Schmidt-Rubin K11 Carbine 

Nice. Seems that these Swiss rifles are one of the few remaining options on the market for surplus rifles.

A little heavy compared to a "proper" hunting rifle but they will certainly do the job.

Hey dude, Berdan Primers are hard to get nowadays, however, you can find them if you look hard enough, it used to be that they were widely available in Canada, but Idk what the situation is now. the brass that the 7.5x55 is constructed of is fully reloadable (If you have Berdan primers), you also have to make sure that you get them in the right size, it's not as easy as a boxer where you have the large and small type for Pistol and Rifle. it is a shame that the brass is such good quality with the GP11, well made, in some, better made than what is available as empty brass here made just for reloading. I wish that companies here in the US would go back to stocking Berdan primers. anyway, chewed your ear too much already, -Dave

@@Thorsaxe777 I'm pretty sure the GP-11 brass uses the LR - KV-7,62NATO Berdan primer. The source of Berdan primers that were most recently available several years ago came from Russian, the company that mfg. them is currently on the banned from importation list by the US Government. For 7,62 NATO cartridges

The GP11 brass is very nice for reloading. I have some RUAG 5620 Berdan primers that I've been using with excellent results in the GP11 brass. I've also used some Russian made Berdan primers that will fit the cases but are too mild for use with standard loads but they work with cast bullets and bulky and easy to light shotgun powders like 700x or Red Dot.

The K11 certainly has more robust looking "operating rod" than does the K31, bu the shorter bolt of the K31 does give it a stiffer action.

@@314299 Ya for sure. The k31 is superior in some ways but not as good in other ways. I think the old guy did it pretty well enough at that time of k11. Love Swiss rifles for sure. Well... In short... Love all rifles;-) Thanks for the response Sean

What size round does this use please? And how available?

From my experience most surplus rifles will shoot 4" to 5" groups for five shots at 100 yards (with surplus ammo), however my experience with the Swiss rifles and ammo have spoiled me a bit as I expect 2" groups from those.

Was your 308 conversion done by reworking the original barrel or did they put a new barrel on it?

@@314299 it looks to be a different barrel to me. All i can find out was that it was done by Golden State Importers.

@@scottmorgan1016 A new barrel would make more sense. Are there any other alterations that you can see? Any modifications to the bolt head for example?

@@314299 I don't notice any other changes to bolt head. I had some 7.5 Swiss rounds when I got the rifle. The bolt fit that round but would not chamber

@@scottmorgan1016 I had a look at your video and it seems to work just fine even with no alterations to the bolt head.

The chamber dimensions of this K11 are certainly different than those of my K31, cases fired in this K11 won't even come close to going into the K31. Since I neck size the brass I'll be segregating the brass to the rifle it came out of. As regards the relative accuracy of the K11 vs the K31, I think there are a couple of things going on. The first is the long rather flexible receiver of the K11, the second is the improved quality and consistency of the K31 barrel. Either rifle was an accurate military arm for it's time.

Some folks don't like the stamped operating rod of the K31, preferring the forged and machined one of the K11.

I have two K11’s, I sold a K31 to get the second one. I didn’t notice any difference in accuracy between them. My second K11 is a privately owned gun that never saw military service . Either rifle is as good as I am on that day . They either make you look really good or pretty bad , lol .

I would pick the K11 without hesitation. The K11 is a much nicer rifle to shoot, more accurate and there is a much better and larger selection of projectiles for it than there is for the Carcano, As for price 385€ converts at todays rate to about $556 Canadian dollars, which is a decent price for a K11 here in Canada.

Thanks for the feedback Kenneth, glad you like the video. It's hard to beat these Swiss rifles for all around function and accuracy. They are superbly manufactured and were well looked after by the citizen soldiers who were issued with them.

It has it's share of dings and wear but for such an old rifle it's in decent shape, no cracks in the stock and an excellent condition barrel.

@@314299 nice one! The long rifles of these models are hilariously long, with the sword bayonet included it's pretty much a spear :-D

It's hard to beat the K31 for an accurate surplus rifle. A Hammond game getter would be an interesting addition to your options as to how and where you could use your K31.

I've missed out on a few Swiss rifles myself, I should have picked up a cadet carbine while they were available.

I don't have a borescope. Also this rifle was purchased on-line and sent to me by mail so I could not inspect it in person, I was relying on the sellers description, which turned out to be pretty good.

The only ones I've seen as of late are the high priced ones.

I have a 96/11 long rifle but no 1911 long rifle. I was looking at some 1911 long rifles but they were a bit beat up for the money.
