Thank you for answering why a dressing stone changes the abrasive characteristics of the wet stone. I would not have otherwise figured it out.

Thank you for your video. It is being used to train sharpeners using the Tormek by the Guild of Professional Sharpeners.

Thank you Jeff for all of your assistance over the years. If anyone is considering a TORMEK, Jeff is your guy. I bought mine over ten years ago at a woodworking show from Jeff, and couldn't be happier. I use it for everything except my Japanese chisels which I prefer a traditional sharpening

Good video, very helpful. They're not Walmart scissors though, they're Fiskars, good quality.

thanks a lot for saving me the time to look into the universal tool rest. i had no idea that it came with the scissor jig. just started using my t-8 a few days ago for the first time. had trouble setting the angle and holding the knife jigs steady. got frustrated because i had 20+ kitchen knives to sharpen, and most of the time spent was to adjust the angles. so i put all jigs aside and sharpened with just my hands straight on the wheels. the results were ok, but the knives didn't come out tormek sharp. i was looking for some kind of a knife rest which could be locked tightly after the angle adjustment, and then all similar knives could be placed on it to be sharpened for the same angle. another youtuber modified the scissor jig by attaching a piece of metal to the base, which i just discovered after watching your video, that it's the universal tool rest sold on amazon for $40. i will try to use it as a knife rest. thanks again.

The wedge angle on the Tormek SVX-150 is 6 degrees and not 10 degrees as Jeff stated at 1:34. I measured the wedge angle using a digital angle gauge. He's to be forgiven for this mistake since digital angle gauges weren't widely available 12 years ago as they are today. I bought the Tormek 2000 and the ultimate package which included the SVX-150 scissor jig from Jeff/SharpToolsUSA back in 2004.

Is there anything that would be specific to pinking shears or is the process exactly the same?

Jeff, Can the Tormek T7 be used to sharpen twist drill bits? If you are constantly using the grading stone going backwards and forwards from 250 to 1000 grit how long is the wheel going to last as well as how long is the grading strong going to last as well? I am in Victoria, Australia can you recommend a Tormek dealer?

You tube video "Why does the Tormek T7 and T4 cost so much?" Tormek rep addresses your question with a shrug, and says hardly anything is taking off the grinding wheel, not worth worrying about.

Will this stand up to the high quality and precision needed for professional salon shears?
@alpal2002

+Dean Larson I'd like to know that too because salon scissors are often have a concave profile not a flat.
@stevew3978
@stevew3978 4 года назад
Although the Tormek is capable of making any flat scissors scary sharp, the Tormek should not be used to sharpen CONVEX (not concave) profile salon scissors. The Tormek will destroy the convex profile of salon scissors. Salon scissors with a convex grind should only be sharpened on a flat rotating stone or disk with the scissors clamped on an articulating jig. The jig helps to rotate the scissors while grinding so that the convex profile is preserved.

Would not recommend doing salon scissors on the tormek I have done many pairs on the twice as sharp system from Wolff industries with diamond wheel. Saying that I have done fiskas and dressmaker scissors on the tormek Hope that helps Towers sharpening Services coventry Warwickshire uk

I notice, on the end of the blade, you raise your left hand, and drop your right hand, just a bit. Is that proper procedure> On the knives, you say to lift up on the handle, not "roll" it, as what would seem normal, in that case! I just ordered my Tormek, and don't want to screw something up!!!

You would try to keep the blade or knife jig parallel to the universal guide.. that's at least my technique, seems to work pretty well.

I don't see why not. Scissors do want a little "tooth" to their grind, but I think the Japanese stone should work well.
