GearGasms as much as I love metal and hate to say it, it’s become to much of a niche market as far as guitars going. Metal guitars are great for metal but seldom good for anything else, where as for the “famous 4” Les Paul, SG, Strat & Tele, and ill ever count the Schecter Tempest in there too, can be used and setup for virtually any style of play

I got an HSH guitar with splitable humbuckers. Ever since I bought it I was thinking about getting a small splitable humbucker for middle position. This video shows how awesome it is. Brb.. Buying that humbucker:)
@noi5emaker
@noi5emaker 4 года назад
Great idea! I did that and love it. I split the single coil sized middle humbucker so that every permutation is noise cancelling. It took some doing trying to figure out which coils were north and south, but worth the effort. I never use the middle position, so I sacrificed that for the neck + bridge together. With a 5-way super switch and a toggle switch, I now have 8 selections, 6 of which are humbucking. Fun!

Hey Darrell, I work in a music store as an electronics tech and was wondering, have you ever tried or done a video on the difference between a humbucker that is wired with its coils in parallel instead of the regular series configuration? The parallel sound is like a somewhat over-wound single coil, but still works as a humbucker. Some would find the parallel option appealing. The Seymour Duncan Tripleshot pickup rings allow switching between series, parallel, or either coil single making the options easy to demo. Add a phase switch to a 2 humbucker guitar and I think that allows 40 possible combinations (with 8 of them being redundant because using each pickup alone when one is out of phase sounds the same as in-phase)!
@Jydmd
@Jydmd 4 года назад
Haplo Zetetic I'm planning a Les Paul build with Triple Shots, phase switch and global series/parallel switch. I found they're not that durable, I've heard a few people saying the wires ripped off. It's also not that easy to switch between positions if you're playing live and want to switch from let's say the bridge humbucking pickup to both pickups splitted. However I really enjoy the sound of a parallel-wired humbucker, but prefers the sound of inner coils when using both pickups together, so it's worth it for me!

For anyone considering this guitar: I used to own one, it was a fun guitar, I played it in a guitar shop years ago and enjoyed it quite alot. So it came home with me. 😁 Someone else mentioned the volume decrease when you switch between these positions/coil tap. Beware, the volume fluctuations are pretty extreme, it was fine for studio, however, don't expect to play live and switch positions without a volume petal/ or memorize volume knob placements for each position. Also, I consistently had the problems of strings popping off of the bridge. Granted I was probably heavy handed, but it happened waaay too many times. I do remember it breaking strings in the middle of live sets by popping off. 😕 The Bigsby perhaos doesn't provide a ton of straight downward force ( like a string thru body design ). I remember it being a heavy guitar. But I could be wrong. If you play with a lighter touch, and can handle volume shifts between positions, it was a good guitar. I loved the vintage asthetic.

Hi Darrell . I sit here having my breakfast listen to reviews on guitars every time you post one I cannot play at all but do have some guitars I'm 68 years old and my fingers don't move like they used to as I used to be a carpenter a cabinet maker making furniture over the years have a special windows but my hobby is actually restoring guitars I have around about seven or eight I pick him up very cheap in a secondhand store or at auction and then rebuild them. When I can afford it I will put Seymour Duncan is pick up Simon and all the other goodies so I end up looking like a mid do I hi end guitar 🎸. Do you ever fancy rebuilding or do you have a show rebuilds on your show. I'm actually located in France I am English . Stay safe in these bad times I hope you're all well as you know we're all in lockdown because of the virus. It's nice to see a happy person on the RU-vid link every morning when I open your link up very cheerful knows what he's talking about you come across as being a very talented guitarist I wish I had carried on years ago when I was in my teens early 20s learning the guitar 🎸 Phil from the Moulin in France, stay safe

eniatsuM evaD yup, that’s why Dave Mustaine plays a Tele, EVH prefers a broadcaster .. no truss rod. Zack loves his canjo, only guitar (ish) he’s recorded with since Ozzy... that solo on No More Tears... you guessed it, Mountain Dew canjo, the Mountain Dew ones have all the magic gooble gock that you hear the brain dead boomers going on and on about. OR, maybe, just maybe ... different types of guitars have different applications and Some guitars are more versatile than others (I’m lookin at you PRS) . Of course the player matters, no shite , the guitar doesn’t magically play itself.... except for Zacks MD Canjo.. it does plays itself .. cuz the devil 👿

Great demo of a near-perfect guitar. One (maybe two) missed opportunities: neck + bridge pickup combination only (like a "true" LP) is the big one. The other one, of course, is all three pickups on. Not as useful, I think, but, let's face it: *somebody* wants it. With a rotary switch, there really seems to be no reason not to provide all seven options. Still, Schecter has hit it out of the park again. They didn't smash any car windows in the parking lot. 😉 Thanks, Darrell. Terrific video, as usual. You, like Schecter, never disappoint!

I've been hoping and waiting for a review on one of these for a while because I love them, They have made some changes with the move away from the Duncan designed mini buckers and the pau ferro fretboard but the guitar is still awesome. I have one of the Ultra VI with the 30" scale and no bigsby and its still phenominal in that it gets tones like no other guitar I've ever seen. I figured Darrell would like it as it has a "contoured tele" style body (with some firebird accents and jag controls).

I'm not a huge fan of the style (not a retro guitar guy) but the versatility and quality are Schecter hallmarks. I think the Schecter line has something for everyone, so I hope people are considering them when they search for a new guitar, especially if they don't want to pay Gibson or Fender USA prices. There are so many good options out there now...Thanks for the review.

While not quite as versatile, I love the Schecter Stargazer 6, which also flew under the radar. I picked one up years ago and actually was disappointed at first because I was used to higher output pickups. When I started appreciating more classic tones I realized it's awesomeness. It's now my go-to guitar for gigs.

There's a Brazilian band called Supercombo, the lead guitarist uses the Schecter Ultra 3, but it's a band that turns their guitar sounds in something completely new, using a bunch of effects, it's a heavy band but it's not a metal band, it's worth checking out if you like these kind of things That guitar works very well with pedals, high gauge strings, and low tuning

Nice review, Darrell, as usual. Pretty thorough for a limited amount of time. Now get hold of a couple Eastwood models - I'm thinking specifically of the Backlund models Eastwood markets. Some qualify as genuinely "radical" in look. I have a "Twin Tone" that's pretty traditional-looking, and I also have a red "Gemini" that's right out of George Jetson, circa 1956.

I've got the Bill Nelson Astroluxe Cadet from Eastwood. I love the guitar. It's a bit similar to this Schecter. So happy companies like Schecter, Reverend and Eastwood are doing something besides trying to reinvent the wheel.......again! And so happy folks like Darrel are showing them to us!

Looks and sounds pretty amazing! I have an Ibanez AR-420 with 2 Humbuckers and Coil-Split switches and I loove having that versatility...

Schecter makes this model for years with lots of different variants. It used to be equipped with mini humbuckers of very weird size (artec made), but the tone was weak when split. I own a robyn fink signature with different headstock and Seymour Duncan bridge mini HB. It is a killer guitar (but not as versatile as yours) and it is airline red and looks gorgeous.

I'm surprised that as soon as I saw the back of the guitar I knew it was a Schecter. My mind went to the Cure signature model that's based off of this, so I'll admit I'm half wrong
