Good morning everyone. I have watched this video over 60 times when I was going in training . This is the only video that helps me in passing my CDL license. It’s everything that you need to know.
1:05 Start from the top 2:10 starting engine, and frame parts 3:19 brake lines 7:53 service door 8:54 under the bus 11:25 budding wheels 14:00 behind the bus 14:55 the bus stop arm 17:20 engine start
In Tennessee we have way more things to say than this. We say it's not crack, damage, loose with no missing parts.. We also have to demonstrate the hood and front grill
My Instructor started off w/ the Air Brake Test which rekindled my memory loss of NOT doing 18 wheeler the past 3 years yet I knew something was OFF. We do NOT start w/ that Test. Real Drivers start as she started via viewing the Truck &/or Bus from the front looking underneath & down the sides to the back. The Air Brake Test should be one of the LAST things you do just prior to Emergency Brake & Service Brake Test. 👀 That order makes WAY more actual sense. Idk why my Instuctor is going out of order but w/e. I passed my CDL A so I will pass my CDL B nonetheless regardless
I passed my CDL Class B 2 hrs ago. I cannot begin to tell you how much your video/s helped me out. Following this one in particular did the trick. Thanks for taking the time to make and post it and for being an advocate for school transportation. Thanks again.
How wonderful, I’m thrilled to learn of your success today, Congratulations 🎉 I hope you enjoy the wonderful world of school bus driving! Continued success to you!
Just wanted to say thank you Theresa! I passed my CDL test this week. Your video helped me study and memorize all the bus parts and braking procedures. I really appreciate this video, super helpful 🖤🚌
Hi Therese, I have watched this video and other ones that you have probably 20 times over the last 2 weeks. Even though I'm in NY much of the pre trip expectations are very similar here if not the same. I had my road test today and passed. Your videos helped me out a great deal. Your detail is great. You do a great service for all CDL permit holders out there who have a road test coming up. Thanks for your help.
I have a CDL class A alrdy but I am currently training atm w/ a School Bus company to get my P/S endorsements to work for them. The Pre Trip and the Air Brake, Emergency Brake & Service Brake Tests are all identical. 90% of all the items you went over are the same as well including under the hood & the sides + underneath the Bus. Apparently I am relearning everything once again, all over again, such as names of components & proper wording but w/ extras specific to School Buses. 👍 thx for the upload 👍
Try not to let the pretrip overwhelm you. Much of the pretrip is nothing more than repetitive phrasing. Once you learn the brakes suspension and wheels up front, most of that can be applied in back. You can do this!
This is the best CDL pretrip video I have ever seen. I tested out for a Class C passenger endorsement, so it was a little different, but meets all the requirements. I probably watched and listened to this video more than 30 times and passed today with flying colors! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!
There are proposed changes, heading our way, in the not too distant future . Im hoping the upcoming changes will be what’s necessary to turn this trend in the right direction. While I can point out and name the parts of the bus, I have no idea how to repair or replace any of them.
I had a great trainer who highly recommended that I watch, study and learn from your Pre-Trip instructional videos. I Passed today with deep appreciation to you!
Outstanding news! Your hard work and efforts really paid off, Congratulations! Thanks so much for sharing your positive test outcome with me. I’m thrilled for you…continued success in all you do.
Hello Teresa, I just wanted to thank you for all of your wonderful insight and wisdom to keep the kids safe on the bus. Keep me safe in the bus in one piece thank you so much. I’ve been driving the bus with the kids for three months now I know I’m still kind of an new at this however, I make sure I apply the principles you help me to learn you’re the best.
Hello, Jerry… thank you so much for your very kind comment and feedback. Enjoy the journey… I’m still enjoying it even after 24 years. Continued success to you.
Thanks Therese, great video. I am a school bus driver trainer for Bristol Virginia Public Schools and I have used many of your videos, all very helpful. BTW, I'm originally from Dayton, Ohio. Spent plenty of time in my youth in the lovely town of Centerville. Thanks again and God bless.
