this was absolutely a magnificent story, its been a while since i have been this impressed by a Dust upload. The story telling was excellent, the underlying themes were laid out well without being too obvious, the acting was genuine and i was caught up completely in what might happen next ... this was a grandslam homerun that was also hit out of the park

I'm 70 years old, been a radio operator, 1977-2021, G-G and G-A-G, in the RAAF, and I must say, this is GOOD, VERY good!. The accidental initial contact was everything that happens, it's perfect, it's happened to me many times over my career, this is VERY genuine, in every way!. Without going into way too much detail, the scriptwriters and actors have captured, portrayed, pretty much everything that might happen. For me, a retired Radio Operator, the single, most fundamentally important reason for being a Radio operator, is shown here. Communicate.

Would you say one of the original purposes of radio communication was for help? It's interesting that an SOS was so easily dismissed with such total disbelief. Was this a common prank?
@oasntet
@oasntet 8 месяцев назад
@@SUPER_WOLFMOON It still is. Jammers and pranksters can be found all over the bands, though the worst offenders that stick around long enough do, on occasion, get caught by the FCC and fined. It's rare that a prankster claims to be in distress, though.

As an expert then (or anybody else that has analog electronics expertise here), please inform us as to how likely is to replace a tube in a (western made) radio with a random one from a random module that was on a USSR spaceship and have work perfectly??? Also why would that change it's tuning and make it possible for the Russian to speak to him?

Crew size on Voskhad was normally 2-3, with the exception of Voskad 4 which was a 20-day single-man mission to study long-term weightlessness with artificial gravity, medical, military, and other experiments, it was canceled. Voskhod 1 and 2 were reportedly the only ones to be launched 3 thru 6 were all canceled. Voskod 1 was the first multiman spacecraft (3 crew). It's flight was 1 day 17 min. and was launched October 12, 1964. Voskhod 2 (2 crewmen) was the first manned EVA, March 18, 1965. Great short film!!!

That was probably the best story I've seen on DUST, very well done. Both actors really made me feel it. The way Hank goes from pride to deep sorrow as he's talking about his son was beautiful. The choice of song is definitely not lost on me. Blind Willie Johnson - Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground It's one of the songs on the Voyager golden records. He was blinded by his mother when he was very young. She threw lye in his eyes when he walked on his mother and father fighting about infidelity. He died penniless from pneumonia he caught sleeping in wet newspapers in the burned out remains of his home. And his music has left the solar system. We may fade from existing due to our own petty disputes, but he'll live on damned near forever out in the void. Wow.

It was all in his loss filled lonely head all along - a mental breakdown and then breakthrough to get over his loss, a story sculpted from some junk he found in the woods, in helping a make belive astronaut who was a good brave man - symbolically he found the stronger man in himself - quite literally a higher self, then after pouring out his heart - symbolically the cosmonaut disintegrated with his guilt after helping him see his own worth. There was so much to this story about life - loss - loneliness - stereotypes - empathy - perceptions of home - tribal psychology. Superb all round - great things can grow from dust clearly 🤘🏻🎩

Tears still coming. This is an example of a story that wouldn't work as well as a written short story, so much of it is told in visuals and awesome acting. At the beginning I was literally scolding the character Hank out loud, "what kind of ham radio guy are you who won't answer a distress call?" and I was actually glad when Lucky ran away. But by the end when he'd found it impossible to hide the basic goodness in himself, he wouldn't let let his "commie" friend Andrei give in to his fate, that's when I started losing it. That's some skillful storytelling, to take the viewer through such extremes: from contempt for the main character to empathy for him, xenophobia to finding common humanity, from a behavior I most detest in humans to one I love most. Ken Godmere sells "Hank" so well in both the sympathetic and unsympathetic phases. I see from IMDB that he's had a lot of TV work, I'd like to see him in a feature film

This is by far one of the best sci fi short films i have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. The acting, writing, directing, sound track, pace, everything was flawless. I cannot applaud this film enough! Well done, well done indeed.

Very good story! Congratulations to the actors, writers and director. There has been so many bad Sci Fi movies and stories lately in cinema, that this was refreshing for the simplicity but well developed way the story was told. Some of the shorts I’ve watched here at Dust really deserved to be developed into full movies.

Well done, one of the best in the entire DUST collection so far. Compelling story and character development, without having to rely on excessive CGI to make a memorable piece worth seeing again.

My UTMOST respect to Everyone involved in the production of Voskhod. There are Dust films that have moved me to tears and there are incredible engaging story lines and music, and set designs . Voshkod has it ALL. I am so impressed with everything. Its been a little while since a DUST short made me cry . Im still sniffling typing this. The old guy in the woods retelling of his own loss, and the complete opposite with Alexi telling the truth about his upcoming death and what hed like HIS son to do. Absolutely brilliant. I definitely want to see more from the Writers and production team on any new movies

Two Problems: 1 - A Mayday can be issued on any frequency the caller is able to access. 2 - Spacecraft are not required to have a amateur radio license ID. They are exempt. They can use an ID if they want to, but they aren't required to. Other than that, a good show.

When the art of story telling is done through a movie and done well, you're impressed with what almost feels like conflicting feelings. Some stories involve multiple characters or complex interactions. Others, like this story, involve simpler elements. But they all become grand when you get to observe how all the parts are blended together (right down to small details like when he's talking about the faulty hinge but found out he had lost contact during his speech) And that's the uniting element. And the conflict comes in because it's right there in front of you, evolving through it's life, and I'm trying to find a way of saying that more movies should be better. Not because of an ease of making them, but because you get to see such good examples of how they are done well, you want so much to believe it will translate into an avoidance of a lot of the junk that seems to be consciously made to be junk.

shivers all over. I cant exactly say why this was so amazing. Maybe because there was no explanation why the cosmonaut crashed twice (or maybe even more than twice? Who knows!) It brought a nice shroud of mystery that just stays there and they didnt explore it together more than just sharing a few alarmed and confused words. 5/5

I find it Hilarious that the Russian box he found is a Hewlett Packard 353A Impedance patch panel. It's not a control box for capsule re-entry. I used them in the Air Force as part of a collection of 3 instruments called a tri-pack. The other two instruments in the tri-pack are a HP 204C Audio Oscillator and a other was a HP 410C VTVM and we used them for radio equipment alignments.
@Mainbusfail

No sir, it is written that the box was a re-entry processor module. So, therefore it is that. The prop used to tell the story was an HP 204C Audio Oscillator. But, i find it hilarious yet tragic that you had to put your nut sack on our drum set.

This was superb, and... Damn you. DAMN YOU. I appreciate a subverted trope as much as the next fan, but I wanted SO MUCH for that cosmonaut to be hanging by his parachute from a tree with Lucky barking up at him. Perhaps that wouldn't have been as powerful as Sometimes Hope Isn't Enough, but oh my poor heart that felt so strongly for these two men connecting so tenuously and giving each other that hope. I wanted it to be okay. I wanted it to be okay. ...and I loved it anyway.

jacqueline schael : hello Jacqueline, thank you. But hearing me parroting another’s words (life) would be so inadequate. I will say that the U. S. Govt always ordered us to “save everyone”. “That Others May Live”. It is that order (words), and this motto that I prefer to remember and repeat. If it is important to you, you could go on the RU-vid. search “Last words” plane crash. Jacqueline you seem a very caring person, maybe don’t go looking for voices.
