And here when I was on a 2019 EFX before I was put on the Special Ed bus here, we CONSTANTLY had to take our 2017 EFXs (which were spares) because our 2019 was a LEMON. And then the district bought a 2024 Bluebird Vision and put it on our route.
We are getting spoiled right now one of my co workers is out due to shoulder surgery so we have been using his brand new bus as a sub bus while he is out neither he or the boss have any issue with it so we are getting majorly spoiled right now
I'm so glad for you. There are many drivers stuck on buses they hate but they make the best of it. One of the things I love most about my fellow drivers. Thanks for watching and have a great school year.
I know how it feels! I've had multiple sub busses. One bus, all the seats were so dusty and nasty, and tore up! But I also feel bad for those unused busses! They are waiting to be used. Good luck with the spare! It's much better having your old bus.
@@misshoodsschoolbuslife1871 I Would Love To Ride That 2002 International versus an '09 International With That Maxxforce 7 and I Wouldn't mind all the dirt and also I would drive 0296 Vs 0930 Because 0296 Has That Lovely DT466 and NOT A POS Maxxforce 7
I Personally would love to drive the SUB Bus you had even though its rattily and I'm only 14. I would buy one of those because they practically run forever if their properly maintained. Especially the DT 4900. Love the way the engine sounds. and most of the screws in the roof panels are missing, but that's less work to get them down! Im gonna buy one in a couple of years when im 16 and convert it into a schoolie.
Well, Christopher, if I had the power to give it to you, I would. LOL! Sounds like you have some interesting plans for your future. Thanks for watching!
I HATE driving sub buses too. I feel blessed that I got to drive a 2022 CE sub bus, and its still a sub. The bus is crap though. The reflective tape is peeling and it has a dent
I passed my CDL road skills at DMV over a week ago and I have, this past week been driving kids with someone observing me. I hope to get signed off this week to have my own route or begin to sub. This is all my mind so much I had the weirdest dream last night and it was so funny. I just have to share it with you. first of all I was driving down the road and I could not get the bus to steer correctly. then my dream switched, there were three boys I picked up from the high school but then I am sitting in the student seat and there's really four boys and is driving the bus and I'm asking him, why are you driving? then my dream switched again and I'm talking to someone and saying to him I have got to go secure the bus because I forgot to pull the release to put the brake on and the bus is rolling. then lastly, I'm in a building talking to someone in a school, trying to to find my bus. Funny all my fears came out in a dream.
Saltwater Pines School District uses that same number system. My bus usually is 1969 so it’s a 2019, plus its the 69th bus purchased. I don't care about sub buses. Well I noticed this little sticky note on 1969 earlier this morning, it said: "I usually get tired of riding on the same bus over and over again, so when I ride a different bus, I get happy, but If the driver is different I will be sad", the note came from someone called Samantha McDanny (a high school student),That note is pretty weird because of the numbering system my district uses.
I’ve been in a sub bus for months at a time. Once we had to get a new stop sign. I rode a 2007 Bluebird EC72 which is a rare bus. 28 were made. Anyway, now I ride a 2020 Bluebird Vision powered by a FordTriton 6.8 Liter gasoline. Our subs aren’t bad. We replaced pretty much The entire fleet this year. Some spares are 2012s. I rode a 2009 IC CE300 which is like 0930. Only it was 09-84 and 09-86. 86 I rode on am and pm, and 84 I rode for a few Field trips. Our fleet is decently sized, but nothing to the Jefferson County fleet.
Oh gosh! Months at a time. I would be extremely weary but when my bus was 0607, it was in the shop ALL the time. I think I was in that sub bus half the year. Yes my 0930 was a 2009. You know that's how we number our buses based on the year of purchase. All of your buses are new now?!?!?! That sounds REALLY nice. Thanks for watching!
@@misshoodsschoolbuslife1871 NP. I assume 0607 was a 2006 Thomas FS65?? We do have some old 2004s. But, they are blacked up. Yes, for my area of the county, with the exception o a few of the handy buses, We are all 2019 and up Gasoline bluebird visions. They cost us $110,000 each.
Yes they are Andrew! Their heaters are the best. Lol! The newer the bus, the cheaper they are made. It's exciting when everything is new but very disheartening when time passes and you see the quick deterioration of a brand new bus. By the middle of the school year, my new bus leaked and the windows were falling open. I was sad.
