My dad has schizophrenia and his way of dealing with it is he got a dog to keep with him to see if what he sees is real if he doesn't see the dog running up to people he sees he knows it's not real

Keep going, man. I suffer from Bipolar II, PTSD and general anxiety. I self medicated myself with heroin (like an idiot...), but I got myself clean and sober. I got myself back in school and things are looking up. This is for everyone else; if you give yourself the chance, you'll succeed on your own road, because nobody can give you a chance like you can give yourself. Keep pushing on.

It's not "normal" for a child to hallucinate. I think you're confusing hallucination with imagination. Yes, a child might say they saw a dragon picking apples in their garden, but they didn't have that particular hallucination nor do they truly believe they saw that. They just have vivid imaginations. Very much like story telling.

Hey I just wanted to say that I think what your doing is awesome, I feel mental illness has so much negative stigma around it and needs to be accepted in the same way a physical illness is. I myself have been suffering for mental illness from a young age and its really great to see another young person being open with there illness :) Unfortunalty I havent been as sucessful in my quitting smoking endevour but il get there

I'm a new subscriber and I'm just going through all your videos, so sorry for all of the spam comments! I just wanted to say that you're very brave in doing this, by sharing your experience with schizophrenia. It definitely helps people with similar disorders but also people like me who are genuinely interested in learning about how peoples' lives can be affected by this. I just wandered by watching surgical procedure videos (I plan on being an emergency medicine physician) and this opened my mind up to the mental health arena where I haven't looked into before. Although, schizophrenia may make your life more different that I'll ever be able to understand, you seem like a normal guy that I'd want to be friends with! If you get where I'm coming from with that.

@MoneyBoyCJ
@MoneyBoyCJ 5 лет назад
petrol devo I’m no doctor this is just what it sounds like to me, do you think maybe your mistaking your thoughts for actual sounds? For example if you have a song stuck in your head you could be mistaking it for hearing music? I could be wrong hopefully this isn’t offensive but it’s just a thought
@petroldevo9934
@petroldevo9934 5 лет назад
@@MoneyBoyCJ I play songs in my head like when I'm working. But if I'm focused on a project and my focus is on point, I'll hear an occasional laugh as if someone was standing behind me. This happens if my head is clear. I've lived with this for so long it seems natural, but I know it's not. thanks for responding.
@MoneyBoyCJ
@MoneyBoyCJ 5 лет назад
petrol devo the fact that you are aware of these tells me that it most likely is not psychosis, there is such a thing as an inner voice that everyone has that can produce random thoughts uncontrollably. I think the difference is that people who suffer with psychosis believe that this voice is coming from an outside source. This is why some believe that god is talking to them for example. Plenty of other wise healthy people report hearing voices.. where it becomes a problem is when these voices command you to do things and you believe that they come from outside of yourself.

Nope :) It's not normal to hallucinate any time without using drugs. Children have fantasies, they act like they see things, but they really don't and they know they actually don't. It's always possible to think you see something from the corner of your eye or like a flash of something, but that is often the lighting or a reflection. Hallucinating, really seeing things that are not there, is never normal. It's so good to see you happy and appreciating everything ^^

"When focusing purely on hallucinations, a review of research found that 17% of 9-12-year-olds have these experiences at any one time." "... hallucinations can also be relatively innocuous and common in children who never develop psychosis." google takes 2 seconds idk why people gotta say shit so matter of fact when it isn't even right

I had been to a lot of funerals in my childhood as well. More than I can count on my hand. I feel like the effect it had on me is that I can't feel my own emotions, like a sociopath (I think?). I was the one to find my grandpa dead in my own house. I have been hallucinating since I was a kid as well. It wasn't extremely frequent though. I recently started seeing a psychiatrist and she explained to me what I experience are "sensory illusions" and not hallucinations. I've had my hair pulled, have felt bugs on me, heard voices in my head, seen dead people walking around, heard inanimate objects give me directions and feed me paranoid thoughts. I don't know what I have but I feel like none of my supporters (mental health team) really care or want to help me. I just want to feel "normal." I have been diagnosed with major depression and OCD. They think I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I'm on Cymbalta but it's not doing anything. I have really bad anxiety and panic attacks

