RIP. Rutger Hauer was a great character actor who never fully got the attention or praise he deserved. Sorely underrated during his career. Blind Fury is a classic.
Another great but not mentioned film of his is Lady Hawke with Matthew Brodricke, Michel Phfiefer, Leo McKern back in the 80's. He was in some great movies. He is missed.
My favorite scene is when he's in the park and cuts an annoying flying insect in half with his hidden Cane sword, and this old couple say's "we gotta get one of those"😂😁 RIP to a great actor 👍
Though I absolutely love him in Blade Runner, Blind Fury is my favorite role to see him play. This was very underrated at the time but such a very good story!
For me he will always be Sallow from Salute to Jugger/Blood of Heroes. And my favourite shot is his smile when he sees Kidda being accepted by the Red League.
I remember seeing this movie as a kid on a Sunday afternoon. Bad Ass movie and character. When me and my friends would play outside, my buddies would fight over who was Arnold, Stallone, JCVD, and Segal. I knew I wanted to be Rutger Hauer from Blind Fury!!! RIP Mr. Hauer.
The first movie I saw from him was Nighthawks. Rutger was a magnificent actor and very underrated. Rest in Peace. His " Tears in rain " monologue I as Roy Batty in Blade Runner will live forever.
This was one of like 10 movies my dad had recorded onto vhs that he would get drunk and watch it over and over. This, iron eagle, the cowboys, big jake, red dawn, and 4 or 5 more. I must seen this movie about 500 times. Great film.
Seemingly less well-known in the comments here are two more gems: Soldaat van Oranje (1977) and my personal favorite: The Salute of the Jugger (also: The Blood of Heroes, with extremely cool Joan Chen 1988)
We need actors like you Mr Rutger Hauer. We love you and your movies... Rock! Thanks for your passion and talent. R.I.P.... and see you beyond the last door!
This movie was the first film I ever saw Rutger Hauer in that I recognized who he was, possibly the first movie I ever saw him in period. Ever since I saw it, I've loved him as an actor and I also really loved the guy as a person and humanitarian. Ever since I saw his performance in this movie, I got further interested in his filmography. I hope to see more of his films that I have yet to see given I've only seen several. I'm still tracking down a copy of Ladyhawke as I really like the premise. All of that aside, he is truly a class-act and a man who will be forever missed.
Still gutted ,,,,,growing up in the 80s as a teen loved your movies,,,,,,,I blinked and suddenly you passed away aged 75,,,,,,an here I am no longer a teen but bout to be 48,,,,,,,ages are just numbers lost in time like tears in the rain,,,,,time for us ‘all to die,,,,,,,,,we’re not here long
I remember first seeing this movie over 30 years ago: I was at a barbecue at a friend's place, and this was one of the free to air movies playing that evening.
I loved this movie when I first saw it in the theater and realized it was a faithful version of Zatoichi.....I still watch it when it’s on tv. Hauer was the best choice for the role
Love this movie. My head canon always believed that he knew the punk really put the hot sauce on his burrito, but ate it anyway and was faking it bugged him just to get the punk mad.
Considering he spent a long time with SE asian tribal people (who enjoy, spicy food... you want HOT? Order Thai food "Thai hot" and you'll see...) and his sense of smell was probably as highly developed as his hearing, plus - being a skilled observer of human behavior, I'd say there was a 100 % chance that ol' Nick knew EXACTLY how much and how hot that salsa was going to be. And knew it wouldn't phase him.
Never ever underestimate an opponent, especially when they’re being the humble one in the ordeal. People have the idea that the loudest yelling, obnoxious, and most irate is what makes right, but nope. Actions speak louder than words.
Can you imagine if they did a tv series how awesome that would of been. Id loved to have had one where its like incredible hulk and he wanders into trouble as a lost soul helping others.
I love the concept h would have watched it but you know they would have jacked it up using anybody else & they would never have used him- just like Buffy. Guess they'd rather have a cloned army of Ryan Goslings...
I didn't even know till Monday & just burst into tears on my front porch. I made a pact with myself years ago to see all his movies & I am still on this quest! Did you take your name from the song from Sting?
Rutger was and is an Everyman actor, he plays weirdo villains with the greatest of expertise, yet he can also be funny, kind, sweet, goofy, strong, heroic too. Wish he'd been more famous. Shits like Stallone got all the glory.
DesertRose122 what a legendary actor. I cant believe he is 74 years now. I.think his official group on facebook deserves more awareness and engagement😔😔😔. Just search Rugter Hauer official on facebook and say hello. he will be happy
Goes from picking one blind guy to stealing a waitress purse then to pulling a knife on a blind guy and actually being ready tobstab him.. this character is hard to believe
