely agree that I wish choreo sequences actually had to have more choreography haha. Seems like people just do a single spread eagle and call it a choreo sequence
I agree. Choreography of Eteri girls are too busy. I love spins of Kostornaia and Valieva. And their spirals would be more elegant if they don't use them as difficult quick entries before jumps.
@@user-fk4by8vz4u Yeah, Eteri programs are all the same. If you take away the costume and music change, you probably couldn't tell one apart from the other. The only place they might deviate a little from the standard is those of them that have extra flexibility. That's IT. And even then there's a lot of repetitiveness. For example if i see one more leg kick from Valieva I think i am going to throw up.
@@Yuzutea agree, but skaters can actually try to improve themselves if this was a requirement. I am tired of seeing ina bauer into spread eagle or that sitting leg spread thing they do
I skate, and it depends on whether I’m running early/on time/late for how long I hold it. You get the same amount of points in IJS as long as it’s high enough and for difficult combos (change edge, skid, etc), it’s done correctly. I hope that made sense!
@@olivia-sy3rv Yes. That makes sense according to the rule now. But I just don't feel busy programs are beautiful. Like ionoon said, I also miss the spiral sequences.
@@comment6864 The leg kick is an Eteri thing. All her juniors (now young seniors) do it. But I've never seen anyone do Kamila's spin. It seems like the natural ending to the spin that Sasha and Polina and Lucinda do at the end. Is Kamila's spin new? If so I hope they name it after her.
@@fazdoll The bielman? That's nothing new, she does it with her leg straight up, that's all. Hyperextension. That's a physical gift that she has, it's not really a skill. She does all the same stuff pretty much that everyone else does, it's just that her hyperflexibility makes them look different. But that doesn't impress me very much, and i think it's a little overused by her choreographers. It's like ok, we understand, she can lift her leg not just really high like they all do, but really really really high. Ok. Now what? Flexibility to a great degree is a genetic physical attribute. I remember when i was a kid there were certain girls that had a perfect split without even trying much. Without even being into gymnastics or ballet or anything like that. Little girls even kind of compete over that kind of stuff. I personally don't consider that a crucially important thing in skating. I would say all of them have enough flexibility. What matters how they use each individual talent to make an integral and beautiful part of the whole performance. Viewers pick up on subtleties, you know. We can pick up right away that something is being overused.
Cam was saying she'd spent much time in rhythmic gymnastics before joining figure skating, that's probably where her flexibility was enhanced. So it's not quite fair to say she owns her extension only to her genes.
As a ballerina I have so much respect for figure skaters. We can't turn without spotting, and we usually max out normal turns at like three, and here these people are like tops, without spotting. 👏👏👏
Thank you for including Lucinda Ruh! I believe she is the best spinner in all of figure skating. Her centering was perfect and she showed wonderful innovation. You could see she was transported to another place when she spun. Unfortunately, because she didn’t do the kinds of jumps other skaters did, she never received the marks and acclaim she truly deserved, but I very much enjoyed watching all of her routines. She always seemed to be a genuinely humble and lovely person, too.
Yes. I saw Lucinda Ruh live at the 1996 world championships in Edmonton. (She kindly signed my program, too.) But when she took to the ice in practice sessions and began to spin (often at the end after a frustrating series of tortured jumps), all the other skaters and coaches would stop to watch her! All eyes were glued to her. Her spinning was so respected by all. She was that incredible. One of her spins was worth more than a quad these days. No one could do what she did with her absolutely perfect centering, speed, incredible duration and innovation. I could watch her all day doing her spins - even more than all the jumping beans out there. Spins are sorely underrated. They are much harder for most people to do than jumps.
Google it. It was done many times before Yuna (but the skaters were so successful as Yuna), she just popularized it...and Koreans (who didn't watch FS before they got Yuna) think that she was the first one who did it.
The unknown spins included the "haircutter," the "pancake" and the "broken leg." (What my coach who was in the Ice Capades used to call them.) Tonya Harding has a spin named after her, the Harding Spin, and to me it looks like the camel Yuna Kim does. Dick Button described it as "a cross between a Hamil Camel and a tipsy little skater."
Love, love, LOVE THIS! Spins are my favorite part of the skating competition. The crazy “Adelina” spin looks to be incredibly difficult - props to all these skaters for their brilliant moves!
