I remember this one. I love that the entire shoot was planned around a an actual eclipse and that they used geo-tracking data to figure out when exactly to shoot it to achieve that amazing one-shot of Tatiana running during the eclipse and reuniting with Tom once the sun comes out again. Really powerful filmmaking!

I prefer bad practical effects to good CGI, and I was wondering how they made the eclipse and lighting look so good. Thank you for pointing this out!

One of the best things ive seen on Dust. She not using the car to go back was the only weak part of it.

The entire shoot was planned around a real-life solar eclipse. If she sat in the car it would have been a lot more difficult to fit her and the actual eclipse into one frame. And seeing her run on foot, out of breath and panicking feels a lot more intimate and emotional. I guess they could have written the car breaking down or something, but from a filmmaking perspective, I think that continuous shot of her running and reuniting with Tom as the eclipse ends was the strongest part of the film.

a very nice story. With lots of unanswered questions, but that's what makes it so challenging. She says to him that he doesn't know the world out there because he's been here his whole life. Why did she only come to it later? What is the task of the Chosen, are the members of the group still children being raised by her? That would explain why the leader is so much older. Is the voice on the tape the founder of the group, or also a Chosen One? Is this all part of a larger movement? After all, the members do seem to be going somewhere. So it's not a lie and they're not killing each other senselessly. The tragedy is that they may be missing out on a better "life", or will they now have a better one? I'm sure Netflix would make a series out of it, but I think it's just interesting that the questions remain unanswered.

Sooooo.. What happened to the BODIES? Last scene 17:42 was sheets ending up flat with the wind starting to blow the sheets away nothing under them but grass. Did the magic Pink Lemonade disintegrate them all bodies/clothes and all? Or did they end up in DETROIT? The HORROR !! 😱

Conjecture: The group was right about their beliefs and the eclipse really was a gateway. Actually, the bodies were gone for nearly a full minute by the time you noticed it. Go back to @16:50 and you'll notice when she says "stay", the eclipse suddenly ends, and the camera pans down to show the bodies are gone. The tape she is listening to as she drives away foreshadows what would happen between the couple. "when they align, they open a door to another plane of existence". The group went to their new plane of existence and the couple went to theirs. When they are apart, the sun and moon are meaningless. But now, he has a chance at a real life away from the group he spent most of his life with, and she had a reason to stop trying to throw hers away which is why she joined the group.

If you only know her from She-Hulk you need to see her in Orphan Black. She flawlessly played over 12 different characters in that show and deserves WAY more recognition for it.

@HenningAust ... I've heard. I watch so much stuff but I will definitely check it out. I loved her as Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk despite some of the hatred toward the show. She's supposed to get a session 2!

@@jblue6820 Oh yeah, I like her as She-Hulk too. Not trying to trash it or anything. I'm just a little worried that Marvel will be all she will be known for, because I think her performance on Orphan Black is genuinely some of the greatest acting in any TV show I have ever seen. She even won a Best Lead Actress Emmy for it (although she desserved way more). Her range is insane!

I always wonder what the next step is in situations like this? It would likely be boring to watch, but their prints are all over the place. If they just left and went on to normal lives, they are involved with all these dead people and will have explaining to do.

I've watched this before. Nice Flashback Friday pick. Love Tatiana. But this was one of the first things that inspired me to not watch any new productions centered around a couple/will-they-won't-they couple unless, if a hetero couple, the man is shorter/woman is taller. Kinda petty, but I do not care. After over 15 years of watching pretty much every type of show, movie, video game cutscenes, etc. the world can offer, I just wanna focus on (and create) what stands out in ways often avoided or coincidentally norm in minor yet core ways. Same with looking for more "action woman befriends/protects little kid" stories, or "woman wears exosuit not based on somebody else's exosuit" stories, or "interracial couple without a Euro (white) person" stories (that one's so avoided, it's barely in commercials), etc.

I grew up watching shows, movies about tackling men who prey on kids, and watched them get physically harmed for it, even in the recent 'Let The Right One In'. LOVE it. But after watching 'The Night Hunter' (starring Henry Cavill, Ben Kingsley, Alexandra Daddario) go after lik 4 child-predators and they talked like women don't prey on kids, it made me start focusing more on stuff (and writing stuff) that does that with women who prey on kids.

@@braydonfisher9273 I also want to find more stuff in which a mom has a heated argument with her son (regardless of which is wrong or right), as I grew up watching such scenes between mom/daughter, dad/daughter, dad/son way more. Moms and sons having those interactions is just as common in reality yet fiction shows it so little, that the scene between Lois and her son, Jonathan in 'Superman & Lois' as well as the tension between Marc and his mother in 'Moon Knight' made me realize how avoided it has been.

@@braydonfisher9273 I also grew up watching stuff that is about or kinda randomly included men who harm or are willing to harm kids, even in animation (I'm aware of the Evil Queen and Snow White. So, I've been looking for productions that involve women doing so as well. Especially after learning of hundreds of real cases. I don't need statistics to effect my thoughts, but cases of women harming kids happen more weekly than with men around the world as women are allowed more access to kids more regularly, hence their abuse shows over 100,000 more than men's acts against kids. So, yeah I'm trying to find (and write) balance of the portrayals of such.