Hi Dan, I’m delighted to hear from a fellow driver trainer and former neighbor! Thanks so much for your kind feedback…both are greatly appreciated! I hope you’re having a wonderful summer. When does Bristol go back to school?
@@SchoolBusSass we start back on August 17, but we've had June and July summer school sessions so we've been transporting students up until this week. First week of August we'll begin in-service safety meetings for drivers and bus aides as well as CPR and first aide recertification. The fun never stops 😆.
Our in service is the first week of Aug, trial runs are right after in service, a kick off meeting on the 15, and back to school on the 17. I think summer school programs finished up today. Have an awesome school year.😁. Always an adventure!
I just got my class-B CDL in Taiwan, our pre-trip is only 5 minutes lol. I am really surprised by the details and knowledge required over in the states.
Are country's pretrip is ridiculously long and unreasonable. Welcome to the America of the future run and regulated by over educated children. Show me any school bus company that could afford to realistically do a 30 minute pretrip multiple routes a day and survive financially or keep drivers employed? And asking people to do this all straight from memory and not use a guide or log sheet that you have to have on board anyway is beyond moronic. I've been driving for 15 years and the amount of difficulty they have added to these tests since i began is beyond stupidity. My first test i was allowed to have the exact study sheet along as a helpful guide. All you had to know was where those parts are. And that's all anyone should have to know.
@John yesss.. Exactly! smh.. it is absolutely unfair that we have to memorize all of that! I have to take mine again.. & pay $450 to retake it (failed the pre-trip test bcz the instructor didnt hear the "cheee" sound after psi built up to the 120).. smh.. this is so frustrating & I'm realllly struggling financially 😫
This is great!! Thankfully my state (NJ) just announced that we do not have to know under the hood and only a couple parts under the bus. The parts we do need to know, we need to know more in-depth. Thank you for this!!
Thank you Therese. This video has helped me a lot. I'm taking my test today and I feel pretty confident after watching this video several times. God bless you!
It’s a great day to get your CDL!!! Best wishes for a successful test outcome, Reggie! If you think about it, let me know how things went for you today.
@@SchoolBusSass Hey. So I didn't pass because I failed the air brake section of it. I didn't realize how important that part was in the test. Now I know. I'm retaking the test this Thursday.
@@reggie4Jesusood evening regie. I have a question for you. When you said you failed you're test because of the air brakes, does this video have about the air brakes. I'm a bit confused by the way congratulations for passing you're test.
Outstanding news, Jmiller! Congratulations on your successful test outcome! Thanks so much for sharing your positive test results with me! Enjoy the journey 🚌🚌🚌
Thank you so much for making this video❤! It was the sole reason why I passed my bus inspection with the DOT in North Dakota. The examiner was impressed with my knowledge of the bus.
Thank you so much! I have my test tomorrow. I was struggling not being able to see some of the parts in order to understand the verbage; pointing out and showing the parts helped tremendously. You made it effortlessly.
Ranch Hawk, Thank you for your comment and feedback! I believe we will be doing another live feed soon...possibly Friday. It will be on School Bus Safety ROAD-E-O. If you are not familiar with the event, it is a safety driving competition for school bus drivers. We have not had one in over two years, so I'm looking forward to the event that takes place in April. We set up a course, similar to the up coming event. I will have one of our drivers demonstrate the different events that will take place. We will also be utilizing this course for in-service training. I have a few more ideas for up-coming videos, so stay tuned. Sorry for the long delay between postings.
Currently I’m a new bus driver at our school district in Mississippi. I haven’t had the chance to experience the Road-e-o driving competitions yet. Can’t wait to see your next video.