I know how it is to get a sub bus. When I started driving I got a sub bus turned into my route and it was dirty and moldy that I cleaned it and brought it back to life and when its broke down I always have to clean the sub bus because they are dirty but they do drive well and I miss my "Casper".
Ugh, spares. I always felt bad when I would be given a spare, I couldn't give the bus the cleaning the care it needed. When I drove a wheelchair bus, I came to hate some of the spare wheelchair buses because they had different floor restraints that were so annoying and I wasn't trained to use those specific restraints, so I never got the hang of them. I still managed to lock wheelchairs in them safely, but I fumbled with them all the time. Since I have a toddler, I usually can't find the time to clean the spare or refuel it. Sometimes I just have to bring it back and say, "Yo, I couldn't fuel it up because I was busy all day and I have appointments to attend." I'm glad the mechanics seem more understanding to moms with small children. Funny enough, I noticed that at first employment, the spare buses were just awful. They were old, they had minor issues and they were not taken good care of. But my current employment, the spares that I've been on are brand new or very well kept! One spare I drove only had 4000 kms on it! Still dirty, but I wouldn't mind taken it for a ride. I've also been lucky that all of my PMs happen in between my runs so I just have a spare to go home in the morning and to come back for the afternoon.
Wow, Blue Collar Den! You have certainly had some experiences. I'm glad life is better for you these days. I admire your courage in staying with the job and finding something better. Thanks for watching and give your small children a hug for me.
Haha I know how u feel when you get a buger bus n it’s true the spare buses r dirty n old . Last year my driver n I had to get a spare bus cause our bus was in the shop cause of the air conditioning went out! Here in las cruces we have 2023 school buses all of them has air conditioner n radio n intercom
I feel your pain I’ve been on a sub bus for a month I legit went through the yard with a friend and scrubbed all the sub buses too to bottom til they were immaculate so annoying lol
In Virginia beach where I live I like Thomas c2 because it has a am/fm radio, but it I lived in henrico county I would prefere Thomas hdx because it's a transit school bus, the a flat nose, and am/fm radio
I know what you mean, Jamarius. I felt that way when I was driving 0607. Hope your county gets money soon for new buses. I'll add you to my prayer list. Thanks for watching!
I started the school year off driving a 85 and at first I didn’t like it because I trained on a much newer bus. But then I wind up liking it. Last week, I got a 2008 bus and it’s alright, I guess.
An 85! Wow. It's tough changing buses in the middle of the year. I always hate that. We have some 2008s at our compound but they are still considered older buses. Our 2004s were put out to pasture this past year and became sub buses. So, in a few years those 2008s will be subs. Thanks for watching!
Wow, your sub buses are newer than the buses in my lot, our sub buses are from 1985-1999. I’m not a school bus driver yet, but during my training we got to drive one of the 1994 International Blue Birds! (I can’t drive a school bus until I turn 19, I’m 18, I have my CDL Permit just got to wait til I’m 19 to finish my training)
So I play this game on my computer where you can make buses and drive them and it has multiplayer so you make make virtual companies so after watching you i started to like the buses that jefferson county public schools has so i started to make the buses on my game and id be happy to send you some pictures of how there coming out. i think its pretty cool! :)
After communicating with bus drivers all over the country, Elijah, I'm getting the picture. Hope things change for you and they find money somewhere to replace those old buses. Thanks for watching!
In my district for sub busses you don’t have to put the route number on the window so this confuses some kids they have to write under the bus chart “no number” some mean kids erase it so kids miss the bus and they also switch the arrows so kids miss the bus also
Somethings never change. No one likes the sub bus. At least you sub bus is on par with your regular bus. In my days riding on the ol' "Tolley Cruiser" bus number 7, which was a 1993 model (delivered in '92) Blue Bird TC2000 with a radio/cassette player/PA system and roof hatches (ram scoop A/C), when we needed a sub for inspections or break down we got ol' 24. Miss Hood, that was the worst rig in our fleet back then. Stick shift, shook you to death when the clutch was popped going from gear to gear or taking off, musty smell, no roof hatches, no radio. And instead of the nice brown seats and Tan interior of our Bird, this ol' Thomas was GREEN. Green paint inside with green seats that were NOT comfortable. We took care of our bus 7 cause all Mr. Terry had to do was threaten to trade it for number 24! NOOOO!
Love your story. I actually laughed out loud. Yep. Our sub buses aren't too bad. I think we hate "moving". Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching rebel1701.
