A number of School of Rock students head to Rax Trax in Chicago, IL for the first time to record "Oye Como Va" by Santana.

When I first clicked on this, I wasn't sure how it was going to go, because they are "little kids". 5 seconds into it... I'm blown away! Great job, very impressive for this age group.Keyboard solo great! Guitars, percussion, vocals all awesome. Happy day!😊

I am so impressed & encouraged by these students/performers. I am a musician and music instructor, and I'm so uplifted when my students give a perfect performance at a recital. The stress and tension of performing for an audience or for recording equipment & cameras can be immense. BRAVO! To all of you!!

He amazes me everytime I watch this. Can someone check inside his mouth at +/- 0:25, does he have a tongue piercing? The scene goes by very very fast. Doesn't take away his talent, just makes him very cool ;-)

Pure WOW! I've seen Santana live 10 times since 1975, but I just wanted to say this guitar player here is so good. I also play guitar and this kid can play, he is smoking on this song. Amazed!!!

10 times! Wow! I first saw them in 1973, Auckland Civic Theatre - and you could not find a better venue for Santana. Go find some of the photos - mind-blowing place for mind-blowing music!!

@@GedMaybury23 Ok I'll search for the Auckland place. I still remember one of the first times that I heard Santana, it was Evil Ways. I must have been 8 or 9. OMG, I was dancing and just grooving! After that, all I wanted was to get a guitar and play like Carlos!! He is da man!!

REALLY impressed with this group of kids! I wish I could have been playing Rock at 11 or so, but I was stuck with a cello and 8 notes with 'Canon in D'. I started Guitar 2 years later, and Bass a year after that, but these kids are already better than when I was at my peak at 21!

This was a wonderful performance. Keep it up kids!! And for those commenting on enthusiasm issues - they are kids not professional musicians! they react differently than adults, especially when performing in an unfamiliar studio for the first time ever - I would bet many adults would react the same way if this was their first time in a studio as well - the fact that they could play so well despite the nerves is a huge thing. Great performance again! Hope to see more!!

Aside from the fact that the lead guitarist and keyboard player are fantastic, the band is terrific. Love this video. . This not an easy song to cover and they killed it !!!!!!!!!!!!

A classic song that I still love 53 years later. Language is no barrier to a classic song. These kids don't look to be anymore than 11 to 13 years old at the most but they nailed this one big time. Amazing talent.

People in the comments keep saying the look bored and stuff but no. The kids are having fun and being passionate about this and I’m saying I can see it when they all start dancing and yes they’re smiling often. Also they keep straight faces cause they are most likely concentrated on playing their instruments or singing. And these kids are young and don’t deserve to be criticized at, THEY HAVE EXTREMELY GOOD TALENT!!

i grew up listening to this because my dad would put it on, I'm 30 and absolutely love this song still and he was in a Santana covers band and some of the members were not THIS good , this has blown me away

I can't comment on the lyrics issue but I thought this was great. You try getting what 17 11-year-old kids to do something in sync like this in a recording studio probably for the third or fourth time. And they were still cracking smiles. Kids at work here. What do you look like when you're at work? What do you think your favorite recording stars looked like in the studio at 3:15 am after the 12th take?

So cute! These kids will look back on their "simple" playing and look for improvements, they will cringe at the butchering of Spanish, but they did it just the way kids are supposed to and for that should be proud. Good job!

Besides, I started playing music at a young age and it truly brings joy to me when I see kids playing real music, real instruments, real guitar, real drums. It truly makes me happy when I see that. Did they ever have a “ Battle of the Bands “ between the schools.? Just say you give them 3 identical songs to play and one or two songs of their own choice. It would be a classic show I’d buy tickets and travel to see. Being a pro lead and bass guitarist for 60 yrs these kids ( all schools included ) are drenched in talent. I’ve had some prized students and if they were my students I’d be sitting in the audience like a “ Proud Papa “

I liked it and gave it thumbs up. I think the percussion group and the organist were on point. The lead and bass guitars were on point, but looked board or robotic. The singers, "Eh!", they did good, but I think they need more practice. A decent production of the song all around.

Awesome and outstanding performance by these "kids." Sure beats Camptown Races which was one of the first songs on learned on guitar. Organist and guitarist killed it on their solos but they all were all super. I guess these are amongst the best students they have. Impressive that this school pumps out kids that can learn this rock music and play instruments rather than playing loops on a computer and thinking, "Hey I am a musician." Again, awesome- coming from a guy who has played 50 years and done a couple of albums.

some of the parts are quite advanced; particularly the lead guitar and the keys (they're very well beyond their age in terms of skill). i've seen professional cover bands that would struggle with this song, unlike these students