I have my permit to drive bus so I've been watching this and memorizing what you say so I can get my license with p and s endorsement!!! Thank you for the helpful video
The company that I've been training with, and have an exam with tomorrow for my CDL B, has been training in a different order for the air brake test than shown here. Inside pre trip inspection(seats, emergency exits first, then gauges) followed by ABT. First: Wheels chocked, , neutral, engine on, pressure built up to max, shut off engine, parking brake applied, static air brake test (1 minute, no more than 2psi air loss) Second: Parking brake in, service brake(pedal) firmly held (1 minute, no more than 3psi air loss) Third: Fan brakes down to 60psi until low air warning and buzzer comes on Fourth: Keep fanning brakes down to 20-30psi until parking brake applies, indicating the spring brake is applied. Secure key and remove chocks(do not leave bus while engine running, even if just to move chocks) Fifth: Safe start engine, pressure will build up to 85-100psi in 45 seconds, then governor will cut in with the brakes "woosh" sound Sixth: Shift into low gear, press on accelerator pedal to confirm parking brake holds Seventh: Release parking brake, drive forward 5 feet, braking to make sure the bus doesn't pull to the left or right. Repeat 2x. Then pull the parking brake, put it in neutral, and say "this now completes the air brake test"
I live in South Carolina I think hold service brake push in parking brake shouldn't lose no more than 3 Psi or push in parking brake than apply service brake
@@SchoolBusSass Also, just updating my situation. I went and took my exam on Wednesday, and passed. I did the full Pre Trip Inspection including ABT, Alley Dock, 100 Foot Backup, Offset parking, Simulated Railroad Crossing, Simulated Student Dropoff, road skills test along with an emergency stop. I was watching your videos late Tuesday night and before leaving in the morning of Wednesday. I really appreciate you making these videos. I will highly recommend your videos to any trainees I encounter. One thing I especially like about your videos is the production quality. The videos are clear, detailed, and the voiceover audio is so much clearer compared to many other videos that drown out the audio by using the recording from inside the bus(bus noise, wind noise, etc)
Just wanted to say hi from sandusky ohio and a big thank you for this video I passed my pre service ,pretrial test today and will be on the road soon again thank you
Rena… Ohio has had some recent changes to the pretrip….i have an updated version on my channel . If you are in a different state, check with your local test site for specifics. Best wishes for a successful test outcome.
The proposed changes to the pretrip here in Ohio, have the engine start and brake tests first as well. Though we do not know when these changes could occur.
This is part 1 of the pre-trip. Hello Cody! Just the person I was hoping to hear from!! Thank you so much for your letter! I somehow misplaced your address, though, and have something to send to you.
@@SchoolBusSass I wish the buses in my state had airbrakes like yours do. We do have somewhat long winters and can get kind of wet Does this have to do with the type of bricks that are able to be used?
@@steamtrack8308 Sometimes they feel like they go on forever...;) I would say...Dec - March. This year, we have had a very cool spring. How about your winters?
Hi Julius, to empty the air tanks, push down on the service brake pedal repeatedly until the parking brake sets itself. Warning light and buzzer will activate above 55 PSI and brake will set between 20-40. Probably not doing another brake test. The brake portion of the exam can be found on all of my pretrip videos. As for a new pretrip, I will probably do one late this year or into the new year, on a BB RE transit.
I will have to check, and let you know. I’m on vacation at the moment…but when I return, I’ll get that information for you. That is exactly why I liked them. Thank you
Hello everyone I'm here watching all the videos I can to try and get my CDL Class B License for the school bus in Ohio I'm just starting and I have had two days of training for the pretrip so far And I hope and pray 🙏 ❤️ Im able to pass it im trying really hard too
Hi Patricia, our entire fleet have air brakes. If I can locate a hydraulic equipped bus, I will see what I can do to create a pre trip video. Thanks for your suggestion.
