Schlage BE365 deadbolt How to fix not locking or unlocking with code

In this video we are going to take a look at a problem a fair number of the Schlage BE365 Electronic Push Button locks have and that is the deadbolt not locking or unlocking after you input the code (or press the Schlage button) If you can hear the motor doing something AND it has a new battery AND it is installed correctly BUT when you put the code in and the light turns green but the knob just spins and doesn’t engage this might be the issue
Fixed it!

nice fix, I picked an electric lock that failed due to bad installation, the mechanism was rubbing on the wire harness and eventually wore through, fixed it, works fine. have a great day

Lunch break first! After watching, I've got a friend who has one of these sitting on his table broke, and he just bought it. Thanks, Jason!

I've rekeyed these but never taken those lats bits out to see that pin. Kind of a weird thing to fail the way it did. Kudos to figuring it out and bringing it back to life. As always, thanks for all of the time you put into these videos and sharing the fix.

One little part can stuff up a lock and most people will just but a new lock in when the fix could be as easy as this. Thanks for doing this video. Cheers

Again How Timely Your Instructions are because last week, a friend who has one of these quit working and asked if I could find a way to fix. So now I can do this for her. Thanks again ☕

Thanks for the video. Have fixed about a dozen of those over the years by just repositioning the rack that goes over the spinning spring. Put a used one on my house around 2010 that had a broken battery connector got tired of dealing with it a few years ago and sodered on a quality 9 volt battery connector. Seems the ones that went bad were all installed around the same time about 6 years ago. Have only seen one bad motor. Have one that is not working and going to see if its the problem you found.

I've had varying degrees of luck "fixing these guys". These use to last so long, now this problem shows up usually within and 1.5 years, I have had a lot of them fail like this, or with that broken pin. I usually tell people that when this happens to either get schlage to warranty it, if it is within the warranty period, or get a new one. The prices on these are not too bad. And I won't guarantee the fix, cause I'll usually get a call back in about 6 months to a year with more problems I have almost stopped selling these unless people specifically request them. but is is cool to get a video showing the problem.

You got a similar lock you would recommend?
@jamespetkwitz8737
@jamespetkwitz8737 3 месяца назад
@@jmr there are plenty of keyless entry products on the market that I recommend. most are commercial products. It really depends on it's use case. I put on tons of basic Simplex/kabba keyless deadbolts. They hold up for decades and completely mechanical.. but most people now what don't like the looks or it's lack of bells and whistles. I don't have a residential grade keyless product I recommend as being particularly good... If you absolutely need the bells and whistles of multiple codes, internet or Bluetooth connectivity, easy to change codes, or apps.. non are good.. but buy a schlage product as they have the longest warranty of 3 years.

@jmr 3 месяца назад
@@jamespetkwitz8737 Thanks, I'm looking to buy something basic but very reliable for the rear door in case the front lock fails. Zero frills are needed for that. As is usually the case the "bells and whistles" were only cool for a short time on the front door anyway. 😂
@jamespetkwitz8737
@jamespetkwitz8737 3 месяца назад
@@jmr if looks are no issue and you are handy.. I usually recommend the Simplex 7100, it requires an extra hole to be drilled in the door. It is completely mechanical, a bit more complicated to recode .. only holds one code at a time, and has a fixed backset so you have to order the correct one. but they last a long time. been putting those on for decades

@@jamespetkwitz8737 Thanks, that lock doesn't look bad to me at all. Seems as though they have plenty of color options too (I don't care personally but maybe the wife will 😂).

Nice video! I'm thinking about a second keypad lock. I had a smart lock on the front door with Zigbee and remote control(Home Assistant for privacy). Almost none of the "smart features" got used after the first week. I replaced it with an electronic keypad lock without the bells and whistles. No regrets! I'm debating on whether to use a mechanical keypad lock or electronic lock on the back door now just to have a backup in case the front door dies and I don't have a key.

Recently, I had the exact opposite problem with this same type pin and sping in a Schlage CO-200. The latch was retracting when you turned the handle without the code. The pin had a bunch of goop on it making it stick into an unlocked mode.

Hi thanks for vid. I took mine apart my solenoid is engaging strongly but it's not releasing. And my door is not locking you can just rotate thumbturn and it just opens without code. Is there any fix ? Bad solenoid should I just buy another.

It’s fun to imagine some locksmith in the future opening this lock up to rekey and finding it packed with Houdini and not AI Nano Smart Lube. Cursing out Jason under his breath.
@selock
@selock 3 месяца назад
I consider myself pretty well versed in sarcasm but I’m a little unsure about this comment. You do know you won’t find Houdini “packed” in any lock right? I could empty the whole can in there and it won’t build up at all
@LCLockout
@LCLockout 3 месяца назад
@@selock I guess I meant packed by future locksmith standards. I was thinking about the equivalent of graphite. Like how you don’t like finding locks with graphite in them. One day there is going to be a futuristic lubricant that would make finding houdini in a lock seem like a nuisance.

For $100 it isn't worth it to take this apart and replace the motor which I have found to be the problem whenever it isn't the batteries. I no longer recommend the be365 or be375. They used to last forever but now they only seem to last a week past the warranty period. The encode is now the only electronic deadbolt I recommend.

@@selock I've found that same pin popped out a few times. Every one I was called out to investigate had a report of an inoperable unlock sequence using the keypad, the battery was low when I tested it, and the pin had popped out (for some darn reason). In an out in less than 30 minutes, lubing everything that moves inside, happy customer was worried about having to buy a new lock but didn't have too.
