School social work has become increasingly important to the educational process as communities strive to make their schools safe and inclusive places for students to learn. Today’s students are more at-risk than ever when it comes to mental health, physical safety, and the security of their futures. With the COVID-19 pandemic, structural racism, the cultural genocide of Indigenous children brought to light, gun violence, and police brutality, there has never been a more urgent need for school social workers.
Join School Social Work experts Aidyn L. Iachini (University of South Carolina), Carol Rippey Massat (Indiana University), Cassandra McKay-Jackson (Erikson Institute), Kate Phillippo (Loyola University Chicago), James C. Raines (California State University, Monterey Bay), and Emily Shayman (Lewis University), as they discuss some of the tough issues facing school social workers today. Topics include anti-racist practice, racial trauma in schools, planning for prevention in a crisis, adapting to pandemic conditions, and ethics in an epidemic.