I believe we have 2 IC conventional special need busses, 3 IC Conventional, and 3 Blue Bird RE's coming in June. One of the RE's will be my new bus this year. :)
Questions do you have to check all emergency windows and sound the buzzer or could you just say i would check all windows and sound the buzzer the same way i checked the first window and hatch buzzer and not check the to save time as well as the tires and brakes slack adjuster and push rods
Correct for windows and exit doors and hatches. Must check push rods and slack adjusters, in front and rear on one side of the bus, then, you can say you would check the other side of the bus the same way.
@SchoolBusSass one more question while the engine is on do you keep the headlights on while checking heater fans and dome lights and emergency windows buzzers or do you turn the headlights off because I'm wondering about the no students left button and when to push it, or the lights don't have to be on and you press the button after you done the air brake test
The headlights should have no bearing on the no child left behind alarm. Using your loading lights with your service door, will activate your no child left behind system.
I’ve had my class A for a year now but can’t use them because of the hours at each job. I have children I have to pick up from school and daycare. I have to do this all over in a bus just to get passenger and school bus endorsements smh 😢😢😢😢😢 after this I’ll be a bus driver 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Pretrip: Try to slow things down, just a bit. People tend to talk faster when they get nervous. Maneuverability: If allowable, always check your final position for each maneuver you complete. Even if you are positive you’ve done the maneuver perfectly. If it’s a free look…take it. Gives you a moment to check out your awesome skills…😉 or, correct an issue you may not have seen from the drivers seat. For instance…in straight line backing, perhaps you stopped behind the 4th set of cones but there were five sets. A final check would reveal this and afford you the opportunity to correct your final position (hope that made sense) Driving: take your turns slow! It will give you the opportunity to correct any potential errors…like clipping a curb). I would much rather have my drivers take a, slightly wider, right hand turn, than clip a curb. A wider turn, may be a few point deduction, clipping a curb ends your test…not in a good way. Whenever possible stop at all yellow lights. Believe…achieve it! You’ve got this, Mike!
Hi! you had mentioned in your video about links that would provide more in depth detail. I didnt see them in the comments section. would you be able to provide links if possible? thank you
In my experience, it takes most people about 5-7 times conducting the pretrip, in person, to complete the pretrip in the allotted time with under the error limit.
before you replied on my comment about the time for training, they had me scheduled for tomorrow road test now they decided i dont have enought hours the lacking time here is seat time its more pre trip that driving its like you having a funnel with a small bottle trying to stuff it all in there the passing rate isnt high here every canandiate complains, i'm watching this video you have its not exact what we do but close
@@SchoolBusSass• Truckers hauling 80k lbs have such issues routinely hence the DOT has setup strategic “Runaway Truck Ramp” locations most notably in areas like Colorado or wherever Truckers traverse Mountainous regions. Yet I highly seriously doubt School Buses will ever experience such minus Class Trips across Mountainous regions unfamiliar to the driver which is realistically never going to happen since even those Trips are Pre Planned Routes.
@@SchoolBusSass• We actually use a method called “Engine Braking” which works even for School Buses. You slip into lowest Gears &/or via an Automatic into 2nd or 3rd or whatever then allow the Engine to slow you down. You brake a little to help the engine then release brakes. Wait a few seconds & brake a little again. Rinse & Repeat. If you hold down the Brakes full time you can & will overheat them then lose them.
@@SchoolBusSass• Btw you ran the Pre Trip like a BOSS. It’s been 3 years since I drove an 18 wheeler yet you did everything exactly the way we did everything so thx for helping me w/ my memory loss ‼️
Hi, Do You Have Buses That Use These Fuels: -Gasoline ( Petrol ) -Propane ( LPG ) -Compressed Natural Gas ( CNG ) -Electric ( EV ) I Know You Have Diesel Buses.
Hello, Michelle, The district I drive for, only has Diesel, though when first started with Centerville, they had a couple of propane busses. That was twenty years ago though.
Sorry to learn you had a hard time hearing me. I was wearing a mic, so I’m not sure what happened. I have two additional pretrip videos, perhaps one of the others might be easier to hear.
