I'm an Arizona native and used to cross the canyon when there was only the old narrow bridge. Those abandoned buildings are just minor remnants of what was once a large gas station, restaurant and store years ago. Do a search for Troy's Canyon Inn to see some old postcard pictures of it. Before it was Troy's, it was called the Jimana Inn.
Thanks for the info ! I’ve Raft guided here for 32 years ! A crazy old ex-highway patrolman and his wife (Glen & Irene) ran the store back in the 90’s She was sweet as pie and he would 86 the Guides for coming in without shirt & shoes. Spring Rafting here is the best kept secret anywhere !
Yea! Salt river canyon is stunning!! I call it the Grand Canyon Jr. Thank for subbing! Much appreciated 🙏 I hope to make an updated salt river canyon video in the near future....once the river picks up after monsoon season 👍
I drove fully loaded 18 wheelers through there at night. First time I was ever going to Show Low and had NO idea about the Salt River Canyon. Remember, this is at night. Then I see on my GPS about 5 miles out, the nav line gets all squiggly. I'm like WTF?! I pulled over at that break check area right before the canyon and just looked at the GPS lol. Long story short, my butthole was SUPER puckered during that entire first time riding through the canyon at night hauling 80,000lbs lol.
Lol....that's funny! I don't doubt it though, I've drove out to that area many times and have seen RVs and big trucks hauling trailers that didn't expect the downhill and sharp turns......next thing ya know there parked at the bottom where the rest stop is and there brakes are HELLA smoking! I couldn't even imagine driving it at night with an 18 wheeler.....would probs piss myself or end up using the runaway ramp.....or both 🤷♂️
I just drove my 18 wheeler (78k lbs) across the canyon a couple days ago and about crapped myself. Next time, I'm going back to Phoenix up to Flagstaff. Lol. Never again. 🤣🤣 I was going about 3 mph down the biatch. 🤣
Thank you for the video, I very much appreciated. I took a load of lumber 🪵 from LA, CAL to White river AZ. I drove through the salt river canyon to get to the reservation. It’s been 30 years since I’ve seen this canyon.
Hey no prob! And thanks for sharing! After making this video I've come to learn that people definitely don't forget this canyon. It sure holds dear in their memory, as it should, it's a pretty stunning place! Glad you enjoyed it.
Ok Jessie your video's are well done and information you give out, show's that you put quite abit of effert. Several semi-trucks and personal's vehicel's disappearing in to history after flying off the roadway and being destroyed 100's of feet below the point wher they became airborn. you can see remnent's still on both side's of the canyon..... comment by Kenneth L Boren..... 02-15-23
You missed on the directions, do not take 188 at Globe, stay on US-60 all the way to Salt River Canyon. 188 will take you to Roosevelt Lake, not Salt River Canyon.
Your map at the beginning doesn't show the salt river canyon. The salt river canyon is on the 60 not the 188. Also I'm disappointed you didn't get any of the many wrecked cars in the canyon. Great footage though, the scenery is really fantastic.
Your right, I realized that once I had uploaded the video, couldn't turn back, it will be updated in the description......didn't see any wrecked cars though
@@willhikearizona I will definitely search that! I've heard people mention it before in conversation here and there but never thought much of it, but that would cool to see and yet scary at the same time!
I would have prefered more video of the canyon and less of the bridge. But thanks for the video anyway. From Phoenix to !-40 with an 18 wheeler loaded with copper, I spent more time in the canyon that the entire rest of the route. Slow going with 80,000 lbs.
You got it boss! I actually had a similar thought, I was thinking that speeding up the reel a bit especially during transitions might make the videos a little more stimulating! Rather than have the same old bland drone shots. I'll be sure to implement on the next video 👍
