I figure most folks have seen my vid of the IMSA GTO/U TV coverage. Here's what the place looks like from inside a car. Thanks again to Greg Amy for the footage..and notice his SSB Nissan NX2000 is dueling with SSA and SSGT cars for most of it. Still can't figure out why he caught the Black Flag..

Wow what a rare point of view all things considered. A nice slice of obscure SCCA history.

I'm assuming all those GT cars qualified farther back because Saturday was a full-blown Summit monsoon. Mud patterns seem to hint this. Makes for an action packed first lap: from 7th grid position, passed by 5 by the end of turn1 and at least 4 more by the same time next lap. Some of that was cars sneaking by with the big-bores. But boy could he get that little Nissan deep on the brakes! Nice consistent lap times: (one minute and..)44,40,37,36,36,37,36,36,35,36,37,36,36,39(off lap),53(black flag pit), 37,36,36,36,35,36. I was crewing an FC at Summit right around that time, so this is a great flashback!

now this isn't a track you would want to go off circuit

+Anthony Kernich , yeah, even if you didn't get hurt..it would seriously mess with your lap time.

Depending on the weather it can be referred to as 'Some Mud Point'.

I think only Greg would be able to tell us, but i think they got the wrong car number it looks like (Edit at 26:53 he went off at turn five and then came back on and hit the blue car, not intentional but I guess thats what it was for)

+CRXSI1987 , looking at it again, I think I agree. But hey, FWD! Stompin' and steerin' is the only way to keep it from coming around. I could see a steward thinking/saying, "Come to a stop and pick a spot!" about it, but that instinct to catch it always seems to come through. I've seen people sliding on their side still sawing at the wheel. ;)

old scca apologist aside that's exactly what happened. He had been plowing his way around that left-right complex all day not getting it close to right even one time. He late braked and the car would not turn, he'd been understeering there every time. So he goes all the way off into the mud that barges his way back onto the track slamming into the blue car (charger>). He's a lousy driver. the crap about the big blocks pulling away missed the point that even against cars with equal acceleration he could pass any of them. he's got no skills. He didn' make a single pass that stuck. He sucks.

The black flag was flown because the volunteers running the races back then didn't understand racing. They were mainly federal government employee's who had no power during the week and a lot on race weekends. I raced during those years at the point in a ITB VW rabbit and a ITA Honda civic . B.O.B. racing
