Totally agree. Young players often want to really stay on the beat and this song intentionally just feels like it's trudging through the mud. Simple hits, harder to get that sludge-y feel. Love it!

Awesome job team!! You all truly honored a great singer, a great band, and a great song. I also love seeing the headless bass & guitars. It took nearly 25 years for them to get past the stigma of being too weird. I got my first headless in 1990; a 4-string Status that I still have. I've since added four more from other companies. The weight and mobility are huge benefits. Getting and staying in tune are nearly effortless. And not worrying about smacking anybody with my headstock frees up my concentration in tight spaces. (Thanks Ned Steinberger!) But I do have to shout out my favorite sounding basses, the Sire M5's & M7's. They play great, too. Anyway, I'll listen to this a few more times then I'll be ready for more School of Rock!!

Musically the performance is great. The key was too low for the vocalist. The vocals lacked emotion and soul. The beauty of Chris Cornell was his bluesy soulful sound. He had rifts and runs. These kids have do much talent but they’re so focused on accuracy they’re not allowing themselves to feel the lyrics. A big part of being a great performer is the ability to tell the story through the song. Vocally this was not a strong performance.

Singer here: definitely not too low of a key. It’s actually not even very low if you try and vocalize it for yourself or play it on a piano. The vocalist clearly has the notes/register, it’s just a matter of tone. She’s too dark, which is a super common mistake when singing low that adds unnecessary weight and makes the notes sound more cumbersome. If she lifted her sound a bit more and brightened it up, it would a sort of lift that weight off of the airflow and allow for more freedom for the expression you so desire. Regardless, she’s clearly super talented! I can’t say I’d change anything about it besides making that minor adjustment of brightening that overly tall sound :)

There’s also the matter of keeping the soft palate lifted throughout a musical line. In the opening of the song, at the end of the first line, you can hear her completely drop her soft palate as she descends into “knows,” which feels as heavy to sing as it sounds heavy when listening to. It’s a very easy fix though, and really just corresponds with the whole idea of keeping a lifted brightness to the sound. Love and well wishes- only leaving these comments in hopes somebody can learn something from them :)

Sorry y'all, but if I am being honest....this was ever so painful to listen to. I could not make it through. I did skip forward to see if it changed key or style or something. Nope. Completely missed any and all emotion and the entire point of this song. The low slurry, because I am not sure what else you call it, singing was atrocious. Seriously? I have seen some amazing music come out of these groups and I have to say I am shocked. Chris Cornell has big shoes to fill. Not just in his voice, but his song writing. So, this is not an easy song to pull off and this was another example. I am sorry. But.....yeah. It really was not good at all.