Just gotta say too that Funerals can mess a person up (6:40). I sure know (in some ways) how you felt. I lost my Father a few years back, and it's still a struggle daily to stay engaged with Life and to keep pushing forward. Granted, I've lost many people in life (because I'm in my 40s), but the depth of relationship is what matters more-so when you have loss. So, I can see that (if it bothers me as much as it does at my age) I can't imagine what it would do to someone only 11 years old. Wow. You're a Survivor and I salute you for making so much progress in overcoming your obstacles in this life. Life's short and should be enjoyed, so I like your attitude. Hello! So, as a premise, I'm not fully diagnosed as schizophrenic - more like in the prodromal phase of the disease. I started therapy last april, after waiting to do it for all my life, and the therapist told me recently that if I won't cure myself, that's where I'll end up. Didn't know what to do with that info, but. Don't know if she was being honest or just trying not to worry me. I've always wondered about a lot of things I experienced when I was little, whether they were normal or not. I was very terrified of the dark - well, even now, it's pretty scary for me, but when I was little, I used to feel constantly like there was something behind me, trying to catch me, and when I ran to bed, I used to stare at objects, afraid I would see monster's faces. Well, sometimes I did. I only had one experience of auditory hallucination, though, which was pretty terrible on its own. On internet, it's written that schizophrenia usually arrives at 26 years old give or take, for women at least. So I guess that children who experience more symptoms of schizophrenia are exceptions? I don't know. I just hope like hell I'll never get to the point of having allucinations, because they creep the fuck out of me.

I had underlying paranoid Schizophrenia and uno how they say weed can bring out underlying schizophrenia..., well lets just say my mum was right, I got told that it might bring out schizophrenia but I didnt listen even though I should have known when I heard voices ONCE before my first episode of psychosis.

You are such an amazing guy. I deal with OCD which can't compare with schizophrenia hands down, and I sometimes gets so tired of it lol. Anyway, everything you said is true. There is a positive side and a negative side to mental illnesses. What you gotta do is take advantage of the positive and fight the negative, which is exhausting ofc, but very rewarding. I love how open you are about your disorder and you're not afraid to talk about it. That's incredible and is really helping a lot of people. Keep doing your thing and I'm so haply about you getting your GED. You're wonderful, don't ever give up. I know you're going soooo far, you're so smart and inspirational.

My twin brother is paranoid schizophrenic, my mother is schizoaffective and my rather seems bipolar at times, I was experiencing sleep paralysis and nighmares of demons chasing me, got cptsd from my past, and ever since I moved out from home, since I found out the diagnosis of my brother I went trough extreme mood swings and had trouble differentiating reality from my beliefs. It got better but I was studying occult stuff and I felt demon possessed. I prayed to jesus, to get rid of the demons, I got better. Now I’m kinda paranoid and my vision is weird. I feel like people are talking about me a lot. I‘ve got exams in a week and I haven‘t studied yet because I’ve been so occupied with religious research, now I have tinnitus and can‘t focus.

My mom has same coping mechanism as well. She has schizophernia. My coping mechanism similar to my mom tho I dont have schizo but constant depresive disorders. I tend to stay away from negative people. It makes me isolate myself coz my stressors are humans a lot of time. I am also severely introvert since i was a kid.

So you want me to embrace the fact I don't get anymore than 2-3 hours of sleep a day/night. Making the voices screaming at me to kill myself or another person, a part of me. What about the snakes and the hands coming out my walls laughing at how sweaty and paranoid also fearful I am of myself. "just deal with it" doesnt fucking work nor meds or cbt.

You have been really helping me on this journey of educating myself on this condition and it’s complex symptoms. You have given me so much hope. My daughters have both been diagnosed with schizophrenia they are 17 and 12 years old. You have helped me to understand what they are going through and how I can support them. Thank you for everything you are doing to educate and support others who are struggling. You are an inspiration and I love hearing about your relationship with your girlfriend and your desire to return to education. It gives me hope that my children will prosper just like you
