My personal interpretation of this, was that the sun WOULD rise one day, and they had just-enough bulbs to wait until that day came. But one member rushed the process and doomed them all.

The beauty of this kind of story is that it can be interpreted many different ways. It just affirms that the film is a work of art and an expression of a vision the writer had. Perhaps the idea came from a dream or some other source. The point is it doesn't matter, take it for what it is whether you like it or not.

I was completely charmed by how wonderfully this photomechanical world (and its inhabitants) were realized. So charmed, in fact, that I was caught entirely off guard at the end. As the screen went black, I wondered: better to have a small, carefully-tended life, or better to risk it all for something more? The characters in this film decided it was better to soar--if only for a moment. And for me, that was enough.

Anything that runs on solar (light) is electrical. Given the fact that they had electricity to power the light bulbs, you'd think they'd figure out how to plug themselves directly into the power source, instead of wasting all their time drawing pictures of a sun that no longer existed. Just saying.

If they were totally logical, cold, personality-free machines only, sure. But that would be a ten second clip. Robots that dream, reach, hope, yearn, and risk things for those hopes and dreams are machines, but they’re also very much people in their own way-in a way like us. It’s beautiful, and tragic, and, if you assume this is set after humanity created this race and then somehow went extinct, it’s what I’d like to believe a race of machines created by humans would be like-capable of impossible dreams, hopes for what’s been lost, able and willing to device Hail Mary plans for what they yearn for, and the willingness to fly towards those dreams, even if it means risking falling, too.

Robot's are only as smart as the person programming. Do you think anybody out there can think of all the situations that one might find themselves in AND have the solutions to all those potential problems? There is nobody out there that knows everything so therefore the robots are going to be as limited as its creator(s).

I think the Idea here was more of them getting powered by light, in a sense that they arent solar powered or so but more powered by the light. It sounds a bit confusing but I dont think its about them needing electrical power but more needing the light to continue working.

4 years later and this movie still has me questioning what it's supposed to me, my interpretation is 1. Is a moment of short freedom better then living forever and in misery Or 2. Should we be patient and wait for the correct moment and instead of trying to rush it There is many more interpretations i have read, and i think that's the beauty, it's art it can be interpreted as us the viewer want and maybe the artist had no clear idea, maybe they did but i find it interesting to think and talk about

I interpreted it as the selfishness in the world. Here we see the selfishness of one particular robot, to deny the others from reaching their potential. He hogged up this great light resource, turned it on, all the others were able to charge up and reach their physical potential to fly.... only to have this energy source robbed from them and then they collapsed, all because of ONE particular robot, who could have used his resourcefulness for the good, rather than selfishness.

Good Short. Spoiler Alerts (Kinda)... I had to read the description after watching to be sure I really understood it. The short shows two things. 1- Be careful on knowing your needs from wants, as a want can destroy a need. 2- Never depend on 1 system, always have redundancy built into any system. The "sun" failed so all died..
@Tinmann_77
@Tinmann_77 7 месяцев назад
If the one hadn't stolen all the bulbs to make the "sun" they might have had enough to last until the real sun rose. Their designer left them with a redundant light source to keep them going while they maintained their lighting systems, seems like it was well thought out.... however the their who made the large globe didn't plan for what would happen in the inevitable circumstance where the bulbs burned out.

I took it as If you have to live a life day in day out with no hope, spread your wings and fly above it even for just a moment.

My view on it is that one shouldn't spend long time resources on short time ideas.

Steam punk, OK. No words,OK. Ending sad. It could mean so many things. But not good things. One of them had a crazy idea that didn't work and took everybody with him. They didn't seem to have a choice. The wings came out even if for just a moment. Were they awaken just for a moment? Was that better than continuing the life they had? Was it worth it?
