Mary has not seen THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT or *I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER* so she doesn't understand the multiple references to these films. ☹Who was the idiot who recommended Scary Movie to Mary?
References: "Scream" "I Know What You Did Last Summer" "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" (1992 movie) "Gilmore Girls" (TV show) "Clueless" "Heathers" "Mean Girls" "Candyman" "Psycho" (1960 B&W original) "The Shining" "Basic Instinct" "The Blair Witch Project" "Amistad" "Titanic" "The Sixth Sense" "Friday the 13th" "The Exorcist" "American Pie" "The Matrix" "The Usual Suspects" "A Streetcar Named Desire"
The opening to this and the sequel are is/are one of the funniest ever. To parody key scenes out of memorable and well known horror classics and still be drop dead funny years later is no easy feat. Cheers from Cape Cod, MA!
"Pulp fiction" was the dad with the ball in his mouth. The snaught bubble seen of Gale's "The Blair Witch Project." Nailed the 6th sense, Halloween, Scream. You definitely need to see "I know what you did last summer" with Jennifer Love Hewitt.
It is too late for Mary. She missed all those serious horror movies and, if she watches them, she will be laughing at the Scary Movie references. Who was the IDIOT who recommended Scary Movie to Mary?
"Drawers" is slang for pants or underwear. 14:35 I can't help but laugh every time Grandma gets absolutely bodied by that piano. 😂 It's so good. The main movies this one parodies are Scream, Scream 2, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I'm always torn between whether this one or Scary Movie 2 is the better movie, but they're both great. Scary Movie 3 was made by the same guys who made Airplane and The Naked Gun, you might really like that one. It's also got one of my favorite visual gags of all time.
Please watch at least to Scary Movie 3 as it's made by different directors and the humor might be more up your alley. Scary Movie 4 is almost as good but has a lot more dopey humor jokes and it kinda makes it slightly less funny in my opinion. Scary Movie 2 however is kind of aimed more for a trashy type of humor. Not that it's bad but it might not be your favorite, all the same you should still consider giving it a shot. Edit: If you don't want to do a Scary Movie sequel, there are 2 other movies like this that are on par with this and the third one. The first being Superhero Movie and the second being BASEketball. Superhero Movie has writers from the movie Airplane! And BASEketball ball was made by the creators of South Park and the Director of Airplane!.
The first two were made by the Wayans brothers, and were rated R. The rest were made by a different production staff, and were PG garbage. The studio didn't care because they can sell more tickets with a PG rating. Lots of poop jokes and other infantile humor. A better word for the two Wayans movies would be raunchy. They were the only truly funny episodes.
There's one I've been hoping to see someone do for along time that's similar to this, but only in concept. It's called Murder by Death. The characters are mostly parodies of fictional detectives from classic mystery books. So, to really appreciate it, you'll need to see The Maltese Falcon, The Think Man, Any Charlie Chan movie (might not be good to react to that one as it didn't age well), and any of the Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple Movies from the 1970s. The better you know the characters the funnier it is, but the real stars are the maid and butler.
The movies most parodied in this film are Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). The movie also rips off Halloween (1978), American Pie (1999), The Blair Witch Project (1999), The Matrix (1999), The Sixth Sense (1999), The Shining (1980), The Exorcist (1973) and The Usual Suspects (1995).
Fun fact, the guy who played Greg actually was a special guest at my High School. I don't remember what exactly he talked to us about, but what I did remember was that he seemed like a nice chill dude and took a picture with our class.
