Hey y’all!
Here’s a step by step guide to making your own magnesium carbonate from 2 simple and inexpensive ingredients. Don’t worry I did not bog you down with all of the chemistry in this tutorial, although I can if you’d like 😉. This is just an easy to follow tutorial for the gym chalk ASMR community.
Let me know if you try this and tag me if you do.
Enjoy!

This is how our chalk is created! Except on an industrial scale, but great video! Very cool that you took the time to create chalk.

I’ve done this a few months ago. I just didn’t have the patience to filter once I made the chemical reaction to magnesium carbonate 😂😂 Thank you for sharing😊 I’ve also read where manufacturers use a drying agent like silica when making the chalk. I also tried to use the powder forms of epsom salt and silica, but again I tried to skip the filter process, so it turned out rock hard. Maybe you can give it a shot and see if it works out better.

Wow. Your video is amazing in every sense. I'm the kind of person who loves to know the science behind everything, including ASMR stuff. So, I welcome every bit of info you can provide. 💕. Btw, what is rosin? I have a suggestion. Please gather all your scientific videos in a single playlist for easy access. I also have an unrelated question. How does a block of fresh gum chalk turn soft by putting it in, and covering it with, cornstarch powder or reform powder for a few days? What happens down there?
@raleighslimeryasmr
@raleighslimeryasmr Год назад
I don’t think I have any Science Sunday videos here on RU-vid besides this one to make a playlist with. 🤣 I usually do them all on IG but IG is terrible with being able to download long videos so I usually do them live but this one wasn’t possible to do live. Rosin is an additive that is very sticky like sap and it gives a better grip for weight lifters and rock climbers. Putting chalk in powder doesn’t soften it. You could put it in wet paste and make it wet but the chemical composition and texture of a block of chalk won’t change from putting it in powder. Magnesium carbonate on its own is very brittle and falls apart in block form so there are additives in it that chemically harden it. The bonds of those chemical reactions don’t break from it sitting in more dry magnesium carbonate.

@@raleighslimeryasmr Thank you for your response. Sadly, I'm not on IG, so I'm missing out your excellent content. 💕 As for the hard GC blocks, that's is exactly what's bugging me. I've read in comments that it works, yet I can't imagine how would dry compounds react with each other and alter their properties. For example, please watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Am045zJR3GY.html

Wow love it! How do I know that the baking soda is done baking essentially? If I wanted to make a larger batch instead of 1/4 cup at a time ?

There isn’t a way to know in just a home kitchen. I’d leave it in longer to be sure. You won’t “overcook it”

Whoaa!! This is awesome! 👏🏼👏🏼 hats off to your dedication for having collected the ppt over a year! You actually answered my doubt as to why can’t we directly use washing soda.. thank you. I would like to know how does baking BS convert it to WS. Where does the hydrogen go?

At the high temperature sodium bicarbonate undergoes a decomposition reaction and breaks down into sodium carbonate, water and carbon dioxide
