Dennis Bauer was featured in season two of Scenic Stops, an original program on WBGU-TV in Bowling Green, Ohio. Dennis lives in Bellevue, Ohio where he makes artificial Christmas trees out of fowl feathers. The first artificial trees were made using this practice in the 1800s, and Dennis' interest grew from collecting ornaments to making the trees when he learned that his family used to celebrate the holiday with such a tree. Dennis now makes trees not just for the Christmas holiday, but for holidays throughout the year, selling about 200 years a year as one of the three feather tree makers in the United States. WBGU-TV would like to thank Dennis Bauer for letting us explore your scenic stop!

My father had a white feather tree as a boy,he was born in 1909. When I was little he would put that tree in my bedroom. It was magical!

Oh! I am so happy right now! I have always loved feather trees and wondered how they were actually made so this is such a great insight into the art. At the beginning of the video I sat here thinking, "oh my gosh....I truly hope this man has been teaching and passing along this incredible talent to a family member" and then was so pleased to see that he openly shared how he makes them. Thank you so much!!! Someday, maybe I'll own one too :)

His trees are very good and are great to display ornaments of all types. My neighbor bought an imported one that has a very harsh chemical smell and is molting. I highly recommend these high quality trees. Thomas

How about feathers from Canada goose and dye them green and use them for Christmas tree? Several homes at Greenfield Village during the Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village do used the goose feathers for Christmas trees.

I inherited an old feather tree. It just broke in two on the flight home and I am heartbroken. I would love to learn how to fix it. I have no experience, but I am really willing to learn. I just want to fix the tree that sat on my parent's living room at Christmas when i was a child. I can pull it apart and figure out how to fix it, but more assistance would be really helpful

I would so love to Learn how to make the trees. I’m in canada and it’s hard to find out where to get the feather’s and even find someone who can teach you to make them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