Lucinda Rue is Queen of Spin, the greatest spinner of all time, bar none. There is a utube clip of her in a performance in an orange body suit where she performs dozens of extraordinary spins - the best I have ever seen in 50 years of watching figure skating. Please honor this incredible star. As many people as possible should see this astounding spinner. Lucinda is an immortal great, beyond inspiring. Thank you Lucinda, for reaching a level of figure skating spins that no one else ever has. You have given us a spin artistry of great unique beauty in figure skating history.
These skaters are so strong and so flexible, and it looks like they have to be a contortionist as well! Amazing ability and talent, plus of course lots and lots and lots of very hard work. This spins and twirls are my favorite parts of their performances.
Yulia Lipnitskayas I-spin (is that what it's called?) Is spectacular as well, I'm surprised you didn't include it. Not many girls get the speed that she gets in it
@@jrewing2383 she would have been a beautiful bronze but since it happened in Sochi, a russian girl has to win. Yulia messed up her program, so it was given to Adelina. The gold medal pretty much crushed her career into pieces because she couldn’t live up to the standards of the Olympic Champion. In the end, she was used by the ISU and gets thrown out right afterwards. Shame on ISU for wasting a beautiful skater.
Adelina only had flexibility, but she was not artistic or had a good technique. ISU and her federation gave her a tainted medal but her attitude on those Olympics put the last nail on her coffin.
I've always loved figure skating it is so relaxing to watch. Wow! It is mesmerizing! Those spins , especially the "candlestick" doesn't even look real! So talented!!. Wow! I love it!!!❤!
I would love to see unusual or amazing moves on the field like yuzus and yulia ina bauers, kevin aymoz back lounge glide, shoumas and alexandras cantilivers, jason brown and sasha cohen split jumps, sasha and alissa charlotte spirals :)
The section of “Lyra Angelica” where Michelle Kwan did the change-of-direction spins made them seem all the more unusual. Wonderful interpretation of the music 😍
You should take a look at the Canadian skater Shawn Sawyer. He doesn't compete anymore but he had some crazy flexibility. He used to a variation of the Y Spiral, had a crazy high regular spiral, could do the Biellman, and did something similar to the Candlestick spin where he would start in a sit spin, grab the toe of his free leg and raise it up into a hyperextended position above his head. He also did backflips and cartwheels on the ice sometimes in his show/exhibition programs. I really like the "Pearl" spin and I really like the "Adelina" camel spin especially the one at the 3:00 mark.
shawn is absolutely amazing, isn't he? SO underappreciated (it seems like almost nobody knows who he is) but seriously one of my all-time favorite skaters. i'm glad he's found a home with cirque du soleil
Watching this made me feel so very small. Their talent, dedication and performance are out of this world. I know not much about FS, but I truly admire their dedication to perfection.
They are all great in their own right. Julia’s final spin has never been surpassed.Elena was great she has the lot Kamila will be the best when she is older she has the grace of Kostornaia and the flexibility of Lypnitskaia.well done to all.
I don't even figure skate, but I have a massive Respect for them. They work so hard on something so dangerous. It's insane what people can do on the ice
Какая красота.... Нежная, трогательная, сложная... ФК - очень красивый, сексуальный, эстетичный вид спорта.... Каждый фигурист исполняет эти красивые элементы со своей изюминкой....
I remember watching Philippe Candeloro years ago and it was just wild and exciting what he would throw into his routine. Love that he was included. He often did things that kind of made you think WTF
The spin at 7:12 gives the impression that the skater has lost a leg or something. There certainly are a lot of innovative spins. The Biellmann spin is probably the most elegant looking spin. One of the least elegant looking spins used in competition is the one that Sasha Coen started -- as a trend.
5:34 most people I know call this a side sit spin 5:39 a leg over head sit spin 🤷♀️ 6:17 broken sit spin/low pancake sit or a cross sit spin 6:28 layback or sideway layback 6:41 sideway layback 6:53 an “I” spin or a “Y” spin 7:04 normally just called a back camel spin 7:13 a pancake spin or just an upright pancake
The skill and athleticism that ice skaters must possess goes far beyond what many other athletes in other sports need to possess. Then they have to apply a delicate balance of artistry with their skills. It it one of the most inspiring things to watch. And l choose this sport any day over what is considered sport to the world at large.