It was mostly Scream 1 and 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer that this movie Spoofs. Not really Halloween. But a spattering of other random things throughout, Blair Witch Project for example, and yes the Matrix. And also American Commercials with the “Wazzuuup!” Scene haha. The I see Dead People part was from the Sixth Sense. And the very end WAS the Usual Suspects
They are making fun of "I know what you did last summer", it stared Jennifer Love-Hewit she was as they say full figured. All the scary movies at that time cast 20 something's as teenagers. There's a good comedy one about super hero called "Blankman"
Scary Movie and sequels are spoof movies, they make fun of a lot of movies The first 2 were from the Wayland brothers (or smth like that) with more focus on potty humor- the later ones were taken over by David Zucker, where the focus shifts a bit. David Zucker, Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams (ZAZ ) did some great spoof movies, like naked Gun, Hot Shots, Airplane and other comedy movies, like Top Secret
Other reference comedies: "Last Action Hero" (1993) Arnold Schwarzenegger "True Lies" (1994) Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis. Directed by James Cameron "Loaded Weapon" (1993) "Johnny English" (2003) "So I Married An Axe Murderer" (1993) "Hexed" (1993) there are 5 or 6 other movies with the same name "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (1966) "History of the World: Part I" (1981) "Scary Movie 2" (2001) "Wrongfully Accused" (1998) "Spy Hard" (1996) "Repossessed" (1990) "Fatal Instinct" (1993) not the 1992 movie of the same name "Dracula: Dead and Loving It" (1995) "Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth" (2000) "Silence of the Hams" (1994)
After Scary Movie 1 the best referential genre parody movie is Not Another Teen Movie. Required Viewing includes: Can't Hardly Wait She's All That 10 Things I Hate About You Varsity Blues American Pie Bring It On Pretty in Pink The Breakfast Club Ferris Bueller's Day Off Cruel Intentions Never Been Kissed & American Beauty... Which is a surreal oscar-winning drama starring Kevin Spacey and yet... Totally referenced well You've seen half of those at least.
The "smart" thing regarding these movies would be to watch the movies they spoof first. SCARY MOVIE 2 spoofs: HOUSE (1985), THE HAUNTING (1999), THE EXORCIST, HOLLOW MAN, WHAT LIES BENEATH, 13 GHOSTS (2001), CHARLIE'S ANGELS (2000), POLTERGEIST (1982), and others that I never saw.
This is a parody of a bunch of Y.A slasher movies mostly scream and the name scary movie was actually the original name of scream but was changed to scream before it was released
Today was the day that I realized, unless you were within a very specific age group, and fully engrossed and American pop culture in the year 2000, most of this movie is nonsense. 😂
"Oh waaah, I cant be openly racist anymore" Gtfoh, anyone can still make a movie thats funny and isnt meant to straight up cater to fascists and racists.
@@erikjohnson3859 There's only racism if you have that point of view. Same as sexism. Jokes have for eternity made fun of the differences been people but exaggerated. It's called self-deprecation.
@jasongoodacre Racisim and sexism only exist if you think they exist? Wow. Im sure you think it's racist to call someone else racist too, right? Intent is what matters. A movie made to make fun of racists, like Blazing Saddles, is more welcome than ever. One made to appeal to racists is less welcome than ever.
Don'r watch anything past "Scary Movie 3" There is a whole bunch of "Movie " movies like "Superhero Movie" etc. etc. and they are so fucking bad you will wonder why you wasted your time when you could have been with your family and cats. heed my words....
Some of the movies referenced in Scary Movie include: Halloween, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Shining, Friday the 13th, The Usual Suspects, The Sixth Sense, The Blair Witch Project, The Matrix and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
@@GaryLBlakeley When they're having sex at the end and CIndy goes all dom seems like a direct shout out to when Michelle does it to Jim in American Pie
the movie probably would have been a bit more funnier to you if you have seen the movies its based off of, sometimes you sorta took the jokes and parodies a bit to serious, which is fine ofcourse. But overall this is a Classic, I'd say 2 and 3 are very good as well, after that it becomes hot garbage
Suggestion: Steve Martin investigates supposed murder in "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", a film that repurposes and weaves in 19 Old Hollywood films. ( comedy )
OK, have I got a great movie for you. "Pure Country" with George Strait and Lesley Ann Warren from 1992. Rated 7.1 IMDB. I am not a fan of country music but I liked this a lot. The ending is great. Don't miss out on a wonderful movie review.
I miss this style of humor sooooo so so so so much. Not necessarily the satire part, although I do like it, I’m talking the topics of jokes and the vulgar script without the need for a cuss word every other sentence in order for it to be considered vulgar.
