The subtlety of the acting by everyone in this scene is mind blowing. You don't see natural performances like this anymore. Real, raw.

and the women look so beautiful, not like the actresses today.

There is an old proverb, only Ben Gazzara could dump Audrey Hepburn.

The one dislike is from someone who knows he's going to Heaven.

"A dingbat, right? A ding-a-ling! A dingo!" Man Gazzara was the best

I think the edited version was probably cut a little too much & the full version meanders a little. Either way, I love this film and this is my favourite scene. Gazzara was brilliant; what a voice!

glad this film has attained cult status, so many great interesting films from the era and this one as well disappear through the cracks when they should be watched, enjoyed, debated and thought about

In the top three of my favorite Ben Gazarra movies but my favorite is Saint Jack because I lived it in Pattaya Thailand 1994.

HBOMAX has the 1978 director's cut at 1hr48min and the 1976 original at 2hr14min. Which is better? Or which is the standard canon? Don't think I've ever seen a director's cut that was a half hour shorter than the feature, interesting

I remember reading somewhere that Cassevettes wasn't happy with the original cut even at the release. But he went on with it anyways. The final cut is when he comes back to it later and puts it together again
