Any advice on strengthening the Achilles or at least protecting it? My left Achilles is always killing me after jump rope and being on the balls of my feet for extended periods of time in boxing!

Tibialis raises and soleus seated calf raises 👍👍👍 those are going to be your go to for strengthening the muscles around your shins

And don’t do bounce reps. Far too many gym goers bounce out of the bottom on calf raises. Bouncing is awesome and even optimal for Achilles training, but it won’t strengthen the underlying tissues. Many athletes avoid training calves in general since Achilles strength and elasticity isn’t necessarily related to calf strength and hypertrophy. Recently had Achilles soreness for a month straight and nothing seemed to help until I reimplemented calf raises. Good luck.

So basically contrast training from squats to jumps after or hurdles with a side hurdle between each hurdle?
@tanthai3653
@tanthai3653 2 года назад
Summary: Break up movement patterns into parts, train them slow speed. Slow = smooth, smooth = fast. Train while movement pattern together at higher speed. cocontractions -> muscles just stabilise a joint when you move quickly. reflexes do this automatically preflexes -> train your body through repetitions to already be flexed correctly before you do the movement. Difference between knowing how to land already and landing perfectly from a jump vs not knowing how to land and hoping your reflexes figure it out. Give a cue. Let them do it. Make them do it without a cue. Bam, helped teach them cocontraction. Include deceleration work. Progressive overload is decelerating faster than before, and decelerating with more load. Kinda common sense but capped into categories for ease of application

@@GregorS2005 everything I’ve heard, cold water works just as well, you’ll just need longer exposure. Close to freezing temperatures with ice, you won’t need nearly as long. If you’re in a 50-60°F situation, going to need more time.
